Outdoor Snowmobile Storage Tips - Goodbye Temporary Shelters!

If you have to store your sled outside in a temporary shelter like the ones I bought from Shelter Logic, things like keeping rodents out, protecting against wind and moisture are always going to be a challenge. In this video I'll make some suggestions for dealing with those challenges, and show you the new solution I came up with!
Thanks Todd and Kyle from Sunset Contracting!

I too have a Shelterlogic. Its 4 yrs old and so far in good shape. In order to eliminate moisture from dripping from the ceiling onto my sled and ATV I cut a hole on each end of the shelter face and installed a vent that I can throttle open and closed. This allowed air circulation and presto, moisture gone. Also after the snowmobile season I put a baseball size of steel wool into the end of the exhaust to keep critters out. Works great.

Exactly correct. No matter how big you build a garage it is never big enough. I built a 30x44 garage back in 2005. Four sleds and three project cars later I could use more space. My two daily driver automobiles have to set out side. LOL

One tip I found to keep the sled off of the ground is to lay some wood pallets on the ground.. seems to help with moisture and dust.

The best thing I’ve found is mouse magic which is mint scented bags that you can put in various places. Beyond that I put steel wool in access points such as the exhaust and air box intake on the dash. Then, spray Grandpa Gus’s potent mouse repellent on the steel wool. 3 years of use and I’ve not found one sign of a mouse in any of my 4 sleds. Both products are available on Amazon

Good video and ideas, THANK YOU for posting!!! My only difference in opinion is the dryer sheets. I used Bounce dryer sheets all around inside and outside "storage comparments", my 34ft camper stored inside an enclosed clean cattle shed. I think they worked for a month or the mice hadn't found it yet. But on my second check of camper at around 60 days. The mice had picked up some of the sheets and built a nice cozy house in the silverware drawer and behind the hot water heater. So I know at least the Bounce dryer sheets are a NO-GO. If you know of a different brand that works I'd be willing to try them out. Cause a different brand probably has a difference in smell. Thanks and keep up the great informative videos!!!
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 2 жыл бұрын
There are a few brands I know of…Downy, Gain, Fleecy…In my opinion, theres nothing that will completely deter a determined rodent. You can slow them down, discourage them, change their behaviour, but nothing with completely keep them out. If they want in more than they dont like the smell, they’ll get in.

Great videos. Been watching for years. Currently have a 2000 Grand touring 500 and a 1976 Arctic Jag. Another tip for the temp shelters is to use a 3/4" length of pvc pipe slid through the pocket at the bottom of the door. This makes rolling up the door super easy and neatly stored. Cheers from Ontario!

My sled doesn't have an electric start so I have to pull start it but with the cold it is impossible to pull.The engine barely moves when pulling. Do you have any tricks? Maybe a video idea..
@MyOldSled

Oh da** that would have been a good one to shoot yesterday...it's been like that here as well (Im on the Bruce) and mine started ok. Some guys put a tarp over them and apply a heat source in a variety of ways which I quite frankly wouldn't recommend to anyone. I have a couple of ideas, let me noodle that one. I would always pull it over one or times sloooowwwly with the kill switch off first just to free stuff up and move some oil around.
