The moment you turned onto this property with the fancy entry I knew this was a place that can make a small fortune farming from a large fortune. Turned to be true as everything is new and built to perfection before they learn if they can do it not have they developed a market for their specialty products. You can make the finest but you need customers to buy it. Nice ponds, B&B and river. All so nice.

A few thoughts and questions, 1st, I don't believe your buddy is from around here, picked up on a little accent. 2nd, they've spent or are still spending a fortune already on that place. I can see they must be into more than just farming, because your type of farming will never pay for their investment, not being critical, but this is a lot more than just a small family farm just getting started, a lot of money behind this operation

That Fisher would stove that they have is the same Fisher would stove as I have but I cut the hump out of mine welded the backpack on and put it in my bus for a small wood stove good wood stove

I love seeing this. It makes me even more grateful that you all show even more simple setups in all your videos. I could not afford to do what this man is doing any time soon, but your videos did give me the confidence to try raising pasture pigs myself over the past two years. We started with six last year and have 15 headed to market this year. They are also helping us clear some very overgrown old farmland and pasture while they are growing out. You have given us many great ideas.

Well we just started our farm experience Feb thus year. All in All so far so good. We have gotten a Registered Landrace Gilt and have farrowed 14 piglets (9 females and 5 males) looks like we will be able to wean ALL 14!! We processed our first batch of 81 Cornish Broiler birds. Processing went pretty good but the birds were awful tough..Good flavor but awful tough. Not sure why they are tough.. We also have around 120 layers i need to get them gathered up and get a good count as we've lost a few to hawks and they got in the pig pen and Lillymae wasn't happy about it and took them out..Thats her feed and she's lettin know..lol. I see some of our pitfalls and working on the corrections, but some insight on a better setup for would be helpful!! I think at this point about the only true frustration is our first batch of broilers being tough a d just struggling to figure it out.. Thanks for ALL YOUR VIDEOS!! LOVE THEM!! GOD BLESS

Free range / pastured birds are always tougher as they are more active so muscles work a lot more compared to battery farmed birds which barely move at all in their lifetime. This results in more firm muscles (meat) in the final product.

How are they going to do on-farm pig processing? Does North Carolina not require USDA inspection for pork sales? I thought farmers can process their own pigs, but pigs for sale must be processed at USDA-inspected facilities. What am I missing?

yeah that is also why i watch people video as i come from farmers on both side and i know the old ways where your neighbors got new stuff you went to check it out but you never went that far , everytime someone visit you ask who had starting to cutting grass around or tried to get info as there werent any farm trips like we have today where people go to see how others do things and trade shows where never that big nor often , still salepersons came as they were driving around the area trying to sell your stuff but it wasnt maybe the best for your farm nor best brands. my grandfather and father did what their family did before as i ask my father last year how they used to picked their cattle forward and i got back they picked it from simple look like color and mood and milk and such but i learned more on youtube on how to breed better cattle by breeding by breeding standards like info of what judges rate parts of animals and things like figure out things like easy birth and yes breed best and cull more and well all this new high tech stuff like paper work on parents and grand parents of the cattle to get best forward instead of just taking some home bull and put in with ladies to get sub par calfs then yeah i am into chicken and ducks and geese so you learn more on cull often to get best out of your breeding stock and one mistake can take you years to get you back on track if you let beta male be father of the future livestock and also you learn on youtube on how to modify the farm to work even better with you instead of doing what people did before you did.. like collect rainwater instead of carry buckets around is a time saver or yeah like he did dig a water line to just plug hose in when ever he need to get water.

Yep it's nice. The bottom line is how long is it going to take to get a return on investment. Farming is like any other business you can carry a loss only so long before you must show a profit. Sure looks like a hunk to recover. Nice though just the same. Good luck.
