Our van is FREEZING...24 Hrs to find & fit a DIESEL HEATER!

If you've followed our videos over some time, you'd have been aware of our on-going issues with a rather temperamental Truma Combi Boiler in our van conversion.
Error codes are a regular occurrence and despite many resets, this time we lost ALL heating overnight as temperatures plummeted in the frozen Peak District.
An emergency plan was hatched to drive across the country to try and get a diesel heater fitted within 24 hours and save our Winter travel plans.

Diesel heating is what almost all truck use as an auxiliary heater for over nighting in truck stops and laybys so its the better option in my opinion

Diesel heaters are pretty good mate, they’ve had diesel heaters in Artic lorries for years and they very good. 😊😊

Hi guys. I've been watching your vids for months & just realised I hadn't subbed. Sorted now. I used to have a Talbot Express, which I travelled all over in. I really miss it. Heating was a bit of an issue though. I had to keep getting up & turning the cooker on for 5 minutes to get some heat in the winter. Still beat the old tent hands down. Happy travels. 😀

It would be possible to swap the truma for a diesel version, as the new ones use the same round vent as the gas versions. Then all of your heating would be diesel and cooking on gas will mean your gas bottle lasts months.

Yeah, we did consider that option BUT the cost was eye watering just to dump out the 2 year old LPG Truma. This way was cheaper and gave us two different heat sources to work with in the future 🥰👊🏼

Thanks for the video. I’m considering this myself. Where did they mount the heater, inside or outside the van…? Btw, I was looking for your video when you did the battery upgrade. Can you remember which one that was or do you have a link please 👍🏾

We’re so pleased with ours. The actual plastic unit fan bit is under the bed in our ‘garage’ area with all the pump & fuel lines etc, outside, underneath the van. The original plan was to put the fan unit under one of the front seats but I have the factory van electrics in there and they couldn’t pass through all that to tap into the fuel tank. You’ll see the battery upgrade on the ‘Nightmare at Vanlife Festival 22’ video, about 6 months ago. It was Energy Monkey that sorted that 🙌
