I’m obviously delighted to see us hosting the elite of Europe at Villa Park. I envisaged that Bayern would have a higher percentage of possession during the game, although it was even in terms of having the ball in the final third of the pitch, which meant we had to compete in midfield. What we did without the ball was just as important as what we did in possession of it. I knew we were going to exploit your keeper’s decision to roam so far off his line, especially with the introduction of Duran. The one player who has both the mindset and ability to punish Neuer for exposing Bayern to an unnecessary threat. Our keeper, in contrast was a huge factor in determining the outcome, which could have gone either way. Bayern have always been the club that has had my support in hoping they will win the CL, as I admire their ethos and commitment to continuity and recognition of their former players. The extent of how much this victory meant to Villa fans is not entirely due to our return amongst the elite of European football and the realisation of how far we’ve come in recent years, but also serves as a compliment. The acknowledgment and respect we have for a club such as yours and its undoubted pedigree and stature is evidently a contributing factor. UTV.
