We were lucky in that we received 50% off our Alaskan sailing on the Wonder, this past July, due to the Wish not being completed yet. We stayed at the Pan-Pacific and really loved the hotel! Disney does a wonderful job on their Alaskan sailings! 😀

We were on the Wonder with you all. What a nice surprise. I recognized Pete first. We also arrived a few days early. We rented ebikes and rode around the park. The weather was perfect. Vancouver was spectacular. The cruise was magical. Alaska is more beautiful than I could ever imagine. And that was just a slice of that state.

My group went on this cruise the week before your team! I completely agree with everything stated in this review. I loved the size and the layout of the ship and had a very comfortable experience. There were definitely some hits and misses with the food, which is true with other cruise lines. The only truly offensive meal was the menu offered on the night of the Freeze the Night party. However, Palo brunch and dinner are still absolutely incredible. I also worship the cast members at Cove Cafe, and it’s the best place to start your morning. If I could add one tip, don’t be discouraged if you can’t sign up for your desired excursion before the cruise. My group wasn’t able to book the Dawes Glacier boat tour initially. However, we kept checking the DCL app for openings and our persistence paid off. A few slots opened the morning of, and we immediately booked those spots through the app. I also find that going to the excursions desk in the early hours of the day (before 6:00 am) led more success with booking highly desirable excursions at the last minute. There’s less of a line, and cancellations can still happen the night before. Be persistent!

I’m with Craig on this, go all the way to Whittier on Princess; you’ll get the better Alaskan experience. You can even add a train tour and lodge stay. I didn’t hear Pete like anything in particular that would convince anyone of his recommendation.

Hubby and I went on the Wonder early Aug. I thought the food was very good. We did all rotational dining, Cabanas for bf twice and Palo brunch. I tried most of the regional menu items. But, hubby and I don't go out too often and cook at home pretty much every night. I live in Las Vegas so I have great restaurants to go to here. I think that makes a difference with my evaluation of the food. It was however not "atrocious". Food is very subjective.

Has anyone experienced Fly Over Canada at the Pan Pacific? It’s like Soarin’ (same ride mechanism I think). It’s pretty cool - they do different films for Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Years. Saw one last year that was about the Hawaiian Islands. I think it might be a fun thing to do if you are in Vancouver pre or post cruise.

Just took an Alaskan cruise in early August with Norwegian on the Encore for roughy 1/2 the cost of Disney. Our kids (10 & 12) loved it as did my wife & I. Very clean, food was amazing, great entertainment & the kids loved the go cart track, laser tag arena & VR arcade. Round trip out of Seattle made it more convenient too.

Totally agree with Craig on the increased price for Disney not being justified. We have done Disney Alaska in 2011, and wanted to do another Alaska in 2016, We were able to do a suite on Celebrity with Internet, Gratuities, Premium Drink package and onboard credit included for around half of what Disney would have cost. For what Pete paid for a Balcony, that would have been another story. When we priced it in 2016, the balcony cabin on Disney was over $8000 for two people, which is outrageous. The same cruise in a sky suite on Celebrity was only a little over $4000, and the food was spectacular. We would like to do the Disney Alaska again, but not after seeing what we could get for our money on another cruise line. We did Celebrity Alaska from Seattle again this year in a suite and had a fantastic time. Disney is great, but just not a premium experience and not worth the premium price tag that they ask. Celebrity is well known in the industry as being a Premium Line.

We cruised with Holland America (Juneau, Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Ketchikan) the week before you all went on the Wonder, and it was a phenomenal time! We had a veranda stateroom, and we looked up that the equivalent Disney room and sailing legitimately was double the price!! The food on Holland America is SO good, I’d never be able to justify the cost of a Disney sailing in Alaska.

We originally booked the Alaskan Wonder cruise in 2019 for June 2020. It was canceled twice by Canada in 2020, and 2021. The June 2022 cruise we chose not to go b/c testing positive at the port would mean missing the cruise, and being quarantined in Canada. #Hardpass We booked 6/26/2023. Hopefully our 4th attempt will workout. 🙏🙏🙏

We just returned from Vancouver yesterday (sept 13th) While we were waiting for our test results, I found out 5 people had already tested positive. They and their entire parties couldn’t sail. I was very concerned about being barred from sailing (we had already missed one cruise because I had gotten my vaccines one day too late for the sailing) if we tested positive but decided to book anyway. The quarantine in Canada is a serious issue tho. Trip Insurance is always a good idea and Disney will help work out quarantine issues. My daughter tested the day before she flew to Vancouver (sailing the next day) and had no problem. The day before they took the test, they bought an at home Test kit to make sure. My son and I tested at the port and it was easy. Altho, if you sign up through Safe Passage as early as possible (2 weeks before Sailing), you can make an appointment for testing at a local site the day (or 2) before sailing or have a test kit mailed to your home (test taken within 48 hours of sail date with a medical official watching over zoom (or other video service). We didnt get into Safe Passage early enough and these were not options.

Most of them came unsweetened; some came without lemonade, etc. ironically, whoever made them for the dining room made them perfectly!

Our cruise to Alaska last year was NCL Encore. The design of that ship, with a massive enclosed observation deck, was perfect for Glacier Bay. We thought the food and service were excellent. We really didn't care for how far out the docks were at Juneau and Ketchikan -- that was our major complaint. And two full broadway style shows. And, we were in a balcony cabin for less than Disney would have charged for interior. All in all, I couldn't see doing Disney for Alaska.

First, I would say this video is a little late since the last Sailing of 2022 left Vancouver 2 days ago. But I’ll include my own thoughts since I got back from the cruise yesterday. Definitely, definitely take time to see Vancouver. We flew from the East Coast and took the time at the beginning to recover from the flight. My daughter flew in the day before because of lack of vacation time and they wish they had had the time to go a day earlier just because the flights took all day. As gear as hotels, dont let “Disney transfers” sway your decision of where to stay. We stayed just a 10min taxi ride (plus the taxi brought us into the parking garage and dropped us at the bag drop off. We stayed at Hotel L’Soleil on Hornby street. It was way less expensive than the Fairmont (a transfer hotel) and certainly less than the hotel they mention as being “right there”. We also went to Sawyer Glacier because the Captain thought it was a better glacier. The excursion for getting close to the glacier was only available on Dawes. Cost of Excursions: If you are looking at the Alaska Cruise, but don’t have the money fo some of the pricier excursions, then save your money. The Alaska Cruise is for those who want the nature aspect of things. We selected the Helicopter Glacier tour in Juneau which brought you to the glacier (different than Sawyer/Dawes) and we walked on the glacier. It was well worth the money as a once in a lifetime trip but it was $400+ per adult. I did the Misty Fjords tour which was beautiful for sightseeing. My adult kids did the Zip Lining and loved it except it was more the experience and their guides. They had done zip lining before in other places and it was about the same.So be prepared to pay for the excellent shore excursions and do the things you cant do anywhere else. Walking on the Glacier was the entire purpose of the trip. We were a party of 4 adults but love Disney and love the Disney Cruise Line for the service and experience. We didnt do characters (usually too busy with Bingo, Trivia and the latest movie). We’ve done cruises since my kids for 15 and 8 (now 30 and 23) but all with Disney. Disagree that the food was “atrocious”. Some of our meals just ok but most of the meals were good. I’m pretty finicky but my kids tried just about everything on the menu (yes, you can order more than one meal plus they tried each other’s plates). As far as the Salmon goes, one thing to remember is that they are dependent on the availability. Salmon and most Fisheries in Alaska have had reduced quota available for the last couple of years. It also depends on the time of the sailings. We were after the salmon season and early sailings would be before the Salmon season. Having said that, they need more non fish options on the menu. Every meal had more than half the food being fish or shellfish. Tiana’s bar area being “out of the way”, lol. It’s on a main hallway on deck 3 between the Atrium/Triton’s and Animators Palate. but there is never anyone there except on Disembarkation when it every seat is taken. As far as the cocktails go, my daughter and here boyfriend are servers at WDW. My daughter works at Trader Sam’s. they try many different drinks plus their normal standards and never complained. As far as the characters goes, my biggest complaint was the vast majority were up on deck outside vs the Caribbean cruises where they are usually in the atrium and up on deck 4/5 in the area open to the Atrium. Seems like it shouldnt be a complaint, but we were on the 2nd to last sailing in the beginning of September and it was cold. I think we would have done more pictures with the characters (especially since their outfits are different) but it was too cold to spend a lot of time on deck. So on that note, the Wonder was built for cruising in the Caribbean and the cold radiates right thru the large “port holes” on the main decks (where the restaurants and other venues are. If you go during September (and possibly the first month of the season, bring warm clothes. My daughter checked the avaerage temperatures and said “don’t worry we’ll be fine” but even on the Inside Passage the wind is cold. We ended up wearing sweatshirts all the time and the further North we went, the more people were wearing their ski jackets inside the ship. Some places were colder than others but if you dress right you’ll be fine. Having said that, I would do this trip all over again. As always, the shows, trivia, bingo, etc were all fun. We tried TV Tunes Trivia for the first time and lived it. Played every chance we got. Disembarkation Day: One thing we did that I would consider a mistake was we flew back on Disembarkation day. Not knowing when we would be off the boat, I booked afternoon flights which meant red-eye flights back to the EastCoast (we had 3 segments). Didnt really sleep on the planes and there were long layovers. if I were doing it again, I would get off the boat, spend time touring Vancouver and stay overnight taking a morning flight. At least I’d have been rested. As it was, I slept the entire day we returned at 9:00am so I didnt save time by flying home right away. Was it worth the cost? I say absolutely BUT we had 2 cabins. One was paid for with Disney Vacation Cl,but points and the other was cash. It is an expensive Cruise. The cash cost is pricey but it’s a once in a lifetime trip. It was worth it to me to spend the time with my kids in a more exciting place than the Caribbean. To DCL Fans, I hope to see you in the South Pacific and Australia (At D23 they announced South Pacific Sailings and Australia)!!

Have to agree with Craig on the price difference being "worth it". We cruised Celebrity on the comparable itinerary the week before ya'll were on the Wonder and when we priced it out we could get 2 veranda staterooms on the Solstice for less than 1 room on the Wonder. We are gold on DCL and love the product but it's much harder to justify the cost difference sometimes especially now that our kids are teenagers so the kids' programming isn't as much of a pull. Plus our price on Celebrity included everything - gratuities, shipboard credit, premium drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic - specialty coffees, sparking water, smoothies, soft drinks, etc.), airfare...we literally had a $0 balance on our rooms at the end. The food was "meh" (but I think that's a product of post-covid cruising) but the service was excellent and we had no complaints. In fact our room steward was the best we have ever had on any cruise line. Never went to a show but did all the naturalists' talks and a lot of the ship activities. So all in all the savings were well worth it. If we cruise to Alaska again we will DEFINITELY be on a one-way to get time to explore the interior of the state. Or just do an entire land-based trip. The roundtrip cruise is great for a first time experience but I don't feel it's worth repeating. We repeated only because we didn't take our kids the first time and they wanted to see it before they are off to college in a couple of years!

An Alaskan cruise looks breathtaking!! I loved this video from you guys. However....food being bad(or even mediocre) on a cruise line that costs as much as Disney does, is unacceptable in my opinion. That is super disappointing. The food honestly is my biggest cause of stress. We are going on our first cruise and I need to book it. But I can't pick between the cruise lines(I have a 8 and 10 year old as well). I like that the other lines like royal and even carnival have so, so many food choices. My son and I are extremely picky eaters lol. Ughhh, wish the food was better on Disney. Or I wish they had more than one specialty restaurant that wasn't so expensive.

Problem with comparing cruise lines and prices a lot of us can’t afford doing a Disney Alaska cruise and maybe have to do the cheaper cruise lines. I mean if I had the money like Pete and able to stay in concierge most times I may think sailing on Disney is worth the extra money.
@krab1791
@krab1791 Жыл бұрын
You don’t have to stay in Concierge to think Disney is worth the extra money. I use my Disney Vacation Club points for most of our cruises. For this cruise, I got one cabin with points and paid cash for the other. Was it cheap? No but I would do it all over again. The service you get is the same whether you are inConcierge or an Inside stateroom. Service is the Disney Difference. It doesnt matter what level cabin you select or whether you pay cash or book thru DVC. You still receive the same level of Service. Concierge gives you a few extra benefits but you are paying extra for that. It’s a very small percentage of the guests.
@caryrae73

@@krab1791 I’ve heard the Dis say a lot that it’s better to rent out your points and use the cash for a cruise instead of using your points to go on a cruise. Like Craig said his family had 3 cabins on a different line for about the same price as one on a Disney cruise. It just depends on what you can spend. Plus they all said how bad the food was, so you pay a lot more and get bad food. I’ve heard service on other lines can be great too. With Pete I just meant he can afford to do whatever he wants, so when you have money it’s easier to say something is worth the extra money.

I think I would have to agree with craig, the food is a big deal for me and that alone would have me go elsewhere if it was that bad, especially if the price was 1/2 of Disney, Princess has been known to have a great Alaskan cruise and if I could save that much and have great food it wouldn’t matter how much. I liked Disney I would do the other

I have to agree with the fact that when you compare Disney to Princess or Celebrity, specially in Alaska, forget it, with Disney you are overpaying for bad food and ok service compared to those two lines. Now compared to Norwegian or Royal, I have never done them In Alaska so I wouldn’t know.

3000 isn’t bad for a seven night on a Disney ship, but if the food is bad, what’s the upside? I don’t want subpar food on vacay.

$264 a person for a boat ride out to the glacier?!??!?!?!?!
@krab1791
@krab1791 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely and that wasnt even one of the more expensive tours. I saw would have paid it if there was space. Seeing the glacier from the boat was great but I would have preferred seeing it up closes along with the seals. It wasn’t as awe inspiring from the decks of the wonder. The up close viewing gives you an appreciation for the size of the glaciers that you dont get from the Wonder. I paid $400+ for the Helicopter tour with a walk on the Glacier in Juneau and it was worth every penny. These arent things you can do every day. It should also be noted that Disney doesnt get to set the price. All the ships offer pretty much the same tours and prices are sent by the tour companies. Alaska is an expensive trip. Why take a boat from Vancouver to Alaska and then cheap out on the excursions?

It wasn’t on the sailing last week. Enjoy your Mexico cruise. The Wonder is a great boat. We have sailed on her many times. You’ll have the same cruise staff and servers as we did since they sail to San Diego next week to begin the Mexico cruises.

I must be easy to please because every cruise I have taken, I thought the food was good. I have been on the Magic and the Fantasy several times, and I was fine with the MDRs. I always eat dinner at Remy's and Palo's every Fantasy cruise, and Palo's on the Magic so I am someone who does appreciate good food. Obviously the food is better at Remy's and Palo's, but the MDRs are fine with me on other nights. I haven't cruised since 2019 (Mediterranean) so perhaps the quality of the food has diminished since the pandemic. I guess I'll find out when I am on the Fantasy next month. I have to admit, I do go with the mindset that I am going to have a magical experience so maybe that also factors into it. As for the bartenders, I'm a wine (and Moet champagne) drinker so I can't speak for the fancy drink experience. We do wine, champagne, liquor tastings on board as well...but again, this isn't the same as ordering a drink mixed with multiple ingredients where a good bartender is required.

I’m head to please and I had no problems with the food on the Sept 5th sailing. My kids (adults) ordered practically everything on the menu. You can ask for a second entree and it wasn’t unusual for us to have 6 entrees for 4 diners plus multiple appetizers. There wasnt a single item they thought was mediocre. My daughter works at Trader Sam’s at the Polynesian and neither she nor her boyfriend had any issues with any of the cocktails served and they tried many plus their standard choices.

@@kristinedouglas9751 Our taxi driver asked us to pay in US when we said we’d pay cash. They can hold it and get a better exchange rate. We ended up paying Canadian tho because we were on our way to the airport and I was going to have to change it back. The taxi meters and the amount Lyft/Uber are in CAD. Everything including your hotel is priced in CAD. If you are asked to pay in US, realize that the US dollar is worth more than the CAD right now and for a taxi if you pay the meter but in US dollars then you are overpaying.

@@krab1791 yes, thanks for the info. I did look at the exchange rate prior to our visit and figured and voiced that to the drivers when I paid them. If I overpaid that is still okay we had great Lyft, cab drivers.

It’s the food that makes it or breaks it for us. Disney is so close to reaching excellence. And yet.. they drop the ball and reduce the experience to a cafeteria. Not worth the extra price.

Totally disagree. Service is what makes or breaks the trip. Just returned and had no issues with the food and I am very picky about food, It certainly is neither “atrocious” nor “cafeteria” food.

In the next nine months, I’m going to get a chance to experience both the Wonder (a four night Very Merrytime to Cabo San Lucas) out of my hometown of San Diego and then the “Big Ship” experience on Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas (which is almost EXACTLY twice the size , 166 tons to 83 tons, as Wonder, I’ve recently found out) next June from Seattle up the Inside Passage (I have family in Seattle so we chose there over Vancouver, where I actually Honeymooned!)…When we were comparing PRICE between the two, the experience was Quite Shocking!..We need a Disabled Accesible cabin because of my wife, so I’m not sure how the comparison works with regular cabins…The Wonder, for a 400 sq foot cabin with a larger disabled bathroom with a roll in shower, was going to be almost $8000 for our cabin….The Ovation of the Sea, with a similar bathroom and a 375 sq four cabin WAS $3100 (including gratuities and travel insurance)--NOT $3100 CHEAPER…$3100 TOTAL!! Almost $5000 Cheaper for what looks to be the same itinerary (better, actually since we also get a full day in Victoria along with Sitka, Juneau, and Skagway)…EVEN IF I OPT FOR ALL OF THE DELUXE DINING AND DRINK OPTIONS , IT iS STILL $3000 Cheaper! We are, seriously, For the same cost of the ONE cruise on the Wonder, WE ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO ALSO Afford A 19 day Cruise in April 2024 from Sydney to Hawaii (again, in the same 375 sq ft Accesible cabin)….While I am hoping the food improves from the Alaska cruise you guys took by The time we sail in early December, I can’t see ANY WAY THE WONDER is worth the price AT ALL based on just how bad you guys are saying the food was…(Additionally, as for some of the other “Disney perks” , we’re just Not character greeting-oriented people and our kids are adults, so how the characters look or don’t are not really an issue…and I’m sure the kids clubs are Wonderful but that’s also a non-issue)..I Would be VERY CURIOUS, in all sincerity here, to hear Pete list his reasons JUST WHY this ranks as his favorite Disney ship, DESPITE Atrocious food (and it’s Obviously Not Just the Alaska itinerary since he’s mentioned he’s also sailing Twice on the Wonder in December)…I would Really love to hear some about it’s Really Positive Qualities as one of the Original DCL ships!
