Do mountain lions qualify as "nature", because they slaughter deer, bears eat fish ALIVE, among other examples. Chimps tear the reproductive organs off competiting males in fights. Do plants not quality as "life" because they lack eyes and ears? The flesh of the fruit is to protect the seeds, who says its for you to eat? If you want to live in your idealistic version of "harmony", you will have to starve to death, because in order to eat, you are stealing life from something, plant or animal. And I bet your the hypocritical kind who disregards all the facets of your life that harm nature indirectly. All the places you shop, place you live, every single industry that is tied to your purchases and actions heavily harm nature.

I used to work in a 600 acre industrial park. There were about 50 assorted businesses in the park ranging from offices to manufacturing and warehouses. When they first opened the park a number of hunters approached the owners and asked for permission to hunt on the property since it was about 90% undeveloped woodland. It seems the owners didn't take kindly to the idea. The following week a notice went to every business and there suddenly were signs all over the property. Hunting and fishing was officially prohibited from the property and the signs warned that poachers carrying fire arms within the industrial park would be assumed to be there to commit violent crimes and could be subject to preemptive defense with deadly force. Well of course the police made them change the signs because basically they meant that hunters carrying guns would be shot dead on sight. I know some might find such signs over the top and maybe they were a bit but the point was made. In the nine years I worked there about 30 would be poachers were arrested. Meanwhile, the speed limit was reduced to five miles an hour in the park with speed bumps installed all over. Some people complained but I think it was worth it. Hardly a day went by that I didn't get to see deer wandering around the industrial park and many people including me got out of their cars for a closer look. While for the most part the deer tended not to approach humans, many did and often enough that it happened to me several times. A group of us got permission from the owners to plant juniper trees which deer seem to like. I spent a lot of time sitting in one spot taking pictures. But deer wasn't the only wildlife there. We had a lot of turkeys, owls, bald eagles, and a handful of relatively rare birds visit the park. The owners also installed a 20 acre man made lake to attract waterfowl. That was definitely a nice addition. The year before I moved out of state I got together with a few others who worked there and created a butterfly/hummingbird garden of just under an acre.

I'm from the San Francisco bay area and we've had deer coming through my parents back yard almost every day since they bought the house 50 years ago. Never tried to touch one but they don't get to scared when I'm working in the yard around them. We have Bobcats, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, skunks, raccoons and now mountain lions are coming into town. I have seen a mountain lion once and my dad has seen 2 different ones. Another guy that worked for my dad actually was in a small yard with a mountain lion and watched it jump out of a tree onto a large buck and then climbed an 8 ft fence with it in it's mouth and that was the same mountains my parents house is on. Just a couple months ago a 6 year old was attacked by a mountain lion a little south of San Francisco. The last 20 years animals have started coming down into town more than ever. Coyotes and turkeys were never seen and now they are everywhere. Pretty sure people were hunting a lot 40 years ago so I think the animals around here are not seeing humans as a threat anymore. I see missing cat posters everywhere. Cats used to be hanging around anywhere outside less than 10 years ago but now they are less seen than the coyotes and the turkeys. One of my friends was walking her dog on a trail close to town and 2 coyotes came up to her and her dog and started biting at them and she had to swing the plastic ball launcher she had at them while she backed down the trail for a good minute. I've seen pack's of them and heard at least 15 to 20 different ones howling and barking at night surrounding my parents house in every direction. I guess they all have a part in nature but it's getting a little too close when small children aren't safe anymore.

@DrCruel9 жыл бұрын
She's right. The special essence is ample food and a lack of predators. You can find the same essence in our urban slums, where ample food, government checks, economic discouragement for productive work or traditional marriage, and a lack of predators led to a population explosion of bastards. Nature does balance itself, however. One day those old hippy farts will die, and then some local wolves or coyotes will have Rosie and Yoda for a quick meal. As for those slums, they are already filling up with predators. Once all the bastards have looted their local convenience marts and stores for goodies, their sources of food will dry up. Once the kleptocratic socialist apparatus they depend on for sustenance dies, they will either move on to greener pastures or die off right along with it. It's already happened in Detroit.

When you think about it....it does not take long to realize that it's quite disturbing to know that they are hunted.

Not really. I think it's more disturbing that they get mauled to death in the wild by bears and wolves.

@Vincenzio VonHook Yup. And I don't think they understand that the animal being shot and it dying peacefully by a human is the best death it can get out in the wild.

meh, I think the meat industry is far, far worse. deer are adorable and smart, but are also food. we are predators. life sucks. other predators are far, far worse. I can't imagine being ambushed by a grizzly or a jaguar and mauled to death.
