You are NOT going to believe this.... We explored 9 mile canyon a day after you released this video and we SAW THE DEER WITH A BROKEN LEG ! It was grazing in a field with about 30 other deer. We're releasing a video about our trip through the area today but unfortunately we didn't get the deer on video. I should've turned around and filmed it but we were tired and hungry and ready to get back to town. Just thought you'd appreciate that the deer seemed ok (for the most part).

In Denmark there is a service you can call, if you hit a deer, so a hunter will come (with his dog), and track the injured deer and ultimately shoot it to end its misery. Denmark is a small country with many deer, so it’s a problem in many areas. And there are seasons when you are adviced to drive in the middle of the road (when there is no other traffic obviously), in order to react faster if it comes from one of the sides of the road. It’s just super bad luck, but good thing nothing happened to you or the car after all.

True story. My uncle shot a deer up northern BC & went to put it in the back of the truck to find a small cougar in the back. They emptied their toolbox and somehow caught it in their toolbox - and then left the tool box out the back of the truck while they went back for the rest of the deer. When they got back - the tool box was gone. As they drove home at the next bend - there was an SUV with American plates upside down off the road - apparently the occupants helped themselves to the tool box and one of them opened the box as they drove along to check out the loot they had recently acquired ….

When you hit a deer over here in Northern Europe we call 112 (that's 911 in European) and tell the police what's happened. They will then ask you to click a link in a text message that will send your exact location to them and they will then dispatch a local hunter to track and take down the wounded animal.

We don't have that "official" direction in Oregon, but if the police can get there soon enough, they used to load the dead deer in their vehicle and take it to the state prison to be butchered for prisoner meals. I'm not sure they do that anymore though, prisoners have become pretty choosy lately ... Oregon's roadkill rules are relatively simple. For starters, skunks, raccoons and possums are off limits. Only deer and elk can be salvaged. After a motorist strikes a deer or elk, or finds one hit by another vehicle, they can salvage the animal. I think people complain that others hit deer "on purpose," in order to get the meat out of season or without a permit, but that's a pretty expensive way to buy meat!!! Deer or elk can cause HUGE and expensive damage! If the deer is alive and still visible at roadside: Doing so may cause it to run across traffic causing another accident. Do not move or handle live deer, this needs a trained specialist. Call the Police.

regarding the deer.. in our neck of the woods, (southern oregon coast area) when deer are out in mid day .. there usually is something wrong with them... but that said, that long road may have so little traffic ... it might be normal. That said, I have used the two deer whistles on the front of my vehicle stuck in a relatively safe spot (not out on top of the bumper) ... and they have worked. They hear a whistle coming from a long way off and you can see them turn their heads etc. Some say they don't but I have really noticed... that said, dawn and dusk is still something to be careful when driving.

We needed to bee-line to Salt Lake City (3 days) and then find a place to regroup before we push on to Moab. We ended up at Castle Gate RV Park, and then took the drive to 9 Mile Canyon. We got lunch at Balanced Rock and then breakfast a couple days later. Their food is brilliant! So is the food at Helper Brewery, and the beer is good too. This town is really a neat little hidden gem that we would not have found were it not for your video! We ended up extending our stay a night because the winds between Helper and Moab were gusting above 50 and we did not want to drive in those winds. Great little place! Great recommendations! And we shared the link to your video with several locals in town. They were very appreciative!

Living in a Roman town in the UK, where Roman walls are still easily visible all over the place, that are 2000 years old, and in Fishbourne there are remains of a Roman palace with intricate mosaic floors still intact. The Carrollton Bus Crash is one of the worst bus crashes in American history. There was a group of students from KY that took a day trip to Kings Island in Cincinnati, OH. They were hit by a drunk driver on the way home, and very few students on the bus survived. There‘s a sign on the way to and from Louisville to Cincinnati, at the site of the bus crash, that reminds drivers of the horrible event. It gives me cold chills every time I pass. I have got two deer in that same area to and from college and it was an awful experience, and that was just me hitting a deer and surviving. Can’t imagine what the students that lost their life felt like in that horrible place.
