In this video we look at some signs that you can see on the underground network in 2023 that show outdated logos or lines or incorrect information

yeah I've noticed on most Jubilee Line stations that the East London Line is still present on a lot of signs. You can also see a BR interchange at Canning Town as well, when the line used to be served by the North London Line. Also at Bank when changing from the W&C line, you can see a sign that says "Docklands Trains" with the second version of the DLR logo. Great video, I really enjoyed this!!

These signs are even kind of outdated as in sure that the line colour arrows stopped being used to show interchanges maybe in the early 2000s.

A great follow up would be errors present on these signs, such as at the start where 'Willesden Green' is visible on the Bakerloo line diagram at Embankment. I know there are several similar examples like this across the network

Finally, a video covering something I keep on noticing on the tube. You’d be surprised how many signs still use the old DLR logo! 🙂

Great video. I've always found it so strange that so many signs have never been updated, especially the JLE where they've stuck stickers on to show the Elizabeth Line, but have never bothered with the East London Line. One that wasn't included in the video was that there were a couple Central line diagrams that said the station was called Shepherds Bush Green, just a blatant mistake - there were one of these at Redbridge a couple years back, not sure if it's still there. A different one I've always found amusing is that a year after Wood Lane Station opened, the signs above the platform have been incorrect ever since as they only show the pink for H&C, no yellow for Circle.

I think the intention was to rename the Central Line station at Shepherd's Bush to Shepherd's Bush Green, and these signs were produced with Shepherd's Bush Green on them in anticipation of this. However, this didn't subsequently take place, as they decided to rename the Hammersmith and City/Circle Line station to Shepherd's Bush Market instead. I think the opening of the Overground Station near the Central Line station may have had something to do with this change of decision.

@ianmcclavin I've wondered whether that was the case. The signs I saw though predated the DLR or the W&C at Bank so many years before a name change happened at Shepherd's Bush

Great video. I think of this issue every day at Maida Vale station. Where they have covered over the old name of Trafalgar Square to Charring Cross except the font is inconsistent and the cover plate was installed off-centre! Wish I could fix it! Also I remember pre-2020 seeing some signs at Tottenham Court Road for “Crossrail” which had to be replaced to say Elizabeth Line.

at harrow-on-the-hill, they still show 'british rail' instead of national rail to show the connection to chiltern railways !!

On that same signs at least the one you may be mentioning it says Moor Park for BR which lost its service in 1993 after complaints and the introduction of Class 165 trains.

Aren't there some stations misnamed on a few signs? I seem to recall Willesden on the Jubilee line being misnamed perhaps at Green Park but may be wrong. Also, how about those tile patterns at Marylebone and Arsenal that show the original station name, far bigger and bolder than the standardized signs?

Also, I'm not sure if it's still there, but I remember at West India Quay, there was an interchange at Greenwich and Lewisham for "Connex", which was the old train company for SouthEastern. And at Greenwich itself, there seems to be an original Connex sign at the London end of Platform 1 that has the 2nd version of the DLR logo too

That sign was definitely there last year at West India Quay, even after they stuck a sticker on it for the Elizabeth Line.

I like the old remnants of the East London line across the network. Used to be my local line; it's like a part of history hidden in plain sight. I hope the TfL bods don't try and change things up when the heritage of the line gets bulldozed later this year. Also, if you want some more old signs, take a look at the platform wall diagrams on the JLE stations. Most of them haven't been updated in a long while - although they don't illuminate them anymore so it might be harder to spot!

In addition to 4:40 at Barons Court Aldwych can still be seen on display partly torn away, At Hillingdon up till a few months ago you could see Aldwych on proud display I dated the map around 1993.

When Surrey Docks station, then on the East London Line, was renamed Surrey Quays, brand new signs were installed a few weeks in advance with the new name, but with vinyl stickers with "Docks" on affixed over the word "Quays!!" These were peeled off on the day of the name change. The same technique was also used at Southgate tube station when it was temporarily renamed "Gareth Southgate" for a few dsys!

Also at Heathrow Central the underground signs still say Terminals 1, 2 and 3 yet the announcements have already changed to say terminals 2 3 and 5 or 4 and 2 and 3

A.J. Wells & Sons must be very busy with all the signs they make for TfL. Not only do they have to produce replacements for altered diagrams at almost every station, but also make the new signs for the new Overground line names.
