Bushbucks are bovids that constitute the genus Tragelaphus, there are two extant species of bushbuck: the Northern Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus) and the Southern Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus), each species has seven recognized subspecies, the seven recognized subspecies of northern bushbuck are the Somali Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus fasciatus), the Arusi Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus meneliki), the Shoan Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus powelli), the Abyssinian Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus decula), the Sudan Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus dodingae), the Nile Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus bor), and the Harnessed Bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus scriptus), whereas the seven recognized subspecies of southern bushbuck are the Victoria Basin Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus victoriae), the Great Lakes Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus dianae), the Congo Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus phaleratus), the Chobe Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus ornatus), the Masai Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus massaicus), the Limpopo Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus roualeyni), and the Cape Bushbuck (Tragelaphus sylvaticus sylvaticus).
