OUR NEW BECOMINGFILIPINO HOME IN CAGAYAN DE ORO

WE MOVED TO A NEW HOME IN THE PHILIPPINES AND LIFE HAS CHANGED FOR EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD RIGHT NOW.
My parents left March 7th, and since that time I have been just back living my life in Cagayan de Oro. This video is shot on March 21st, 2020... and with a new pandemic around the world and recently spreading here in the Philippines. Yes, life is changing. Bret and I decided to make our new home during this community quarantine at Viajero Outdoor Center. It is actually the place where my new #BecomingFilipino home will be in the future.
Okay, so we moved into a new home...
AND WE ALSO HAD A LOT OF LAUGHS TOGETHER ON THIS DAY!
I'll probably get a bit more emotional in some vlogs to come... for now... SMILE!!

Scrubbing the floor with the coconut husk is one of the Filipino Old practices which is being done very seldom in the present time. It looks hard though, but when you do it with the motivation of getting a good exercise then it’s fun. Old houses made with shiny wooden floor is always awesome to see. you need to apply floorwax first before scrabbing it with the coconut bunot...it will make the floor shine and keep the wood healthy..use either left or right foot depend if you get tired...also do it by every line if possible straight way..lengthwise..

For the bunot: You did not show the one where you have a bunot under each hand supporting the body in prone position, perhaps with elbows slightly bent to your comfort, and then you push self with feet, running as fast as you can, then reverse direction and repeat. If you want floor to shine like a mirror, remove all dirt with wet cloth or sack (lampaso), then apply floor wax (not too much), and afterwards do the scrubbing with the bunot or coconut husk. If too much floorwax is applied, floor could get dangerously slippery especially when wet. Happy husking!

I missed doing bunot in my grandparents ancestral home in Lamitan,Basilan when were having our summer vacation. Its also a good workout too...put floorwax or Scrub some used candle on the bunot to make the floor shiny.

I like your new place, Kulas! Actually, I prefer where you're at right now than the one downstairs. It looks more light, airy, and spacious. It's great that Bret and Butter moved with you. You and Bret make wonderful and fun housemates and productive colleagues. Your personalities just complement and mesh well with each other. It's nice to see you both acclimate so well to our Filipino culture. And scrubbing the floor with the "bunot" takes the cake! I was smiling so wide. Watching you, guys, have brought back lots of fond childhood memories, both scrubbing our family house floor and at school, where after-school classroom clean-up was part of our elementary curriculum. Just a couple of advice, though: you need to sweep (broom) and wax the floor--first--before you bunot the floor (sahig). Use either floor or candle wax. Then after scrubbing, you polish the floor with a rag or mop. Fresh banana leaves would do, too. Lastly, it's important that you scrub with--not against--the grain of the wood floor slats. Otherwise, you'll be making all sorts of unsightly marks and scratches--I'm sure, to your landlord's displeasure. Enjoy your quarantine at your new place! Take care and be safe, please.

We usually wipe the floor first with dump mop then ket it dry and put floor wax after 5 mins we will used that bunot, the floor will be shiny clean and look new.

Hey guys, with your bunot, you should have a starting point like from the left corner down to the right corner and follow the grain of the wood, then when you are done and already at the other end, start another layer down from your right end all the way again to the left end and then you repeat it all over again on the next layer below until you cover all the floors. Then, you sweep the whole floor to pick up the bits and pieces of husk then, grab a clean dry rag and step on it and do the same thing over like how you did the bunot to finish the job and for your floor to shine and end up with a smooth floor. You don't want to bunot across the grain because it's harder that way. Also, it will show after you are done, looking like a dirty windshield after it's wiped. LOL. Anyways, enjoy and it's definitely a good exercise. Happy quarantining!

Yeah! it brings back my old memories, I used to do that floor scrubing or lampasu but If you want to make your floor shine put some floor wax dry it up for half an hour then scrub the floor.

So nice to see this “ bunot”.When I was in elementary, which was ages ago....the assigned boy cleaners would make our classroom floor shiny by using the bunot while the girl cleaners would either mop or sweep the floor. There was great satisfaction seeing our classroom shiny and clean. It’s also a good form of exercise on our part.(watching from the US)

Awe! I miss doing this one! Did u guys know that during old times, pupils/student from public schools has a "floor wax day" every friday at the end of our afternoon lessons. Its a very fun experience for us, like how we used the play the floor waxes, doing the "choo-choo" where girls sits on the top of the bunot and boys pulls us together as we run through the classroom picking up passengers( other classmates)
