I feel that we've been asked essentially to live "in Zion" spiritually first, in preparation for it to be built physically. These last few years President Nelson has been pushing us to elevate our lives. Ministering, Comefollowme, letting God prevail, the covenant path... it all is spiritual preparation for what physical zion will be.

The body and the spirit are to work together in harmony and tea, coffee, alcohol and tobacco are all addictive and break down the will. Daniel’s ability to know the meaning of the king’s dream was directly related to the cleanliness and health of his body. His choosing simple meals which were not the kinds of foods which create a glutton, were as delicious to his spirit because he was willing to let God prevail in his life. Choosing simple foods which nourish us rather than simply delight our palates, helps us keep the most important commandments, by taking our focus from temporal to spiritual.

Deb that is very profound. Great point, as we learn self mastery of the little things we are letting God prevail!

The Lord said He will save his covenant people. Not a hair of the heads of the righteous will be harmed. We will be caught up to meet Him and then the destruction will commence.

I remember a story that materials for a temple for New Jerusalem have all been purchased...... was that one of the stories 'heard in an elevator"??? I guess we are all waiting for that day to come. I guess we shouldn't listen to stories but keep to scriptures. I am older than you so I have heard lots of stories over the years. Now I am glad to learn from the experts. :]

So, this is just an idea that has occurred to me and the only way to know for sure is to see it unfold, but my mind has snagged on the possibility that the kicking off point for the actual City of Zion might be the "coming down" of the City of Enoch. Perhaps. Food for thought 😉.

Love the podcasts!! Keep it up. If I may, I do however feel there is a little wresting of the scriptures here in regard to the judgments and how harsh they can be. I am of the opinion after prayer and personal revelation that if the merciful probationary opportunities of this estate are exhausted and a "just" God has judged the mortal wicked to be so hardened that they will not repent, part of His character is to be exactly that, be "just" and in some cases pass judgment and administer literal physical punishment even if it is just probationary (instructional and temporary) punishment on the children of men. As he says in Romans "vengeance is mine" and in D&C 121 in answer to Joseph's prayer in Liberty Jail he lists a harsh list of judgments that will come upon those that persecuted his "anointed." I think, if I am not mistaken, President Hickley had the historians of the church research the demise of many of the persecutors/their posterity including Gov Boggs and his posterity, and discovered that many if not all of those things happened to them. He then spoke of it in a talk in Nauvoo at a dedication if I remember right. His point was to show the fulfillment of the Lord's words and that He is a just God. Why is this important? In part, because those that have been abused need to know that if they turn their just petitions over to the Lord and rely on his promises to avenge them, they need to know that he is going to be just, not only merciful, if not, for those that are oppressed they can feel abandoned and that they are powerless like Joseph felt in Liberty Jail and their suffering may never end. Justice can deliver hope to the oppressed. And equally so, the wicked need to know they cannot escape their punishment if they refuse to repent and continue to abuse the innocent. Mercy will not rob justice, correct? It is not just eternal justice in some cases (and the seemingly increasing number of cases of the last days). The plagues of Egypt and their armies in the waters of the Red Sea? Deliberate or spiritual withdrawal? This passage in D&C 29 draws on that imagery. What about Laban? Very intentional. Sometimes in his wisdom, God smites. It would also seem that he wants to juxtapose the plight of the wicked against the safety and prosperity of Zion, whom he deliberately protects with visible cloud and a pillar of fire. From what I have been able to gather, fire often connotes judgment in holy writ. It would seem that in this case fire is meant to protect the saints as a threat to those that would attempt to destroy the saints in violence. Scripture also seems to suggest that God will give every chance to man to repent and because this is a probationary state and therefore it would not be just to not do so, but in my reading of the scriptures, again that judgment can be harsh in an active and overtly intentional and instructional way and it is not just the natural consequences or the withdrawal of the spirit affords the punishment in a natural and progressive way (which I agree is one way it is done). But in the end, hell has an exit, doesn't it? So it would have to be a very hard heart that would refuse repentance over a thousand years after they were smitten in mortality with mortal punishment and destruction don't you think? Just my thoughts. All the best and keep up the good work!!

Yes John our children and our church members need to understand that Satan is the real enemy. See The Scarlet and the Black movie with Gregory Peck on KZbin.

I think you are under rating Christ's role in the lives and hearts of his children that are not LDS. Non LDS know Christ, he knows them. They love one another.
