Colin, regarding your story about Rush, I had a very similar situation in late 2019 where I felt like I was in a similar state after graduating college and not having a job yet, moved back in with my parents, and was just very depressed and desperately needed a companion. I’d been wanting my own dog for so long and so for Christmas that year my parents surprised me and we went out to a breeder and I got to pick out my golden retriever puppy. He’s 4 now like Rush and I love him more than anything. The bond between man and dog is primal.

3:02:00 The hopelessness is real even in smaller cases. I lived in a bottom floor apartment in Dublin City Centre where I had a small space outside dedicated to our apartment where i could have a table & chairs like a balcony. Passersby would throw trash into these sections. I took pride in this space for a time, cleaning it out whenever I could but I eventually gave up. To keep it clean meant picking up trash before I went to work, when I got home from work and before I went to bed every single day. Eventually the pride I had in that small space eroded away and I just stopped using that space. I think it’s the realization of effort + lack of community + time that just amounts to the mentality of = f*** it!

It was brought up in the episode that it might not be worth getting an electric car because a dirty power plant would be supplying the electricity needed to recharge it. However, if you equated the carbon emissions per mile to drive an EV vs a gas power car, the EV would still produce fewer CO2 per mile. Gas powered cars are more inefficient and dirty compared even to a coal powered plant.

I know wealthy people love their sterile suburban yards, but it’s an unsustainable ecosystem. Imagine the pollution when all the fertilizer in your neighborhood makes its way into water sources. Plant some native species and let them take over, your property will be more beautiful for it.

Good luck telling all that to your HOA.

This is why HOAs are a scourge
@RealMisterDoge7 ай бұрын
For anyone else who cares, I read some data today showing that about 40% of bug species in the U.S. are heading towards endangered levels, and having a living environment is part of fixing that, not pesticides and monocrop grass. Have you noticed how few bugs you get on your windshield compared to just 10-20 years ago? It’s going to be the biggest extinction event in millions of years. Bugs are part of the food web and we need them. And while European honeybee populations are going up because of our honey production, our actual native bee species are being displaced. Having an empty lawn with no plants for them to collect from is not helping.
@marcove37 ай бұрын
Car-dependent suburbs are terrible in so many ways. From the HOAs, to their environmental impact, to the financial burden that they inevitably become for cities, who have to provide services and eventually replace infrastructure. Not to also mention that they block new construction with excuses like the neighborhood's character and parking availability (in reality they just hate poor people but i digress). I am amazed how much they love the suburbs. Colin doesn't even know how to drive.
@marcove37 ай бұрын
@onehandwashestheother the suburbs produce a lot more carbon emissions per capita than cities because everyone drives everywhere. Usually very long distances.

Colin, dont turn in to Greg Miller who thinks KF can survive if he took a step back. It didn’t and it’s failing, and now he’s on all the content again to try to bring it back from the dead. If you take a step back from constellation, the content will suffer, because a majority of patrons are here for YOU! So yes; this all does hinge on you! You’re the draw for all of us. Without you, there would be no LSM. Remember that when you decide you want to take it easy…

Hey Dustin just wanted to let you know regarding EVs. Your gas combustion engine is horribly inefficient and a pollutant beyond generating energy using fossil fuels for your home. Buying an EV even with dirty energy is still WAAAAAY better than using a gas car.
@areallytallguy8 ай бұрын
Is it? When you have to pay 20k for a new battery so you just scrap the entire car? What about all the energy used to mine the lithium for the batteries? What about when your range is cut in half in the winter?
@PlayLaughLogan8 ай бұрын
@@areallytallguypeople with evs don't have to buy new batteries anywhere near as often as you people assert 😂 can we stop with this retarded rhetoric?
@ChicoDusty7 ай бұрын
Inefficient in emissions while in use but internal combustion engines a FAAAAAR more efficient when you look at time. How long would Dustin's 6 hour drive to NY be if he used an EV instead? Deviations to find charging stations and time it takes to charge. That 6hr drive just turned to ~8 hrs.

The “you can’t get away with it today” shit isn’t really relevant anymore. Most big comedy podcasts now say all sorts of “offensive” shit and they get Netflix deals. A movie like Dinner In America came out a few years ago and the lead character drops slurs that are played for laughs and he’s never really condemned for it. Sex comedies like No Hard Feelings and Anyone But You are coming out and getting successful. The culture is shifting away from the annoying overreactions of the 2010’s. I mean even Shane Gillis just hosted SNL.

It's not wrong to get the dog you want. Like it's not wrong to have your own child, instead of adopting one. Like it's not wrong to save your money, instead of donating it all. Not taking the most altruistic path, in favor of taking care of yourself, is completely fair.
@PlayLaughLogan7 ай бұрын
@@BustaBeware There's a difference between not taking the most altruistic path & actively supportive unethical practices like dog breeding. Colin even states he was waiting for a Boston rescue, but got impatient. Being impatient isn't a good excuse to not adopt. It's also not the same as with children at all lmao. It makes sense to want your own biological child, there's human nature in that. You can't birth a dog though. No matter what you have to get it from someone else & "adopt" it. Buying from a breeder is objectively worse than buying from a shelter.
