BROCKWAY MOUNTAIN DRIVE was completed in the 1940’s by my husbands grandfather. He employed men during the depression using the CCC (civilian conservative coop) program. Helped men get back to work using newly learned trades. Grandpa used donkeys & dynamite to level out the road. Grandpa used his masonry skills learned in Germany to erect the stone guard rails leading up to the mountain top. Now that we’re grandparents, watching you explore the UP has us thinking we need to take our grandsons up there and explore family history. Grandma S (hubby’s grandma) made pasties. She & grandpa S. ran a boarding house in Calumet…copper country. She did laundry, bedding & fed eight to ten men at a time (plus her own four children). I have her pastie recipe. I tend to make them in the fall. They’re a family favorite. You explored a lot of Michigan’s upper but you missed Big Bay. It was a logging town owned by Henry Ford. His factory on Lake Independence is still there. A family bought it and built their home inside. There are many beautiful hiking trails up there. The 1950’s movie “Anatomy of a Murder” was filmed in Big Bay. The murder actually took place at the Lumber Jack Tavern. Our friend Jack B. Owns it now. He has loads of stories about the area.. he also has load of beer and other adult beverages. You can camp at Perkins County Park, which is practically across the street from the Lumber Jack. No need to drive drunk, but staggering could still get you in trouble, so drink responsibly. Thanks for the cool memories of the UP. Looking forward to more videos from the two of you.

When Eric mentioned that the Mackinaw Bridge takes 7 years to paint and then they start doing it again, reminds me of a saying here in the UK. There is a bridge in Scotland called the Forth Bridge, which had staff who until recently were constantly painting it. So in everyday life if something seems to be a never-ending task its commonly referred to as being 'like painting the forth bridge'

I’m from Michigan and I love it! Michigan is a hidden gem and I try not to brag too much about the lakes everywhere and the sheer beauty of it all not to mention swimming, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing, the beautiful colors in the Fall, the fresh air especially the smell of pine and fireplaces and bonfires! ♥️ Enjoy 😉 p.s. I don’t know if you’ve noticed how clean it is the further North you go. Michigan is very proud of the North and it’s mostly Government Forest and the DNR does not have patience with folks that try to trash it!!

Fun fact- those who live in the UP are known as Yoopers and the pasty is such an integral part of Michigan culture, that Calumet (one of the towns you drove through on your way to Copper Harbor) has an annual festival devoted to it. You can find pasties at grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, and even little shops dedicated to just making pasty. It's the ultimate comfort food in my opinion. My late grandmother taught me how to make them and now I make them for my own family. And when I do, my kids join in just like I did when I helped Grandma and I'm instantly transported back to those days when I was the one standing on the chair so I could reach the table to roll out the dough. Also, I can attest that the shape of a pasty largely depends on the maker. Mine are nowhere near as dome-like as the ones you bought. I love when Michigan and the UP specifically are showcased in videos like this because the UP is such an incredible place that has so much area that is completely untouched yet. And I can tell you that if you grow up on the shores of the Great Lakes, it calls to you for the rest of your life. I live in another Upper Midwestern state now and I'm a few hours drive from Lake Superior's shoreline and a solid 9 hours from my old hometown. But at least once a year, I HAVE to go stand at the water's edge and just breathe. I can't explain it other than it feels like I'm recharging my batteries. I am so glad you are enjoying your time there because is such an incredible place. (PS. I hope you stopped at the Snow Meter just outside of Mohawk on your way to Copper Harbor. It's pretty impressive to see just how much snow the UP can get in a winter. It's one of the few things I DON'T miss about living there.)

This video was first rate you guys! 😯👌👏 You've come SO far over the years with your production value! I'm not just talking about better quality cameras. I mean in general. Everything from the way you interact with your audience to the sound and editing approaches. It's all so polished now but yet it still feels raw and real! Some people lose the magic when they polish a channel up but you haven't. Anyway.... Those drone shots were incredible! 😍 And I loved that you put the names of where you were! I often use your channel as inspo for future trips (I am too unwell to travel these days but just in case I ever recover). So it's super helpful to know where all the cool spots are so I don't have to figure it out myself. And I mean, come on..... you had me at the puppies ☺😉

Because it tastes the same coming p as it did going down." My wife did not appreciate the humor...

I was born and raised in the UP. Thank you so much for highlighting the area. I feel like the UP doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves. Side note, it’s hugely debated if pasties should be eaten with gravy or ketchup. We took the trail to the point out of Copper Harbor in 2018. We took a wrong turn and ended up on an ATV trail with an FJ Cruiser pulling a Casita. It was quite knarly but after a few hours found our way out of the woods. The FJ never skipped a beat and 4 wheeled the Casita with no problem. My wife and I were born and raised around Detroit, however we’ve lived most of our lives outside of Michigan. Michigan has many gorgeous pull offs strategically placed along many of the highways that you can park for the night. Free. Sort of like rest areas.

One tip I can recommend is to make sure that you have paid the extra $12 for the park pass on your MI license plate. So many State Parks up there to enjoy for just the $12 annual fee. You really should have explored the Lower Falls, way more fun and entertaining than the Upper. Ask any Yooper. Also there are more than 100 waterfalls to explore. Next time check out Grand Marais area too.

Native Michigander.. I am from South West Michigan but have spent every summer heading up north for all the wonders, there is much along the lakeshore before you even get to the UP but the UP is the absolute gem in the crown of our state especially in fall. Hope you can come back again soon!

I’m originally from Detroit. My family went across the Mackinaw bridge when I was a kid in the 60s. My dad was a big band musician. He played two summers at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. My brother and I went to visit him one of those summers when my bro got his license. Our ferry almost hit a freighter in the fog. It might have been the Edmund Fitzgerald, for it was still afloat at the time. If our ferry would’ve hit it and both ships sunk, that would have rewritten history. Back to the Future!

Now THAT was some beautiful UP scenes. I'd be checking out land prices there for sure. I'll bet winters are beautifully freezing. LOL. I have to say the puppy cuddles were one of my favorite times. I was right there with you enjoying the pup cuddles too. There's just something about puppies that touches my heart. Your F250 is surely holding its own. This video was so complete with food, camping, travels, and cuddles. Thanks.

If you ever go back, make sure to stay at Gerometta's Resort! It's right down the road from Kitch-iti-kipi and the resort is on Indian Lake. You can even rent kayaks and canoes and go through the little river and get an up close view of the springs and the raft!!

A Yooper here! You all hit several great spots! There is so much to see and do across the whole U.P.! If you’re looking for off road campsites get yourself a forestry map however we’ve used the Ioverlander app to locate off road or secluded sites! Lake Superior was formed by a volcano. One reason the water is so crystal clear is because of the temperature plus unlike the 4 other Great Lakes, she doesn’t have pollution pumping into her! The U.P. is an all year playground with plenty of activities and adventure for those that seek it! Pasties with brown gravy, yummy but no to the ketchup! Great trip!

I lived in Michigan all my life and recently moved out of state. This video was very nostalgic to me. Michigan is very pretty and a lot of folks don't know enough about it. It is so much to do there. With the addition of all season you can surf, drive the sand dunes, go fishing, ice fishing, camping, ice skating and skiing all in one state. Summer are super hot which most people don't even believe. Oh with the number of lakes we have, we also have thousands of islands too.

I wholeheartedly agree with my fellow Michiganders that we have a wonderful State. Pasties are one of my favorite dishes, we even make them here at home. If you really want to have some fun though, ask Pasty eaters what's the best way to eat them; with gravy (beef or chicken), with Ketchup or just some butter, salt and pepper. Then watch the feathers fly... Lord I love my State....
