One of our rescue dogs, Suby, was sadly diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 9 on March 13, 2024. We have created a "Channel Membership" and "Buymeacoffee" where all the donation received will go directly toward her treatment. Thank you so much for your help and support!
Buymeacoffee: www.buymeacoff...
You can request with your donation, the amount is up to you, but please be mindful that videos with music are sometimes hard to monetize so perhaps a little more with your donation to offset the lack of ads revenue would be appreciated. Also, please suggest something that make sense for our channel (Germany or a neighboring country, or something Europe related that include Germany). We don't want to frustrate our subscribers. If a video is blocked or we simply don't want to do it for wtv reason we will ask you for another video link.
Thank you! :)

You have to have in mind that Canada has half of the population Germany has but is nearly 30 times larger. Of course there is more space in Canada.

2:00 It is the courtyard of Bamberg cathedral - the left built directly adjacent to the cathedral is the cloister, the massive building right of the cathedral is the residence of the prince-bishop of Bamberg. 6:00 Quedlinburg became the Easter residence (Osterpfalz, Easter palace) of the first German kings - in medieval times the German kings were traveling kings, residing each season in another Imperial residence, which were called "Pfalz" (Palatinate) after the Roman Palatine hill, where the old Roman emperors had built their palaces (which word also refers to the Palatine). Each "Pfalz" was managed by a Count Palatinate, of which the Count Palatinate of the Rhine became the most powerful, also gaining the office of the Elector of the Rhine, one of the princes entitled to vote in the king's election. 7:00 Lake Constance is only the English name of the lake, referring to the city of Konstanz (or Constance), vis-a-vis from Meersburg, founded by the Romans as Castra Constantia, replacing a Celtic oppidum destroyed during the Roman conquest and named after Emperor Constantius I or Constantius II. The Romans however called the Lake Lacus Brigantinus after the Celtic tribe of the Brigantii and their oppidum Brigantium at the eastern end of the Lake (now the Austrian city of Bregenz); the Romans defeated the Brigantii in a naval battle on the lake and then conquered Brigantium. In German the Lake is known as Bodensee after the town and castle of Bodan near the western end of the lake; Bodan was in early medieval times one of the Imperial residences (a "Pfalz" or Palatinate). 9:10 In medieval times towns recognized as cities got the privilege to fortify themselves. And while in the countryside feudal lords owned not only the land, but could also force the peasants to work for them, cities were more or less republics without feudal lords (but some patricians). So there was a saying "Stadtluft macht frei" - "city air makes you free", and all craftsmen applied for living within city walls. But often place within the walls was scarce, and extending the walls was sometimes not only expensive, but also difficult, because some of the walls marked the border of city legislature, with some prince or e.g. Imperial Abbey being the direct neighbor, allowing expansion only in some directions. So small, but tall houses were built, sharing walls with one another and the upper floors sometimes overhanging the street. 11:00 The red building is now the Hotel Kaiserworth. It was built as seat of the merchants' guild in 1494. The most famous figure at the facade is the "Dukatenscheißer" (ducats shitting). 16:25 Erfurt's merchants' bridge is actually a bridge on which small houses with shops were built.

Before modern transportation technologies, rivers were basically the ancient highways. They were essential to transport goods and people from one place to another, which is why most ancient and mediavel cities sprung up at or near navigable rivers.

Many old towns are approx 30 km away from each other. This is (at least in some of those cases) because ships were towed up the stream from the riverbanks ("treideln") and this about is the distance they could cover in a day.

In the past, it was not possible to make large panes of glass. This is where the bars in the windows of old buildings come from. It is like a leaded glass window, only the bars were not made of lead, but of wood.

Greetings from Goslar, the town at minute 10. I lived for many years in the red house in the middle of the picture at 11:06min. The apartment was actually quite large at 120 square meters, but you could hear everything from your neighbors through the beamed ceilings ;). At around 150 years old, it's quite young by local standards in the center.

The green roofs are made of copper. They are red/brownish when they are new but get this beautiful green patina after some time.

Cute, how amazed you are about Bamberg. I actually did my Bachelor and Master studies there. It's a lovely town to live in, but after my 6 years of University, i left for a job and now live in a totally different, but also beautiful city somewhere else in Germany =)

Hy! Funny, when the white building (minute 4) was built, LEGO was not invented yet. The video cames to an end, but there is much more to explore, I think!...😊

Oh no! Okay, I gave your video a thumbs up before I knew you were talking about those "bird's eye view" videos. Can you imagine how much I dislike them? You don't even get a notion of what these buildings are really like only watching from above; you'll have to explore towns by walking them. And can you imagine how it felt when I first touched a real castle wall, maybe 700 years old or so, with my own hands? Trust me, these guys knew how to build a fortress!

No, it's not Francophone (2:22), it's the Franconia region (Franken in German). The name has nothing to do with French, see the Germanic Franks though.

Unfortunately the current situation in Germany looks bad, with high, very high crime rates. The quality of life in Germany has never been so bad! that's the truth.
