I really enjoyed it! I thought it was a fun movie! Joaquin and Margot as Joker and Harley would be too weird. They’re movies/universes are so drastically different. It wouldn’t work.

I really liked this movie! Not as much as Wonder Woman and Shazam, but definitely more than any other DCEU movies. I was not at all a fan of the Joker because I believe that the core of both Joker and Harley is chaotic fun and that movie lacked all of that. I was happy with the chaotic fun that we got in this movie! Standout parts for me were Harley and Huntress. I will agree with many others that Cassie Cane should have had a different name.

Personally, this is my favorite DCEU movie so far (which says a lot because I really love all the DCEU movies except for JL and SS) and one of my fav CBMs overall. Seen it 3 times in the cinema and planning on seeing it at least 3 times more before it leaves the theater. I absolutely loved the hell out of it (and mind you, I'm in my 20s, not a 14 year old girl lol). Honestly I can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching a movie.

I agree with you guys on some parts but at the same time I just saw the movie as a one time thing, I'm done with waiting for DC to actually read the comics and truly get to what makes a character themselves. And you're right about not seeing enough of Harley and Joker relationship to care and you're right about having these characters and no proper dedication to them. But at the same time, I just laughed and had a good time watching the movie and at this point I'm okay with a movie like that. I'm very glad you guys showed your opinion! Great video!

DC can pull a “Flashpoint” card and reboot the whole thing. I think it would make sense to have flashpoint as the first Flash movie as Barry is still a rookie, making rookie mistakes.

I disagree. It’s childlike and immature, but so is Harley? She’s been written that way for over a decade, but they still showed that she’s still complex. It’s also supposed to be told through Harley’s lens. You can’t compare this to films like Joker, because they aren’t going for that life changing eye opening film. I agree that I’d prefer to be shown and not told, but this literally feels like a live action version of a Harley centric BTAS episode

While I appreciate your review, comparing it to Joker right off the bat was questionable choice. Because 1) Joker doesn’t exist in the DCEU 2) It was a completely different type of movie from Birds of Prey. It was a poorly done movie, slightly better than Suicide Squad but that’s not saying much haha.

I am like you and I know the characters in depth, however I wasn’t expecting anything great. The only person I really enjoyed was Margot Robbie to me she is the perfect Harley Quinn, but this movie didn’t capitalize on it. I enjoyed the movie for what it was the music was great, the police station scene with the colours was cool and the humour.

It seems like your main issue with the movie is that you are comparing it to other movies genres with different tones and iterations - yes, there are movies that are delve into dark issues and the psychology of what makes a criminal... but this movie was never trying to be that. It was pure color, camp and entertainment (which is how I prefer my comic book films, personally). Although, knowing now that the "Birds of Prey" moniker refers more to a Huntress/Canary + others team, I would agree the this movie should have been "The Emancipation of Harley Quinn" so a future movie could have been "Birds of Prey" now that those characters have been introduced. And I don't disagree that a Joker/Harley movie [with Leto and Robbie] would have been great, or a Black Mask movie, but that's just some on a long list of should've could'ves that will make you crazy - take it from a Potterhead who's been burned: never watch adaptions with high expectations. It's also funny you mention Wonder Woman as an example, because I still have yet to watch the second half, as it was that non-compelling for me; the 1984 trailer they showed in front of BOP was also a snooze, just cobbled shots with no clear plot line or antagonist (unless the villain was supposed to be shoulder pads) - it really is to each, their own.

It seems like the cool thing to do these days is to hate on Birds of Prey simply because idk...? and compare it to everything else that it shouldn't be compared to like Sonic (a movie for kids) and Joker (a DRAMA). I for one as a female am extremely in love with BOP and it feels so refreshing to see other females on screen doing a lot of their own stunts and can actually be seen kicking ass. Margot and the girls deserve more credit and to not constantly get shit on because they got screwed over by bad marketing.

Your review reminded me of the song in Suicide Squad: "I started a joke which started the whole world crying..." had hope, but the trailer was so boring and wrong. I enjoyed Suicide Squad to a point. Not completely sold on the sequel. Really wish we had a Joker and Harley film first.

I enjoyed the movie, but I'm a huge Harley Quinn fan and Margot Robbie makes Harley work.... but it's definitely not amazing or mind blowing WB is totally rushing through establishing characters.... I totally agree with what you're saying we have totally been cheated that we haven't gotten to see a proper portrayal of the Harley and Joker relationship. Our society has become so gun shy about portraying gritty topics like abusive relationships and such,but to understand Harley you have to understand the relationship she and the Joker had. They should totally just make the Harleen comic by Stjepan Sejic into a film that would be awesome IMO. Great vid as always yall!

As a fan of ONLY the movies that has never read a comic book in my life, Suicide Squad is amazing. Still hurts to hear people bash it over and over. I've watched it countless times. What DC is doing is making films for everyone, not just fans of the old comics. I love every movie Batman has ever been in. I passed on the Joker because it looks boring and I myself deal with mental illness and don't care to watch someone else go through those struggles. I want to see fantasy violence with characters like Batman and Joker fighting each other, I don't give a shit about their feelings. I think I will like Harley Quinn because she is one of my favorite characters and I love goofy fantasy super hero movies. Suicide Squad and the 2 Deadpool movies are the only super hero films I've truly enjoyed since the Dark Night trilogy. Some people like different things and I totally disagree on your opinions about the current state of the DC franchise.

Margot Robbie sabotaged it all, full creative control and WB bent to all her demands. Wanted to be Deadpool but that worked because it went to an 14/10 insanity while Birds of Prey had two F bombs beyond PG 13 to get R rating. Bottom line it was Harley Quinn and Birds of Prey, not Sirens or Joker involved because Robbie didn't want any other characters or actors to upstage her. Would you of liked this plot for a Harley Quinn movie, Harley Quinn and Joker break up and they destroy Gotham trying to kill each other but ultimately end up together at end again because that's how life works all too often?

A good use for orphan would have been to give her own movie (very cheap); have her be mute like the comics and work her way up to speaking. Lady Shiva or Cluemaster would be the villains.

I went opening weekend to the large screen cinema there was less than 10 people in there which shows no one was excited. I think the acting wasn't brilliant and some of the lines were a bit clunky.

I thought the movie wasn't bad. My main problems were the constant flash backs, and lighting. They relied heavily on flashbacks to push the plot and the lighting during the last half of the movie mad everything seem way too dark to the point where you had a hard time keeping up with what was going on. Other than that, I did enjoy the movie.

Movies like that are the reasons they are in trouble. I said it so many times if they put the people that are in charge of their animated movies in charge of their live action movies they would be wonderful but they don't and we end up with movies like this

I had fun watching this movie. I don't think it was really a great movie or anything and they could have done a much better job on some of the characters... but I left the movie thinking "That was kind of fun to watch. I wish Huntress was in it a little more... but I liked Black Mask, Black Canary and Harley Quinn." I did not like Suicide Squad at all... I didn't see it until after I saw Birds of Prey though. I do wish they just did a Joker and Harley movie before Suicide Squad.

I liked the idea they were going with to make an unreliable narrator (Harley Quinn). I thought there was some really cool scenes and some ones that either didn't make sense or was just too much. Some of the new characters I actually liked probably because I don't know much about the original version or am okay with a different version of the character. There were quite a few moments that felt like they were just forcing words or scenes that were inappropriate just to be inappropriate. I still like the movie, but it could have been done differently.

You are absolutely correct in the forcing scenes and words. I think the narration probably would have worked better had they gotten rid of the BOP and freed up more time for us to understand what Harley was going through. Or simply just brought back Leto for a final movie with her.

The problem with some of these DC movies is that the plot point is weak. They are trying to do WAY to much, throw out so much information in such little time. Batman v Superman had a weak complicated story line. In the end you didn't care if both characters lived or died. Justice league problem was weak story, not enough screen time for relationships between characters to be built up cause they were constantly jumping from location to location, action scene to action scene. Suicide squads problem was weak script and an even weaker villain. No character development at all. I mean there wasn't even a 5 second back story on Slipknot. He just shows up out of the blue with the rest of the bad guys and is immediately killed. Joker could have been great but his role was reduced to bring no more than a glorified cameo. Also everyone blames Jared Leto for the joker being bad. It wasn't his joker. If you go back and look at press interviews for Suicide Squad the director stated that everything about the Joker was his idea, his vision. The tattoos, the teeth, the clothes.

Birds of Prey might not be a good movie, but it’s a fun movie. I was honestly just looking for a campy beat them up type movie. Plus, it was kinda my first true movie date, so I will have a soft spot for it. Wish the movie was more connected to the comic book, it was indeed the plot that hurt the movie. I think all the actors had so much potential, even Huntress and Cassandra Cain.

Honestly I'd be okay if they just leave the joker out of the dceu entirely. Rather watch Harley become more of a hero and find a good relationship in a trilogy of movies. I'd fall in the group that really enjoyed the movie. Had trips as well but were minimal compared to the rest of the lineup. Thought Ewan did a great job with Black Mask and the overall pace and look of the movie I to be enjoyable. Top 3 dc movies shazam, birds, ww. Bottom 3 squad, JL, Aquaman

I really liked this movie! I would say it is definitely in my top 5 DC movies. And I completely understand all the criticisms, but I had so much freakin' fun watching this! And (I know I am in the minority here) but I actually liked this better than the Deadpool movies. I would be interested to see what else they do with Huntress if Winstead keeps playing her. I think that if they spent time with her she would still make a great Huntress.

I also think with the DCEU, they've looked at harley being a popular character and totally honed in on assuming everyone would love her regardless of the film and its not gone right. I honestly enjoyed sonic so much more which is sad because I love DC so much and want to see it succeed. Also not helping is that the creators of the newer harley are blocking folk on twitter when they read a harsh comment on the depiction of harley. I just think it's should have been scrubbed and reset with James Gunn completely

Birds of Prey was meh at best. One gripe would be in a cinematic universe full of super heroes and villians Harley takes on multiple police officers ,prisoners and gang members one after another without much/next to no struggle just isn't believable. In Batman v Superman Batfleck gets stabbed, knocked around and even though he wins he had to earn it. More believable, given the tactics shown in the scene and his martial background and YEARS of experiance fighting crime.

If you read the comics then you would know that these characters are together which are a group called Birds Of Prey minus Harley Quinn because she pop up in the books now and then.... They forced a female cast thus chose to bring in BOP that has nothing to do with Harley Quinn, added Cassandra Cain (batgirl) who acted nothing like batgirl or Orphan like in the comics. Huntress and Black Canary were the only true BOP members but made one a joke and the other absolutely nothing like the Justice League member that BC is. Also, not having Barbara Gordon (Oracle) in it was a missed opportunity. Instead we got a little jewel thief that had no interesting qualities like her comic character Orphan.

The movie going back and forth switching from day to day is totally Harley! She literally says in the beginning “This is my story and I’m going to tell it the way I want too”. There’s so much going on in her head that’s she forgets parts and has to go back and tell the part she missed. That’s so Harley telling the story of this movie. I personally thought this movie was so good!

Hate that they are blaming men for its failure, when nearly 60% of the US audience in the first week was male. Repeatedly said the movie it’s not for men don’t be surprise when it fails. But you don’t get to blame them when it fails.

The movie wasnt terrible but wasn't great either its my least favourite. Yes even suicide squad was better. Marrgot robbie is greatvas harley quinn but that was it the rest of cast have nothing to do. And black mask was completely wasted.the action was pritty good aswell. But the plot/story was so weak. i walked out entertained but it was just a nothing movie that i coukdnt care less about.

I couldn't disagree more, it was fun, funny, had heart. Way better than suicide squad by far. You can't compare joker to mainline dceu, this is meant to be cartoony and zany as told by Harley Quinn. The end credit is a nod to the harley Quinn cartoon on dc universe which is great. To each their own.

ray van krevel It’s past being hype. Well written, well acted, great cinematography and now rewarded for it. True it’s not technically in the DCU but that’s because WB was scared to release that kind of film. It is however their most profitable film to date. Hope you enjoy the movie!

The “All Men are Bad” Troupe ruined it for me, especially when that was that main plot of film in my view. And I noticed it was okay for Harley to commit all these violent acts without any repercussions. Cause woman.
