George couldn't even improve on new softs. You know how bad the changing wind conditions have to be at a race track for a driver to not improve on new softs at the end of the last quali session? Pretty damn bad lol. The fact that George got P1 is insanely huge for the team. They actually have a car that's genuinely quick now. Big BIG win for Mercedes so far. So long George finishes in the top 3 its a huge move in the right direction for the Silver Arrows.

the F1 official timing registers more then 3 zeros behind the period. the guy responsible for it, knows who really was nr 1 based on ten thousands of a second. but they only cut it officially to 1 thousands of a second, and then the regulation that the first one who set the time, is pole.

The fact that he absolutely NEEDS to have a few above average performances is exactly the sort of adrenaline rush that creates a sense of desperation that results in unforced errors. I genuinely hope he does well, it’s been a minute and he’s a likable guy who is entertaining off the grid, but I am experienced enough to see the signs of an over-eager driver who is not as sharp as he once was creating his own chaos. Let’s see how this ages - but I did give it a just better than 50-50 odds in the first ten laps, in a race where rain is expected, tensions are high, and the driver market is in flux - meaning that I have a fair chance of covering the spread. 😉 Cheers.

To me Russell’s biggest issue isn’t even tire management, but more so his mental focus when in an on track battle. Twice in the past calendar year he’s crashed on the last lap trying to overtake someone, & his wheel to wheel action has earned him the “Osama Bin Russell” nickname, (whether it’s fair or not).

Hulkenburg was a surprise because of wing issues. Haas and him both reported that they had swapped the back wing and still none of them were working so he didn't have the pace: “I think we went out a bit late, we changed the rear wing going into qualifying because I haven’t been happy with the car all weekend and I had a problem with the rear wing where it wasn’t performing as it should, so we decided to change it before qualifying. That meant our entire run plan got out of sequence a bit, so we were on the back foot with timings, and it got busy and hectic. Tsunoda and Danny scoring P8 and P5 respectively MUST be shouted about from the rooftops. Not only is it yet another solid Q3 performance from Yuki who's now making it a habit of cracking the top 10 in a car that belongs in P13 or something, but Danny's joined him in there and actually outqualified him! This is why they're my favourite driver lineup right now - it's just so bloody exciting to see them BOTH do well. Big ups - Russell, of course. Both RBs. Albon putting it in the top 10.
