I LOVE seeing older houses that would have been SO trendy when they were first done (or last renovation!) like this house was the COOLEST in the … 60s?

@@New_Wave_Nancy I think its maybe 80s. That classic combo of gold and dusty pink/turqoise screams 80s to me. But the"cottage core" door seems more 60s/70s. I am wildy guessing by childhood memorys (late 80s/early 90s) and the house my grandparents own (mix early 2000s and 60s/70s).

The mauve bathroom fixtures and gold metal wall accents bring me back to the 80’s. Just do things little by little over the years so you don't blow your budget :)

Looks like the previous design was mostly a mixture of late 80s to 90s design scheme with the kitchen and bath being a mild art deco / Hollywood regency revival and the attic carpet the geometric print that's so popular from the late 80s to 90s. All of these trends have made a comeback in the past 10 years or so, just in a more bubbly and pastel color scheme and a focus on different geometric shapes. I guess my point is that a lot of what we consider "outdated" can be traced back to a certain art and fashion style, which are all cyclical. If pastel deco is your thing the kitchen would look cute with just a simple color update and the right accessories. If it's not your style, then they will still go. But it's always nice to consider what original style these "old things" are trying to go for to expand your design ideas. Working with an existing style is always much cheaper and less work :)

Home ownership is so fun (and terrible at the same time) Just keep money saved in a special spot for unfortunate things. The amount I've spent doing fun things with my house I've spent doing the not so fun things (replacing hot water tank, AC/Furnace, windows, water meter reader) Best advice really is look for a good overall design. I think a lot of people first time just kind of randomly gather things they love but then it feels mixmatched (if that's what you want) but I think most the time people want to keep it fluid through the house. We kind of did themes per areas of the house. The bedroom downstairs is beachy, with a palm tree, a VW Beetle bus tapestry. My computer room is forest themed. I have a lot of furniture I built myself in here including a live edge coffee table, and a tapestry of some mountains. The living room is desert. I've got a lot of succulents, cactus, the rugs and stuff kind of fit into it. Don't stress. There's always gonna be stuff you wanna do.
