Stop this outdoor tap from leaking and wasting water, It's a job anyone can do - let me show you how.
I really don’t want to wrestle with it just trying to stop this outdoor tap from dripping, until now I’ve refrained from using this garden tap because it’s so hard to turn off tight enough to not leak.
But today we fix it, partly inspired by the fact that I’m installing a retractable hose reel next to it.
If you want to see how to Install a retractable hose reel on a brick wall click this link:
• What height do I attac...
The stuff and things I use, when clicked these links will take you directly to Amazon or an eBay site, InspireDIY is an Amazon associate/eBay Affiliate. Using these links does not impact the price in anyway for you, but InspireDIY may be able to earn from recommendations.
If budget allows, replace the washer with a brass tap washer rather than a plastic one, they definitely last longer in my experience amzn.to/3y6GQwT
If your tap has been leaking from the around the tap handle or the 'spindle', this is an easy fix, I'll show you how to change the o’rings using a repair kit amzn.to/3k6vQtZ
Poly grips/channellock pliers; amzn.to/2VWoZeF
Adjustable wrench/spanner or Shifter amzn.to/3y0YVft
O'rings; amzn.to/3jwAmDo
Fibre washers; amzn.to/3dv06MB
Tap lubricant; amzn.to/3jsrf6J
is the spindle seized? Try soaking it in this permeated super penetrant, It’s what I use. amzn.to/3IdzaPb
...And that’s a job well done, this is definitely a job you can knock off the list, its cheap and easy, no more drips and that saves water.

I think this video is the best video on KZbin , straight to the point and no wiffle waffle with “oh you could do this but if you do this you can possibly do this but don’t do this” or having to pause and repeat the same section of the video to understand what’s going on. I watched this video once and was able to fix my tap, I’ve come back to subscribe and leave this comment. I’m about to watch how to install the retractable garden hose and I’m kinda wishing I watched it before doing it on my own lol

Thank you so much. So easy to follow. My tap was leaking and I didn’t want to have to call a plumber for such a small job, plus I can’t really afford it right now. I watched your video, bought a new wrench and the Fix a Tap pack from Bunnings and my tap is now fixed and I’m feeling like I will actually be able to do more things around the house. I paid a small fortune to have a plumber install a new kitchen tap not that long ago but I watched your video on that too and I will be doing that myself next time. I really appreciate the straightforward videos that cover everything in such a short time 😊

Hey Naumanrahim, yes it’s most likely the O’rings, it can also be a build up of hard deposits like calcium causing it to be stiff, pull it apart, clean & lubricate, replace o’rings and valve(tapwasher), and it should be good as new! Best of luck 👍Kent

Recommendations if it’s just too tight and you cant unscrew it? Ive done one tap fine but snotger i have just wont hudge and all managed to do is ruin the spindle now that wrench wont grasp it properly. Wd40. Two wrenches and was trying to be careful. Thoughts? NEVER use Teflon tape on a tap body especially over first couple of threads, as it tends to tear while screwing in and pieces commonly get caught under washer. There is a few other reasons but would recommend just get the new red body washer every service. Always give the seat a grind with a re seating tool, flush outside the brass shavings. Think I need to make a how to video there is a lot to watch out for when servicing taps. If done wrong it can cost thousands in water damage and water bills.

why do people have outdoor taps to begin with?? Gardening? Landscaping? What a waste...to think that billions of people on this planet are given outdoor taps to play around with for their hobbies.

Hey Sheereen, that’s an interesting take on it 🤔 you may be right! I’ve never undertaken anything life changing with my outdoor taps, only watering new plants, topping up the pool, washing the cars and the boat, pressure cleaning, sandy dog rinsing, house window cleaning, washing paint brushes… and if you catch rainwater what a resourceful way to irrigate your property. Cheers for the comment 👍 Kent
