Clint takes you through all the different stages of rock tumbling. A video that took over a month in the making but the result at the end is worth the wait as Clint reveals beautiful banded chert, BIF banded iron and jasper.

Clint, great video, im surprised to see you doing one. Iv e pilished agates mostly for over 40 years. If you really want them to really pop, after the final polish, put sawdust, dishwasher deturgent and water and run them 24 hrs and rinse. It worked great for me, and the grandkids that usually went home holding their pants up from their pockets full of favorite rock. Keep the vids coming . Curbsurfer from Pasco, Washington State

There is a lot of waiting, but look at the beautiful turnout. 😊. Cutting the stones into more uniform shapes might help the process.😊

from this rockhound i love your set up. next stage is to cut the stones in half with a 4" trim saw, sand smooth and glue on a flat bail. add a chain or key chain and sell or give them away. good luck and have fun.

I see the flies and the beard came back and as for the cold I am sitting in Aileron NT waiting for all the bad weather to leave down south before continueing on, I put a notification in to the mining company and the station/pastoral lease in the area I wish to do some fossicking on but as per usual there has been no reply, in the NT we consider no reply permission to enter the area you may want to fossick on, there are so many people wanting to fossick I can understand why the companies can not spend the time replying as it would take up a fulltime workers pay every week just to say, notification received, I had a chat to the security guard who is securing the one hectare area within 40 square kilometres of area and assured him I would not approach the work area or their equipment as I have no interest or need to approach that, he wasn't sure about fossicking so I said I would wait until monday so he could contact the company to see if I had actually notified them and to see if they would mind me pottering around an unused area twenty odd kilometres away from their site and work area, I had to laugh as I went to the pastoral leases gate and it said to report to the office before proceeding, there are no signs pointing to the office for me to attend so I emailed the head office in NSW, it is like the NT gov. doesn't realise how many hundreds of millions of dollars fossicking brings and could be expanded upon to bring into the territory, I have sat out at Margret Diggings and watch fifty odd vehicles a day enter into the area, most had tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment with them and that far surpasses the value that a pastoral company and probably a small mine can make in any given year and the money is spread over the entire economy, I would certainly make it a whole heap easier for people to come here fossicking, if you look up Strike NT gov. where all the information is supposedly stored I would change the programme so that if you clicked on the EL you were interested in it would show the mining company and pastoral lease information, email address for both and contact phone numbers then give you the option to automaticly click on notification then you would enter your details and send to both companies at the same time which would be an improvement to a novice computer user like myself. Back to rock tumbling, they did look quite good considering what you started with and you obviously go to work for the days in between or you would be bored out of your mind sitting there watching the tumblers turn and waiting for some progress to happen also with the cost of electricity you would need solar panels to drive these tumblers which you have already, on the subject of solar, I am going to probably buy a system when I get to SA Adelaide this year and turn my travelling van into the power generating van so all I have to do is run an extension chord over to my larger van I live in then I can travel out bush without having to run a generator or stay in van parks. I have been looking at the flexible solar panels and lithium iron ferrous batteries which can be found relatively cheaply on line if you click on the right manufacturer. Have a good day. Leon

Clint, The unwritten rule is 1tbsp per pound, so a 1 kilo (2 pound) tumbler only needs 2 scoops. Cerium oxide is expensive, what I have started doing is to save the old cerium slurry and seal in a jar, then when ready, add to the polishing stage with just 1 new scoop and it works great and saves money. P.S. who was the younger new guy half way through the video? LOL
