It would also depend on the flight plan. A lot of folks fly the 80 route to North Lake Tahoe and then cut down across the lake. This adds about 15 minutes to the flight. Going direct saves time, but a lot less options in case of trouble - HWY 50 is just not that good of an emergency landing alternative!

Question, is there fees to staying overnight at the South Lake Tahoe airport? Also, what is the fuel cost at that airport? I saw Chevron on 50 at $5.14 per gallon yesterday.

Hi Rick. I’ve never stayed there overnight, so not sure about the overnight fees. Mountain West Aviation is the FBO on field - I just checked ForeFlight it’s 5.99 for LL - not cheap!
