My favorite part - "wiggle, wiggle, wiggle - and Maggie too"! Also, as a 32-year veteran of NC law enforcement I would like to thank you for the respect you show to folks like the Border Patrol agent. It means a lot to officers to get that support.

We love Ft. Davis state park. My husband went when he was about 8 and we went last year when he was 61, he said it was just like he remembered. 😉. We're catching up on your videos. Wonderful trip! Laughed at your mention of the big canvas bag. We have one in our Travato K model too. I've nicknamed him "Fred". He rides in the bathroom in the back of the van, and as Fred grows, I get to wrastle with him every time one of us needs to use the facilities! Finally, I get to throw Fred out the door when we get to the laundromat. Love your videos!

Davis Mountains is a great multi-generational Park. First there is Indian Lodge for non-campers, the great campground you stayed at plus across from the main entrance there is the Backcounty gate which has an 8 mile loop for primitive tent sites. Thus if you have Grandparents and Parents with a wide age range of kids there is an appropriate adventure for everyone. Also there is a 2.2 mile hike through the Park to Fort Davis National Monument where the hikers can be picked up for ice cream before heading back to their RV, Lodge Room or Tents. Few Parks accommodate such a wide range of ages for a family reunion!

Marfa! We loved Marfa. Nicely restored buildings, some good cafés, very Berkeley-like. They had a really good NPR station and their slogan was “far left Texas“. And we were able to receive it all the way to Alpine and into BB. Re Winnebago build quality: on our first major trip after we bought our Travato G, our trip to Big Bend last year, the bamboo floor mat swelled up when I tried to use the shower and we couldn’t get the bathroom door to move; it jammed against the track - and as we went along, the door shook itself loose and fell off the tracks! We ended up having a bamboo shower mat that wouldn’t fit flush in the bathroom floor and the stupid aluminum bathroom door fell off because the track collapsed. Luckily I had a shower curtain along in case we wanted to take an outdoor shower in the back. We got some cup hooks, screwed those into the furring strip that the door track had been in and it was much better and quieter than the original door! I remember you did something like that on your K. But we had precious little space as it was in the garage, and a big chunk of it was taken up with that bamboo floor mat and the aluminum doors that we didn’t want to ruin in case we want to resell the thing and reinstall the aluminum door. But there are some that are so much worse. Thor‘s reputation is horrendous. I don’t know about Roadtrek, but Pleasure Way is the only one that seems to have a reputation for good build quality but it comes at a cost.

Laundry and dishes, can’t escape them can we. Loved this video, reminded me of, us (John and I) going west for the first time, taking it all in and stopping in little towns and those cafe/gas stations/ laundry/slots stop and one busy lady doing it all. And trying to imagine wagon trains going west, those were the real adventurers! Boggles the mind how far we have come with modern transportation. I have to agree with you about issues with your rv, seems the Mfg slaps on the cheapest components and out the door it goes. I bought a new Class C, a 2020, and it was a nitemare driving it home. Nobody bothered to explain that it would need a wheel alignment ASAP, before the tires were damaged. I took my rig to a reputable truck shop and had it done and asked them to also swap out the front shocks for a pair of heavy duty rv shocks. They questioned me about my reasoning at first, but I told them that when they build these things, the Mfg will put the cheapest they can buy on them. So much better after that. Then a Steer safe system came after that and now my rig drives like a different vehicle. And, what the heck is a company doing selling a class c without a spare tire? Well, now I have everything road ready and satisfied I can get down the road safely. Maggie, love you little girl, you are so dang cute. 🐕 ❤️ Happy tails.

You were right about this memorable park! Only a few days ago we were also at Ft Davis State Park. We did not go up the mountain, but it looks like a great place to watch a sunrise/sunset. The other campers here were very respectful of the night skies and we didn't see glaring lanterns at campsites. They have two incredible bird blinds within the campsite area and people from all over the country were checking out the Acorn Woodpeckers and hummingbirds. We made the mistake of not reserving a star party early enough at the nearby McDonald Observatory and not being in Fort Davis on a day when that restaurant you went to was open. Glad that you got to review their hamburgers! Made it back to Phoenix in one long day of driving from Ft. Davis.

It’s a real shame that RV manufacturers get away with charging megabucks for new RVs but use cardboard & tinsel for their parts. The RV industry is so huge and there is no regulatory commission that I know of to oversee what they do & don’t do. It’s a good thing you’re handy Owen but you shouldn’t have to replace parts that are still brand new. Texas is a whopper of a State; haven’t been there ever but you are definitely showing me parts I’d like to see. Safe travels wherever you are & stay well. Hugs for sweet Magpie!

You guys always find fun, no matter where you go. And, of course, Maggie takes it all in stride. She’s just glad to be on the journey with you! This week, we returned from a week in the North Georgia Mountains. Spring is just starting to break out and by the time we left, the trees were turning green and hints of flowers were all around us. Our cabin had a nice view and we got out to explore the countryside. We drove to Blue Ridge one day to get Carrol’s Barbque and it did not disappoint with meaty ribs, tender brisket and coleslaw that was just right - not too sweet. We spent some time at Brasstown Bald and took a bunch of pictures to remind us of the colors in those Blue Ridge Mountains! It is good to get out and about, even if we used a few precautions like wearing masks at the grocery store. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. May we all find things we love to see and do - no matter where the road takes us! Bye bye from NW Florida

Beautiful state. I missed out on visiting SpaceX in Boca Chica TX, in my new coach due to problems. The AC went out once I hit the warm weather at the start of the trip. The bed extender broke in the closed position making my bed only 25" wide. I called the manufacturer and they told me to come right in for repairs. So, SpaceX will have to wait. Well, as soon as I hit colder weather heading to Indiana, the heater went out...insult to injury...All was quickly repaired but I sure wanted to visit SpaceX...I feel your pain...

Yeah they go as cheap as they can. Quality ain’t what it use to be. I assume it’s Pex tubing. One guy replaced all the plastic elbows and connectors with brass and bought the tool to crimp it. Nice camp spot though. It should be warm by now, makes me wonder when spring is gonna get sprung 😂

Which do you like better? The Revel or the Travato K? Of course, I'm sure that's probably not an easy answer. My guess is there are things you like/dislike on both. My husband and I have a Travato K. However, I really like the G floor plan and the Solis (if only it had lithium and a black tank). So... I'm researching our next van. I love the Revel. However, I would rather not have a sprinter.

It is a hard question, I loved how open the Travato K felt, but I love the size of the Revel and that we can drive it anywhere (daily driver) without looking like we are traveling, but the size inside is also a pain point when we are traveling. Everything is a give and take and it always depends on what kind of traveling you are going to do.

Hey, I feel your pain re: Revel and plumbing issues. I’ve now replaced and pretty much re-plumbed my entire 2021. It started last year with replacing fittings and replumbing under the dinette, including securing the mixing valve that was flopping around like a rag doll and creating a manifold. Then earlier this year (my fault for not emptying the strainer bowl during an over night freeze) the strainer bowl blew out and I found all but the tank fittings weeping or out and out pouring out water. So I replaced everything thing with brass fittings and braided stainless steel flex lines (you commented on my FB post about this with obvious frustration with WGO). Well during a trip to VT about ten days ago I found water leaking under the galley (I expected it sooner or later). So, out the galley came and I’ve replaced the last of the cheap @$$ fittings with brass and replumbed everything back to the “wet bay”/pump. All told about $200 retail for all of the fittings, Oetiker clamps, PEX tools, flex lines and PEX tubing. A price that WGO could easily include in price to the consumer as whole sale volume pricing to WGO would be about $100 for a superior product. Also, during this work I found that the fittings which were stuffed way back under the pantry had been weeping for quite some time, lots of water under the reflectex insulation that I had to vacuum out. Lastly, I saw on the VT trip my slider window was leaking and found the foam insulation was soaked. So, one more thing to repair/replace. Might replace with a CR Lawrence window. Not sure yet, but the install of that window is janky as can be. Keep up the good work on your end. Your videos are part of our family Sunday line up.

Thanks for sharing your struggles. We will probably be taking out the galley and replacing the plumbing there also, just so we want have to do it on a trip. Let us know how the window install goes if you do that.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I finally finished the plumbing in the galley. If you want info more than happy to share pics etc… The window was loose and tightened all of the 58 screws WGO used and now it’s not leaking no matter how hard I try to make it leak. The installation that WGO did is Rube Goldbergian at best. I’m thinking I’ll replace with a Tern window as opposed to CRL. Cannot believe the horrific install of the window.

Fort Davis is probably my favorite place in west Texas. Almost bought property there intending to retire, but by the time I’d decided to do that, the wealthy from Fort Worth/Dallas discovered the area and real estate more than doubled. Fun tiny town and amazing natural area. The other concern there was they were fated to have water issues at some point, as with much of west Texas.

We have cooler with a dog bed on top between the seats for Maggie. We have to level the cooler and we keep extra drinks in it so it doesn’t move around. The passenger can crawl over to go to the bathroom, but the driver has to get out, not ideal. Also, it’s not the safest place for Maggie to ride, we’ve tried to get her to sit on the bench seat but it’s one of those things that now we’ve already started it’s hard to change it for her.

I love you guys and been following you for a long time. Do you ever have trouble driving the Revel in the wind? did you get suspension upgrades or upgrade your sway bar? @@VANTREKKINGlifestyle thank you. I am doing a lot of research now. I am going to add the Hellrig sway bar (does not cost much) - it appears that will help the sway, while the other upgrades help suspension ??? For the minimal cost, if I don’t like it I can put the Sprinter standard back on. And the air fry? What a great idea. And easy cleanup. You three are my favorite follow. Honesty. Funny. Smart. I am not looking forward to the leaks, being a solo woman with no plumbing skills. I wish someone could post a list with all the plastic junk that breaks, detailed, then I would hire a plumber to replace them all now as a preventative. Lol Thank you. BTW, I have the Agile RIP.

Curious - do you use your packing cubes when making a long trip like this? BTW - You mentioned a week or so ago about putting the camera outside due to the glare. Debbie from She2Me mentioned putting a black mat or cloth on the dash to solve that. Regarding quality issues - I feel you. You save and scrimp and that’s a lot of money to invest in a van. You expect quality. I hope they see this and reach out.

As you know, I’ve been searching for the perfect rig and have crossed quite a few off my list. It seems I can buy a used, purpose built, high quality, semi-custom rig for the same price or less than that of a Revel. Some of these used rigs will even fit into a shipping container to take you to Africa! WBGO could and should do better, IMO. You shouldn’t have to spend part of your big West trip in Lowe’s parking lot repairing plumbing. I’m hoping the rest of your trip goes smoothly and you’ll be rewarded with special times that’ll make the troubles worth it. BTW, some travelers stock up on Merino wool and layer. Merino doesn’t absorb odors and you can wear it longer between washings. It wicks, so it’s comfortable in four seasons. Sorry to be so long winded; I just hate seeing you having hiccups on your epic road trip.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle 2 жыл бұрын
We both have some Merino wool, and it’s great and well worth the money. It will be interesting to see what rig you end up with. Having one custom built may be the way to go if you can wait that long or build it yourself if you can. Thanks for your weekly support.
