Idea for video title stolen from The Great War channel? They were doing “out of the trenches” 2014-18 and Indy does “out of the foxholes” on WW2 in Realtime
@henrik12204 жыл бұрын
I mean, the whole idea of this channel must be inspired by The Great War, everyone knows that. As long as this channel offers high quality content, i dont see the problem with the similarity. Although, they could have choosen a more unique name for this subseries.

@@henrik1220 What's the problem with the content put out by Cold War?
@Wustenfuchs1094 жыл бұрын
@@hoktauri No, but the OP points out to the clear copy of one of the channels. Out of the Foxhole and Out of the Trenches were two formats that Indie Nidel hosts, while sitting in a "Chair of Wisdom" not unlike this one in the "Out of the Bunker". Like in music, no one is bothered that you have A and C chords in your song, but when you have all the chords like another song AND in the same order played in the same way - people will react. Now, The Cold War might simply honor the inspiration for this format that Indy piloted - and that would be fine... if only they said a single sentence about it. Or maybe they work as a co-op now. But we don't know anything - we just see that one channel copies the other and we have no explanation for it. Because of it, naturally, we think that it is not simply honoring the other channel, or co-op, or any of that good stuff, but simply stealing a format and name someone else invented and popularized. And before you start screeching, no, it is not illegal, there is no law against it, but none the less, fans will react.

@@romelnegut2005 Maybe my english isnt good enough (im about to do the B2 exam) , but my point was that The Cold War channel offers high quality content, so we shouldnt blame them for getting inspiration from another high quality channels. If it improves this project, everyone wins.

You definitely should do book reviews, not loosely masked sales pitches though. Do a cliffnotes type coverage. People tend to worry they are spoiling something by getting into the meat of the book. I think it's quite the opposite. Give a solid 15-20 min with as much info as possible that stood out to you. No two people walk away from a read with the same perspective, sharing yours says as much about the reader as it does about the book. It's its own story. So tell it.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was never going to end the world if it went hot. People forget that we now know today what the US government and military knew during the Cuban Missile Crisis that the USSR only had 3 ICBMs at the time that could reach the US mainland. In addition to that the short range nukes being sent to Cuba were not setup yet. So the Cuban Missile Crisis could have lead to a very deadly nuclear war that would have largely affected the USSR and mainland Europe but it would not have lead to the destruction of the whole world.

As far as I know after the USSR disbanded, Russian and US nukes remained targeted at each other and still are now. They both have even upgraded their capability. Considering that, has the Cold War really ended? I see mention of Cold War 2.0. If it exists, I tend to think it is just a continuation of the last one. What changed in the world after WWII and the beginning of the Cold War? The USA became the most powerful country on Earth by quite a distance (the USSR was not an equal GDP competitor and even less so if we count the GDP of all NATO countries). The British and French Empires faded away. I read about a US doctrine called Full Spectrum Dominance. It requires the USA to dominate globally in every aspect of geopolitical, economic and military power. It not only seeks to undermine rivals, but specifically says that no potential rival can be allowed to emerge. It is a major driving force of US policy apparently. China appears to be the new target, but Russia remains in the sights too. My impression is the USA would like Russia sliced up like Yugoslavia was. Another thing I have thought about lately with these increased tensions is that we were lucky to survive the Cold War and should not presume we can survive another. But my concern is that in some US circles the Cold War is seen as a winning playbook to be deployed again if required. No thanks. I was a kid in England during the early 1980s. There was a few times at night I wondered if we were about to be nuked, because US jets would be racing off into the distance sounding much more urgent than usual. We knew full well that all those US bases near us were primary targets for nukes. After the film The Day After and a Panorama documentary about nuclear effects and blast radius, I remember us discussing among ourselves at school how we would die when it all kicked off, e.g., in fire, blast, or fallout. We expected it to happen someday, but hoped it would not. Riding our BMXs and playing football is what kids are supposed to do, not wondering about seemingly imminent fiery deaths. No thanks to ramping up for round two, but I think as long as the USA is determined to remain top dog and dominate, there will be these types of stand offs and dangers. Why dominate? The lion's share of capital generated in the world makes its way to Wall Street eventually. The USA has ways like IMF conditions to force countries to sell their assets to US investors in privatizations, as well as opening their economies to US investment etc. US capital is invested all over the world in huge amounts and its dividends do not remain in those countries. It is an empire of capital investments, protected by the largest armed forces and state apparatus the world has ever seen. It all depends on that domination. If another country emerges as a major financial center, countries can increasingly turn to that country and say no to the USA. In the US that is seen as very bad for business. P.S. We moved to NZ in 1985. Just after it became nuclear free and got in trouble with Uncle Sam for not allowing US warships in our waters. We were punished. Mass unemployment as our markets tanked etc. Hardcore Tory austerity too. It took several years to recover. I left Auckland to find work and worked at sea until recently. NZ definitely felt safer than the UK did. I understand why some countries would not want to give up their nukes though, e.g., North Korea. They see Iraq and Libya etc. But I prefer we remain nuclear free, as do most of us, even if the USA don't like it. Hobbits don't like fallout.

What I find disturbing with this series is that the cold war is treated like some kind of "historical wonder". Never is the necessary question raised, why did the cold war exist? It's aked regarding the first and second world wars, but never for the cold war. Why? Is it because the answer is that the cold war was fought because the worst ever dictatorship, the Soviet Union, got their hands on nuclear weapons? I fought the cold war in the military and for me, it was very clear and necessary to stop the Soviet Union to use their weapons of mass destruction, but I was pretty alone with this view.

Also, the "town nearest to Alaska" is _really_ hard to even reach (there's no road even going there, and no major one for several hundred kilometres of mountainous, freezing woodland and tundra. Building and maintaining a military base with that technology, was next to impossible, or at least a project of ginormous cost and effort.
