I think for onetts arcade one could also argue they sampled xevious ( the aracade game) main theme. You can hear it in the video arcade longplay [967] xevious. Also for Battle Against a weird opponent one has pretty similar intro to betty wright's song "Clean up woman"

The Store theme (Humoresque of a Little Dog) isn't When I'm Sixty-Four, but actually Dallas Rag played slower. Not an exact match, but much closer than When I'm Sixty-Four.

A lot of these actually feel like whoever has said that this is definitely where this came from is just going through the ost and finding something that sounds vaguely similar and saying "yeah this is definitely it". The Saturn Village theme sounds NOTHING like Wild Honey Pie.

@@wittykittywoes *then. a sample can either refer to a single datapoint in a digital audio encoding, or a range of data points in a digital audio recording. it can also refer to audio that was re-encoded or taken from some source, and then turned into digital data (like analogue mic -> mp3, or output from a DAW -> 16-bit PCM WAV). for something to be "sampled", it literally means you looked at the original audio and took a piece of it; you selected the data (the "samples") and copied them for re-use (confusingly, to create what is colloquially called "a sample"), the same melody or similar sound isn't a sample because it wasn't generated by copying or modifying the original audio.

@@colly6022 i beg you this, if a word is used so much to mean something more broad, is it valid? In the technical sense, yes these aren’t samples, but what else do you refer to musical motifs used in forms of media not originally meant for?

I don’t really like drama on this channel and while yes on a technical standpoint, it isn’t but like 90% of people wouldn’t understand the word motif so I have to dumb it down. That’s why I said “samples and inspirations” as I understand both sides of it.

Not necessarily, earthbound has more then 110 tracks, so there’s a lot of BGMs without samples/inspirations. Even then a lot of the musical inspirations and samples are used in a way to make original.
