Our new Wickes Kitchen almost !

Just thought we would share our experience of buying a Wickes kitchen.
Any helpful thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The whole kitchen fitting industry is just full of shark infested waters I’m afraid. Some of the prices we were quoted were crazy. The most ridiculous were Magnet, who originally quoted £60k, but as a special discount would do it for £43k, what planet are they on ? I can only suggest you and find a kitchen supplier by recommendation from a friend or family member. I suspect a smaller ‘family run’ business may be a bit more expensive than the likes of the big chain, but will at least give a shit about their customers and reputation. In Wickes there is simply a huge disconnect between the customer and the company. You cannot find anyone who has the authority or gives a shit to sort out problems. When we first went back to the original sales rep in the store whom we dealt with, his response was ‘ I just sell them, it’s nothing to do with me’. Best of luck on your new kitchen journey.

I hope you got sorted, we are 2 years on with wickes just waiting for the tiler to come and hopefully remedy his mess up.. I've got some fresh carrots for his horse :) I love their slogan lets do it right lol

Apart from a few niggles, after 9 months Wickes eventually came and sorted us out, which I understand from the fitter was prompted by this video. We have rejected the Wickes have offer of a derisory few hundred pounds compensation for all the delay and trauma of leaving us without a kitchen for 9 months. We have made a more realistic counter offer, which Wickes have rejected. Very much looking forward to going to court, to test their ‘let’s do it right’ policy !

I had a design meeting today....lovely lady but now I'm really scared...I don't think I dare go with them despite some good reviews as well. Thanks for sharing because honestly my mental health wouldn't be up to the experience you had. Thanks.

In the industry we call the likes of b&q, wickes, wren “sheds” so the big sheds are sales led, when a customer comes in they will do a design then charge you £X amount for the installer to come and survey your kitchen…after they give you the install cost and you agree the job is “technically” that installers. I have fitted many different manufactures kitchen over the years and the one piece of advice I’d give is “ask the fitter for work references” after my latest install I ask the customer if it’s ok for me to use there details as reference 90% will say yes…if your fitter can’t show you start to finish pictures on there phone or provide a reference ask for another installer to visit.

I bought my kitchen from Wren and it is so cheap! The drawers look secondhand, the doors on the units are chip board that chips easily. It is the cheapest looking kitchen I have ever seen.Wren are refusing to give me my money back. I will complain to consumer watchdog. I went to Wickes and the same units were much better quality. You had problems with the fitter who was bad but the units look fine to me.

Sorry to hear about your experience Andrew. May I ask if this is Tiverton in Sage colour? Also what is your experience in regards to the quality of the kitchen? That’s if in case it’s now installed by now?

Hi there, did you actually resolve this in any way. I’m having a nightmare with Wickes. Just contemplating whether worthwhile taking legal action or do I just treat it like being a victim of an abusive relationship?

A couple of weeks after I posted the video, Wickes showed up for one day to finish off. Still had a few snags which we managed to sort ourselves. The overflowing Wickes skip that had been sat our drive for 9, months was eventually collected first week of November.

Thank you for your comment Emil. Being left without an operational kitchen for months on end was very stressful. No matter who we emailed, no one seemed to have the authority to help. In July 2021, we sent 7 separate letters (recorded delivery) with photographs to every single Director at Wickes Head-Office. The post office confirmed all were signed for and received, yet to date we have not received a single reply. Mistakes can and do happen, but it’s how they are dealt with is a measure of a good company or not.
