I believe the opening may be a theremin. Also, I think the lyric is actually "absinthe", not "absent". He refers earlier to his "green muse"

Yes, the "Spirit" in this case is alcohol, as in "spirits."

It is "Spirit, Absinthe." Absinthe is also referred to with "Anti-Saint Wormwood catapulting your mind" and "Your green muse, the apparatus for soul mobility, a gateway to secrecy" in the lyrics.

Spirit is one of my personal favorite songs and it was such a great opening song to Meliora too. This would fit in a Scooby-Doo episode for sure lol. It's one of their more underrated songs and it wasn't played that often live. I was lucky to hear it on stage. And as some of the commenters have pointed out, they are actually talking about the drink absinthe, which is what the lyrics were talking about. And that last bit was a quote from author Edgar Allan Poe.

The drums on this song is nothing else but spectacular 😍. Tobias actually wrote the spooky intro first. That was the spark to this song. If you listen carefully you hear that he pronounce abcent as absinthe. The lyric also mention wormwood. So you could as many Ghost songs interpret it in many ways.

Giving the similarity between Absent and Absinthe, and the reference to wormwood, I like to think of Spirit as a song about getting drunk, and the next one, Pinnaccle, as a song about being hungover :))

That elongated ‘spirit’ at the end of the song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. His voice is like nectar for my brain, I love it.

Been going through all your Ghost reactions and it's a blast. I can't even say why I enjoy watching reactions. But I do. And I love Ghost, so there's that. My favorite Ghost song at the moment might actually be "If you have Ghosts". Which feels funny since it's a cover. Totally worth checking out.

This song is about the Green Fairy, Absinthe. He is saying "Spirit...absinthe.......Your green muse" Kind of a clever play on words. It's someone drinking it and seeing visions.

At the Ritual, the song is about Absinthe is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from several plants, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium, together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Historically described as a highly alcoholic spirit, it is 45-74% ABV or 90-148 proof. And the stage takes on a pale Green.

Loving all the ghost content thanks for that!! Would love to see you react to more of their second album, Infestissumam ! I think it's my personal fave and he was fronting as papa emeritus II for this one and you can really hear the difference in his voice! There are also some acoustics cover they did on youtube if you're interested, he has a really nice voice 😊
