Welcome aboard! We try to show it as it really is, and not romanticize it. We are very forthright with how expensive being a full time tourist is. Both partners must be onboard with the decision and on the same page. They need to work together and actually really, really like each other! Then,........a successful full-time RV Life will follow!

We so agree with you on Rving vs B & B;s or Hotels....We like the convenience of having everything in our tiny or not so tiny motorhome always with us. Interesting bird do do.....

We feel the same way about staying in a hotel. We stayed in a hotel for 5 days while we were getting our RV fixed. It was so horrible. We wanted our own bed and sheets. Also, we had to eat out every night. All I wanted to do all week was make a sandwich from our fridge. Lol. We disliked it so much, we toyed with the idea of getting a class B for our Towed vehicle just so we would never have to be without our home again. After full timing for almost a year, I don’t think I can ever go back to living in a sticks and bricks ever again.
@OurJourneyInMyles3 жыл бұрын
The Class B tow vehicle has crossed my mind as well. I am surprised you don't see that more often! I agree with the desire just to have a simple sandwich and soup,........NOW! Getting a home again will be strange,......and it will be half the size of our last one, or less.

When I was in Monteray in 2010 I hummed and hawed to whether I should go to the aquarium. It was $35 entry and $15 for parking. Of course, my Scottish heritage kicked in and just could not justify it, especially when converted to Canadian dollars. I think in the back of my mind I said I go next time. There are better odds that Santa gets a tattoo and joins a biker gang than me returning to Monteray before I die. Not the first time I have blown an opportunity I will never have again. By the way, the aquarium is one of the best in the world. Forward-thinking displays and exhibits happen here first and then they are copied around the world. I did go to the Boeing plant in Everet, Washington which required stalling my trip and trying to find accommodation for the night as I had missed the last tour. They should have paid me, it was just a big hangar with planes being made not worth the effort.

@@OurJourneyInMyles That is one of the primo ways of touring a place. No worries, just enjoy. I like travelling but I generally find the return visit to a destination more enjoyable. Since I know the lay of the land already, there are just less decisions to make and thusly less to stress about. Plus I also have all the positive feelings/memories from the previous visits to quell any anxiety that one might feel. I guess that is one of the reasons that some people enjoy owning a cabin/cottage. A return to the known. The lack of being an a explorer (still a timid one) of new places would bore me.

Can Ray stop by our home in Arizona and push us over the edge towards the RV life? It’s a difficult decision, the “security” of a house with its endless storage and constant maintenance. Or what’s down that road, it may be interesting.
@OurJourneyInMyles3 жыл бұрын
My advice would be to keep your house if you like the area, and want to live their into your declining years. Use the house as home base, and sort of as a storage locker. You can only be full time with a good plan to keep the house in one piece. In our case, WI was going to be too cold and gloomy. We sold the house and parked the money in the bank. We own our rig and cars outright. You have to have the finances to switch from one life to the other,......AND BACK.

What friends dont realize is that every night for 365 days a year you are travelling as full time. So it isn't like you are going for a two week vacation where you can splurge on the five star hotels etc. This is life. You bought a Class A which was probably as expensive as a small home and your costs are equal to what you would spend running and living in that sticks and bricks year round, only you get the luxury of a new backyard every week and exciting places to see instead of the same four walls.
@OurJourneyInMyles2 жыл бұрын
We have been full time since June of 2017. We wouldn't change our decision to do this,......and we would still have bought Newmar. This life has gotten crazy expensive, and we will be publishing an update to our "Cost to RV" spreadsheets in a few months. The old "no such thing as a free lunch" is definitely true,....but life is short, especially when you are closer to the finish line. We are going for the adventure while we still can.

There’s a difference between vacationing for a few weeks a year and touring the country full time lifestyle. Most people do not have the means to tour the country full time in a 5 star hotel for years on end. They’re missing the point. The last time I checked, there are no 5 star hotels in the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yellowstone, etc… I can’t think of a better way to see and experience the country than in an RV. 5 star hotels are overrated. Have you traveled the length of Hwy 1? The combined expense of depreciation, maintenance, and up keep would be less than a 5 star hotel over equal periods.
@OurJourneyInMyles3 жыл бұрын
Very well said Road Hog. I loved the comment about a 5 star hotel not being near Death Valley and Yellowstone. It really is about how much you want to spend on the experiences you will have if you CAN afford it,.............and weather or not it will bother you when your 80 and you can no longer do it.
