Amazing video, I’ve currently been helping to design my nieces (5 years old) bedroom into part active sensory room for her ADHD side and then a safe space calm side for her ASD side when she needs a safe space or just a place to wind down. We got a sit n spin as she loves spinning, a jumperoo it’s similar to a trampoline, and a net swing which she can use as a hammock to calm as she loves swings but you can change the hook to use it for spinning as well. spinning is a big stim for her. She loves slime and baths so we use Gelli baff with her they do loads of different types and you can make it as slimy as you want if she’s having a very full on day we put it in a small pop up paddling pool for her to go in and out of. To help her calm we got a body sox, it’s really similar to the material for the bed compression sheet but makes a really good portable calming space and comes in all sizes, we got a projector for her to watch that does similar to a lava lamp effect, a disco ball and spot light, and led strip lights around the top of the room so she can choose a less harsher colour for her room if she’s feeling overwhelmed. Oh we also got a pea pod kinda bean bag which are really good for pressure and sitting in, and the last thing that comes to mind as you said about vibration is we got a vibrating massage mat that you can lay on or put on a chair and sit on but not one with the knobbly bits that go up and down it only vibrates. With the weighted blankets you may find it’s not heavy enough or too heavy if your using same weight for both boys as I think it’s meant to be 10% of the body weight, but not 100% sure but I no you’ve probably researched/looked into that already so sorry if repeating what you already no. The stuff you got for the boys is amazing though! Very jealous! Great job mama.

You're so sweet and understanding with your kid's quirks; it's so amazing and just fills me with warmth and happiness ^^ I deal with a lot of serious mental health issues and quirks, and I'm only 15. I'm in the early stages of schizophrenia and there's a huge chance that I'm on the spectrum or am an Aspie. My family is very neglectful when it comes to my problems and it just makes so happy and glad that there are amazing parents like you still out there!!! Thanks for being so awesome to your kids, they have an amazing mom :)

I thought about what you said, one of your sons just walking aimlessly. I've got some autism. And when I lul about looking empty headed I could be looking at the shape of clouds and think about what winds would form those clouds and how the landscape could look to produce steam in that certain way. Or I might add an own made melody to a song that I'm remembering. Could feel how the fluids in my body shifts with every step. There's a lot of sensory stimuli outdoors as well - Just one step makes air pressure shift over your entire body. What I'm trying to sugar coat is this : If your son's contempt, don't push yourself too hard to make him do things. It can be hard to notice with autism, but engaging someone in building blocks might well take their focus from theorizing up a new kind of magnet, or help give someone the basis of how the physical world works.

That stuff all looks awesome! My 4 year old would love all of it. She like Lex LOVES sensory balls and squeezing. We love kinetic sand but we recently discovered “floof”! Which has become a new favourite , especially great this time of year for snow themed play. We like to add things to our slime/ sand/foam, etc to expand the play like little plastic animals or characters or scoops , cups , tweezers for scooping and pouring play. As for storage we use the bins like you have and have them stored underneath the activity table when not in use (for things like duplo, playdoh, wooden train set (I’d love to have that set up full time but we just don’t have that sort of space where we live!), wooden building blocks , kinetic sand) I have her sensory balls in a bag but it doesn’t really have a home , I think I’ll get a tub for them like you have and give them a place to live.

My boy Ben is a sensory seeker. He is very much like Lex. I got a Simply Board a while back, intending to use it to workout, but Ben uses it to spin. He’ll sometimes spin on it for 20 minutes with very little breaks. I always encourage him to stim, as long as he’s safe while doing so. 💙 I got mine at Marshall’s for half the price that it normally costs.

Sorry for commenting late, but if there's enough room in the sensory room, I would highly recommend a sensory swing, like a cuddle swing or net swing. I think a sensory swing would help Lex because from what I can see in your videos, he is very hyperactive and I think swinging would help him with his hyperactivity. He might still be hyperactive even when he's older. If you can't fit a sensory swing in the room, what about a sensory chair? They also have chairs that help with hyperactivity. Hope I helped!

Changing out the lightbulbs for ones that are dimable and change color might help you when you want to use it as a calm down area. I have these ones, there way cheaper than philips hues as $19-$25 dollars for a pack of four and come with four remotes but you only need one to control them all so you get 3 extras. www.amazon.com/Yangcsl-Light-Bulbs-Equivalent-Changing/dp/B07KS9QGM2?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&th=1&psc=1 Having some toys that change color slowly or a projector nightlight might also be a relaxing type of stimulation.

Will the play room be where all the stuff goes? The thing under the steps seems to small for everything? Random how is liam 2 next month 😱
@OurLANDingCrew85 жыл бұрын
Yes, so there's an area in the play room that we will be using for the trampoline, swing, and the things that mount on the wall. A lot of the stuff we are storing and taking out as the kids want to play with them because if not, it would end up becoming a mess fast but the peanut ball and "see inside" balls along with some foam blocks I forgot to show LOL go in the playroom because Liam plays with those every day.
