I have been following your channel now for a very long time and I’ve got to tell you you are an inspiration to me. I am legally blind myself. My husband is almost totally blind. He had an allergic reaction at 10 years old to a medication which caused him to lose his eyesight and I was just born this way. We have five children between us. All of them are grown and out of the house now except for one. I tell you that to say that it doesn’t matter if you can see or if you can’t. You can lead a very very normal life provided you have all of the services and training that you need in order to help you do so. You are an exceptionally strong woman and I applaud you. You are an inspiration to me like I said and I can tell you love your kids. Keep it up mama.

It causes so much uncertainty that there isn’t more that could be done medically. I was born with similar situation. It breaks my heart that they still haven’t figured this out. Praying for your little one to get the help she needs and for all the children. But know something for certain. She is stronger than you think and everything falls into its place. you are doing a great job as parents to get her the care that she needs. 💖

Thank you for explaining the difference between legal blindness and total blindness and how rare total wine was actually is. I spend more time doing that, because I do identify as a blind person, but I do have some vision. Sometimes it’s just easier to call a spade a spade. Glad you have talked to people and will be able to get her a functional vision assessment soon.

Toddler eyes can be so frustrating! We tried patching for youngest, and he couldn't tolerate it. His eyes are often "stuck" looking outward due to CP (officially called bilateral exotropia) and he prefers to use peripheral vision for everything. He wore glasses every waking hour from infancy to age 5. PreK and the beginning of Kindergarten he had vision accommodations because he couldn't see what was on the iPad (it had to be projected to a TV for him to see). We did a round of VT (vision therapy) at 4 yo, which was ok, and didn't help a lot except that it helped us understand more what he was experiencing. Then at 5 and a half, we started an online VT that IS working and has made such a difference. Hoping he continues on this route. Hang in there and keep being an awesome mom and looking for those possibilities...! I feel for you with the vaccine too. I had a 102 fever after the first one!

I took care of a totally blind lady. She sees nothing. But she had something training that she functioned very well. She cooked, she also had a series of dogs that really helped her. When I came into her life she was getting pretty old so she had to gave help with house cleaning and with c,other shopping. We put her outfits together in the closet so she was always well dressed and coordinated. She listened to the television, to audible books and read brain and could type brain. I did her basic bank reconciliation and helped her fill out forms. But on a day to day basis she did well on her own. She could make the bed, she could pour milk into a glass if the carton was not too heavy. She bought quarts, not half gallons. She maintained her apartment pretty well her a elf and only needed h er lp with touching things up or chasing dog h as irvfrom her seeing eye dog. She had been a teacher of other blind people and had v earned her living. She took flute v lessons. All in a ll, she was very functional, loved concerts and going out to eat. She had a full and complete life and was happy. Her biggest problem was finding seat protectors and where the toilet paper was when in a bathroom that wasn't her own. My job was to help her walk the dog so she did not have to bend over to smell for what was left behind to clean up after her pooch. I wish all dog owners were as concerned. I he,per put away her clothes so she knew what to wear together. I helped her shop for food because I could gage quality of produce and price compare. I drove her where she needed to go. Sometimes we went to concerts and plays together. I would not worry too much about Nelly because she will probably be eligible for an assistant given her problems and she we ill get along xwell as my lady did with some help. She had c a good life, as I said before.

It’s called ORIENTATION AND MOBILITY. Not cane training. But I’m glad you are in contact with professionals who work with people who are visually impaired. I retired from being an Orientation and Mobility Specialist after 34+ years. She so cute! Just FYI I’ve never had a student who lost such significant vision from strabismus to need to use a cane or O&M for that matter.
@OurLANDingCrew83 жыл бұрын
Many in the blind community refer to it as cane training, I knew there was probably a technical term but I am definitely new to ALL of this. I actually know someone who is legally blind that her vision issues started out as strabismus and now at 19 has a cane and is in the process of getting a guide dog, of course with Nellie she has more going on than just strabismus. The only reason we want to get in touch with the blind institute is so that we can monitor her vision progress or decline and have all the correct accommodations. I definitely don't think that is something she needs right now and hopefully doesn't need in the future but IMO, it's always better to be prepared than be caught off guard!
@bconsilio37643 жыл бұрын
@@OurLANDingCrew8 sure! And I commented that it was a good idea! The community that you are connecting with is probably NFB based. There are 2 schools of thought/ways people ‘lean’ in the world of visual impairments. I want to remain politically correct, so I will not weigh in there. The only thing I will say is that there are strong feelings on both sides!! I wish you and your daughter all the best! Information Is Power on all sides of the debate!

I don’t think it’s always you need a soft drink, it’s more like you want fast food (preferably Del Taco). Idea: to help with the fast food runs while on the road, try buying (or put together your own...haha time needed for that) some sort of snack packs to grab as you hit the road. So those cheese, lunch meat & cheese packs. Perhaps keep crystal light packs in the van to flavor your water? Obviously if it’s a reward for a child doing well on their doctor visit that’s different.
@OurLANDingCrew83 жыл бұрын
I love this idea!!!
@hayleymarse28533 жыл бұрын
My family always does that too! We usually all pick certain snack foods we like such as ritz bitz, mixed nuts, red vines, etc and each person gets a bag to last the trip and then we have some fruit in the car for everyone. We usually buy a package of water at Costco and sometimes get fun stuff like Sunny D. When my siblings were younger, my mom would pack things like no mess coloring books and other small toys and books. Now that they are older, it’s usually just a sketch book, deck of cards, and mad libs (Most members of my family have food issues/allergies so we eat pretty healthy at home so road trips are fun food)

This is just me be paranoid, but have they done a CT scan of her brain? When my daughter was three she had started developing her eyes drifting and they referred us to an optometrist. We ended up taking her to the ER and discovered she had brain/spinal tumors. I know you're a great mom to all your kiddos and I'm not trying to tell you what to do by any means. I just heard "drifting eyes" and freaked out. I'm sure they have done one on her sometime but I just couldn't continue my day without asking lol. Love your videos and your content so much!
