We lived in Osaka Japan for 4 years with 4 kids. You can talk on the train quietly when your with friends and family. But never on your phone…so rude. Other advice, never eat on the train. You only eat at the place, stand, restaurant you are visiting. So different than the states! But the kindest most obedient people ever! Judah will love it! And the safest place I’ve ever lived in, no worries for Judah’s safety.

Sarah for your laundry area you could put a rod across the top and get some cute curtains or make your own. Just long enough to just sit above the top of the washer and dryer. That way you can close them and not have to deal with bulky doors. It hides all your stuff. My laundry room is off my living room and that is what I have done to hide all the stuff on shelves.

On our farm (also in Nebraska), we go through the garage door because the flies are not as thick. You will really need to be diligent when the weather cools as they will try hard to get inside. Also, during that time, I vacuum the flies (at the windows) instead of swatting to help with the mess. It’s so fun to watch you learn the farm/country life. I think God made us to be driven to produce our own.

The best thing that the builder did so I wouldn’t have flies come up through the floor was to place screening under the floor boards. It is wonderful! If you can get up underneath your porch, get your boys to roll screening underneath and nail it tightly.

Great idea and short of that, shredding the Irish Spring and tossing it under the deck will not only eliminate flies but mitigate any other critters that might try to find their way under there.

I can relate to what your dad said about not talking on the train in Japan. When my sister, her husband and I visited their son and his family at a US Naval base near Tokyo, we got so many looks from people when we were on the train. At first, we thought it was because her husband and son are over 6'5". Then we realized it was because we were talking on the train! One of the craziest things we experienced on the trains in Japan were the "pushers", who had the job of pushing as many people as possible into each train car before the doors closed. Ask your dad about it; he probably experienced it himself.

I love watching your videos and the seeing updates on fitting everyone/everything into your home. What about building in benches along both window walls like a banquette for your table? That way you could scoot your table into the corner against the benches and not lose seating, but gain some floor space near your doors? Then you wouldn't have to move your table back and forth during the week, just leave it in one place!

Take some of the under-penning out from under the deck and check under it. If you have something under there get some odor- out or lime to cover it or take it out. Vinegar and dawn in a shallow bowl will kill flies if they land in it. Letting kids get drinks (sweet lemonade, etc) will just draw more flies.

A quick bit of information for you regarding the fly traps you have is if you are not wanting the fly's on the deck you need to move the fly trap further from the deck as the solution is what attracts them in. We had a fly problem here where we live in Australia when we had puppies and yes we placed them right at the back door then hubby worked out if he moved them further out in the yard no more fly's on our deck or in the house. We took off of our bedroom closet doors and hung up curtains. They push nicely to the sides or you can put a long nail or a curtain holder hook inside the closet so you can just grab the curtain and hook it over to get them out of the way. Works really well and you don’t have to see anything when you don’t need to get in there. A tension rod for a shower works well for this. The baskets look really cute though!

Incase you didn’t know, I believe those fly traps are actually bait, so they attract the flies. You may want to position them away from seating areas and the door. Also, I’ve seen a laundry area similar to yours where they removed the folding doors and replaced it with a decorative curtain that they could tie back for easy access. You could use a curtain rod or tension rod.

Another Thing To Help With The Flies Is To Have Your Husband Move The Grills Away From The Door, Otherwise They Will Still Be Drawn To That Area 💗 I Lived In The Country Also & You Learn Little Tips & Tricks. If You Get A Lot Of Nats In The House Or Around The Door The Cheapest Way To Get Rid Of Them Is To Get A Coke Bottle Or Another Kind. Add Water 1/3 Of The Way, Then Add About 2 Tablespoons Of Dish Soap & Last 2 Tablespoons Of Apple Cider Vinegar. Shake Well (keep the lid) & Set It Away From The Food Like The Top Of The Fridge or Other Side Of The Porch. It starts working right away, every couple of days put the lid on & shake it up so the vinegar smell comes out. You can empty it as often as you like & reuse the same bottle. Make as many or as few as you need, we usually have at least 2 in our kitchen because of the back door. But we had the same problem & once the grill was moved it made a huge difference, because weather you know it or not when you're cooking outside food drops & will even go through the cracks. This also will help with the flies inside. If you see that the soap looks like it's starting to get solid then put the lid on & shake it up. But always rinse the lid because it will attract them. Just try to keep it away from your little love's 💕 outside you can use a tack like w/ the flies & put it on a tree or hang it on the post.

Take a quart size ziplock bag, put a shiny penny in it, then fill with water a little more than half way. The make a small hole in the center of the bag just underneath the “zip part” and nail on the inside and outside of the deck. The flies are “scared” of the penny! Sounds WIERD but it works! Lots of restaurants here in Texas use them. I was killing like 50-60 a day. We keep our trash can at the back door so I can open the door and reach the trash cans. I am disabled. My kitchen is right there. I tried all traps and this did the trick! I still get one or two.

I would forget how we must have looked until we would notice people staring or a cashier or waitress didn't think I was with the family when we were to be seated or I'd throw some things on the conveyer belt to be rung up. We just laughed. We still do. P.s. it could be something as small as a mouse dead under your porch. Kodak memories
