This is actually a perfect table for a stove. the top is aluminum, which reflects, rather than absorbs radiated heat. You can't scorch aluminum with the heat of a pan or even a dutch oven right out of the fire. It won't withstand huge side loads, but you can put a lot of weight straight down on it. Check the specs. On a level surface, I'll bet it could hold nearly 100 lbs. It won't be damaged by spilling hot liquids on it either. It will clean up easily. I don't recommend sitting on it. If you do, be careful to center your weight on it. any side loading, it will break the plastic collars, and it will collapse.

Would you put a Weber 14" Smokey Joe charcoal grill on it? Falling cinders a problem for the webbing joining the aluminum slats or the plastic parts?

No--it is aluminum--however, each table slate has plastic wrapped around it -- I just cut if off gently not to tear the elastic---

The design has changed for the better or worse. Assembly is easier, but poor QC makes parts fall off. Coleman doesn't offer any parts.
