Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort to making your ‘Loop’ videos - my husband and I plan to do the loop in a couple of years and just bought our boat. We are planning to ‘get used’ to it over the next couple of summers in Lake Ontario and the Trent/Rideau system and then we plan to head out on our adventure. You have given us a lot of valuable information and it has been great to watch your episodes. Thanks again!

Happy Loopiversary to you both! I really enjoy your videos and am glad you and Y Not survived Irma. A close friend of mine lives in Homestead and also evacuated during Irma. So scary! I am looking forward to seeing the east coast and the rest of the loop. You guys do a great job on documenting your adventures. I’m starting to do that with our boat too, although our adventures last 1-2 weeks at a time not several years. Keep up the great work and enjoy your travels. 🐬💕

Great to see your adventures turning out so well! I’m still working on convincing my other half that we need a live-aboard to alternate with our RV... Happy to see your typical expenses are inline (if not cheaper) than RVing. Will wait to see how it lines up once you can factor in maintenance. Happy Travels!
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 6 жыл бұрын
Oh.. the maintenance costs definitely are a larger budget item - most experienced boaters tend to warn to factor in 10% per year of your purchase price - which is what we're keeping available. Thankfully however, the daily living costs is something we have some control over with choosing our pace. Thanks for coming along for the ride! :)

I enjoyed your video. I am now a brand new sub, so I will just binge watch you two until I get all caught up. My wife and I RV on an anytime we want to basis, and we are also thinking about taking the plunge, and buying a seaworthy boat like you did, and doing the loop at a snails pace. (We also have no major boating experience). Thank you for making this video.

Congrats you guys! What a crazy year! Do your own loop. Thanks for the update and running the numbers for us. My wife and I spent last winter van camping instead of sailong to give hurricane damaged areas time to recover. Looking forward to being back on the water. Like you, however, we seem to spend about the same on the water as on the land. Maybe it's just because that's out budget.

Hi you guys, i,ve logged 40 years of boating in the pacific nw. all the way north to the of BC Canada. Up and down the Columbia river,4 seasons of the year. Day and nite. The last boat was a Island Gyspy 36',twin 120 lamins. 3.5 gals per hr at 3200 rpms. 8 knots. Yes we go slow. But stable. Been up river also to Lewston/Clarkston WA to the Snake river. Point is... I would like to do the inner coastal rout someday. Fair seas to you.

If possible. Get a 1 gallon fuel can and run the generator until fuel is exhausted. This experiment should give you a closer idea of it’s consumption. Sometimes the manufacturer will post this in their specifications. Have a safe trip.

Take your time, don’t allow anyone to rush you! When you can take your time and have no one else to answer to, or report to any office, or any boss, why rush? Those that want faster, get out there and do it yourself, in other words, when stuck in traffic and honking the horn, at traffic that’s not moving, I will gladly tell you to drive your own car, so let them man their own ship!

good report guys. I agree with your go slow pace. I just took 4 months to sail through the Abacos, a trip many do in a week. I'm another who does both RVing & boating (sailing) and the only surprise to me was your overnight docking costs being so low. It sounds like that's due to taking advantage of monthly marina rates, since you didn't save much anchoring out this year. On a nightly rate your boat would cost $100 or more in a marina. I anchor out 50% and stay in marinas 50%. I take advantage of weekly rates, but rarely stay in one spot long enough to use monthly rates except storage at my home marina during summer/hurricane off season, when I'm out west in the RV. My 36 ft boat usually costs $50-$80 on a nightly marina rate. In the Bahamas that went way up, since they charge extra for water & electric on top of the nightly rate.
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed... we're optimizing monthly rates in marinas combined with anchoring out while in transit between them. We've done a few nightlies and weeklies - but we really enjoy being in cool cities for a month or more.

You guys would love electronic engines. The amount of data you can pull from them is invaluable. The Cummins QSBs in our Meridian were a huge selling point for us.

Next time around I'd actually love hybrid electric propulsion - but that's still rare and cost prohibitive. But so geeky cool!
@cruisingoptions
@cruisingoptions 6 жыл бұрын
I got to spend a little time on a Greenline last year. It is a very interesting design. The battery propulsion could be handy for cruising in an area like FL where you get plenty of sun an often only move the boat a few miles here an there. Not so much if you want to make larger passages without running the main. It's hard to argue with BTUs/pound/dollar of sub-$3/gallon diesel.

Crazy how close the costs are between the RV and the boat! I figured the boat would be double the RV costs! Have fun. Check out Fairport, NY in the summertime on the Erie canal.
@Technomadia
@Technomadia 6 жыл бұрын
If we were doing the Loop in a year - the costs would easily be 3-5 times a year of our normal RVing style :) The thing we love about a perpetual nomadic lifestyle, is you have a lot of control over your spend rate (at least in terms of lodging & fuel).
@hotrodhog2170
@hotrodhog2170 6 жыл бұрын
Yup, You guys are doing it the right way I think. Slow and easy so you can take in the sights and smell the roses. Fairport is a cool little town. It got it's name from all the travelers along the Erie canal because the people were nice and it was considered a Fair Port by all that visited!

Technomadia That’s definitely impressive fuel economy for such a large boat. I’ve been contemplating a 4788 for a while as my early retirement home. In fact I’m pretty sure I saw Y-Knot listed on Yachting World a couple of years back and I’m feeling a little envious. You two make the live aboard life look really appealing. Thanks for the reply and happy sailing!
