Nice job. In the pop corn you should grow them in the dark all the way to harvest so they stay yellowish and sweet. If they turn green because of the light they start turning bitter. Otherwise great job. Keep going.

I used a thinner paver I bought at Lowe’s. It’s still heavy enough but not back breaking. Might want to consider this in the long run. I’m a newbie at growing micro greens too and enjoying your content.

If you get a couple of those seasons jars. The small thin ones with at least for holes for shaking the herbs. That is great for spreading the seeds alot better and more even. It works great for me .

So, I am new here, and I don't know your channel, so I don't know your history, or level of capability in growing. Forgive me if I sound like I am talking to you like you don't know anything, I don't mean it in poor faith. OK, so a few things. The germination period, after the cotyledons are present you can stop top watering, just check the roots to make sure their strong. If they have made their way out of the bottom then bottom water. That's the main benefit of having a 2 tray system. This prevents bacteria from forming as easily on the bottom of the stems next to the coir. When you weight the trays you can stack multiple trays then place the weight on top. The only possible issue with that is when the microgreens grow they will lift the weight, and the trays above them. So make sure you check your trays every day, and you can use less weight than that if you want. Some folks use a 5lbs paving stone, including me. It won't hurt your product to go a little lighter. Next, when you're placing the coir into the trays, you can leave it wet, but press it dry before putting it in, also try not to cross contaminate the coir. This may be more of a pet peave, but the medium should remain as neutral as possible. This can also prevent bacteria or pathogens from spreading from your obviously very used work gloves to the medium. It's just better sanitization of the workplace. Next, if you're going to add any nutrients it may be better to add that to the bottom water after rooting. The reason for that is again being a sanitary method. Some things I notice in the video that an inspector might kind of scoff at, ie tell you to change before you continue to sell that product is that you need a better method for marking your product. Sticky notes won't cut it when that inspector wants to see the production steps. Next, for all that holy, keep a record. That means, use some type of charting method for when you plant, when you switch watering methods, how long you grow, germinate, etc. That's going to help you when you contract, so you always know when to plant for harvest. You also HAVE to have a clear full record of your sanitization process. Something an inspector can look at, and visibly see who cleaned what, when, with initials or some kind of mark. Also, you should have a few big books of processes. If gardening or growing outdoors was your thing before, think of indoor growing, particularly microgreens as though it's the lab version of that. Everything needs to remain clean, separate, have specific spacing for the processes, like cleaning is done away from the growing, seeding, harvesting and production. And again, someone needs to sign off that they did the correct process as labeled in the big book of processes. If someone get's sick, and no one signed, and there was no process you can forget a paycheck. There's thousands of hours of training, information, suggestions, and just as many support groups for this type of business. I wish you luck. This business is incredibly anal.

@@lathapauline1063 I've been doing it for a while, and I have been learning how to do it for longer. I have a face radio and a voice for print, so nope, no videos. Just pointing out information. There's a lot more to having a microgreens business.

Just seen your videos for the first time today I really enjoy this one. Could you please tell me the name of the pee and the popcorn one that you planted separate from the other seeds? And where do you get them from. I have a feeling I would enjoy these much better than I would lettuces.

Thanks for watching! I believe the peas are the Dun Pea seeds. The popcorn came from a local farm. not sure of the name of that one. We order all of our seeds from True Leaf Market. They have been great to work with. We'll be publishing a Microgreens business update video here in a few weeks.

Nice ❤ for the bottom-watering stage, how critical is it for the trays to be level? It doesn’t take much to displace water to one end, so does the hydration take care of itself once it starts coming through the roots, or would one end get more drink than the other (if there was a slope)? Sorry for the newbie question 😅

May i ask what you typically charge a restaurant per 1020 tray of microgreens?
@themintoshow
@themintoshow 2 ай бұрын
We actually don’t sell to any restaurants. No one has asked us nor have we reached out to any local restaurants. Other vendors told us not to bother with them. Too many growers have been burned by them not paying.

Well so far so good! I think we made a profit on our first year. We're still growing and selling weekly to our hard core costumers. We'll have to look at the numbers in January and do a video. I think the hardest part was educating the public on what Microgreens are. Thanks for asking!
