Everyone will probably laugh, but for my typical day to day of opening packages, and stuff of that nature, I've been carrying the OKNIFE Otacle U1, and I love it. When I leave the house, I carry a regular knife often, but at home, the axis lock utility knife, and a pack of 100 blades makes sharpening a much rarer thing to do. I have been house construction too, which it makes sense to use.

I carried Ganzo (or firebird now) FH31 with D2 steel and Ganzo F759M with 440C steel. The F759M slightly reminds me of Spyderco. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Czech republic.
@bgdwiepp5 күн бұрын
I've got a F759M and quite like it, although i do find the edges a little sharp on the touch points, its size and blade shape make it a great EDC, however the build quality and general finish on the FH31 are way better! I love the FH31, very nice knife, a great action, great value.
@qNeilq5 күн бұрын
@@bgdwiepp I'm not able to make the fh31 to a stable edge, like after few cuts it feels dull. Which feels odd due to d2 steel. Also harder to sharpen than 440C. And also d2 is prone to rust more. The f759M are made in 2 sizes, smaller and bigget (like spyderco). I found the smaller one cute

For the first half of the year, I carried a Kizer Yukon. I love the thumb hole for opening and the blade shape, but I decided I wanted something better than a liner lock, so I looked around and found the Kizer Dogfish, which has been great. I recently (today) learned about the Dogfish G10, which has green scales, my favorite color. So here I go again.

2014 Gerber paraframe (Boy Scouts) 2024 getting into knifes went with the Benchmade 945 Osborne mini Magnacut (hated the heat treat and thickness of the knife) researched harder knives that were larger. Initial hard buy but went with the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in S110V loved the knife it was a tad too big to look friendly but it cut great and was around the edge retention I was looking for. Black Friday I got my 3rd knife the Spyderco Chaparral XHP ( still to test and sharpen). That’s my 2024 wrapped

My daily carry for 2024 has been a K390 Police 4 and a K390 Endura with the Wharncliffe blade. I use them all the time for cardboard, paper and plastics. The part I love about K390 it that I have only needed to do one formal sharpening on these knives all year. Just some touch up on an Arkansas surgical stone has been all that I needed most of the time to keep them cutting nicely. When working outdoors on the property, I have K390 Enuff 2 which receives a little more abuse with cutting tree branches and cleaning up plywood cuts when doing some carpentry. That knife has needed to be sharpened twice, but the apex never chipped or bent over with the hard use. It is hard to go back to other steel after the great performance of K390 in 2024. 10V may be the next steel that I explore after this year of K390 exceptionalism.

Great video, thanks for sharing. For me, the Vosteed Raccoon top liner lock is the most carried regular pocket knife, followed by the Kizer Original XL, Civivi Sendy and Civivi Elementum wharncliffe. So a 14c28n, 154cm and two NitroVs. All have multiple ways to deploy except the Sendy which adds the toothpick and tweezers. Speaking of, knife-centric multitools, my most carried this year was the Leatherman Free T4 and a custom Victorinox Cyber Companion. The new Roxon Flex Companion is mounting a strong challenge to those two.

Usually I carry a skeletool. Honestly, I probably use the screwdriver and pliers more than the blade. But the blade on it does cut things when I need it to. When I'm in the woods I carry a custom folder that I had a friend make for me. It's a friction folder that's a cross between a rigging knife and a bushcraft knife, the tail is a marlinespike.
@J.sh_CDN5 күн бұрын
Skeletool holds a special place in my heart, really good folding knife on it, and it's small enough to carry all the time. Has just the right amount of tools on it, I usually have a tiny victorinox on my keys as well, so I have a small pair of Scissors on that, plus the pliers, screwdriver, knife, and bottle opener on the skeletool.

I've always found the lock on the Manix 2 to be hugely underwhelming. Mine has always been really stiff and not at all fidget friendly. I wish Jared Neeves would send ME a box of knives though. The knife I reach for most often (out of four or five sat in front of me at my desk) is the Opinel 8 in Carbon Steel. Opening and closing might take me a second or two longer than everything else, but I do love the slicy blade and with regular stropping, the damn thing has never gone blunt on me. I wouldn't carry it out of the house though. Hell, I couldn't. UK police would send me to jail because it's a locking knife and we can only carry a slipjoint. So a Victorinox Farmer or Spyderco UKPK gets all the pocket time.

My EDC knife is my civivi damascus mini praxis with wood scales. It's not any better than the less fancier versions in terms of functionality but it is really pretty to look at the patterned steel and the wood scales just make it feel nicer to me whenever I touch it. I find myself pulling it out to just admire it a lot. It's also a small and thin knife so it's unobtrusive and fits in my already crammed pockets well. When I need something bigger I like my ruike p128-sf. I installed a new ceramic ballbearing ring in it and it opens and closes like it's a switchblade. Very nice. Much bigger than the praxis though so I don't bring it around as often unless I want the longer cutting edge. Lastly I really like my condor cavelore fixed blade as my whittling, camping and bushcraft knife. It's not a folding pocket knife though so it's more of an honorable mention.

I normally carry a Spyderco Delica stainless in VG10, ( a little oldschool, I know) but the flatness, overall size, and ability to set it up Tip-Down has kept one in my pocket for decades. The first one was a fully serrated that I'd polished the sides to a mirror finish, but the serrated didn't always do the best job. Found one in combo/Semi-serrated and loved it, but sadly forgot it was in my pocket going to a concert, and ended-up losing it at the door. Found another one, used, on Ebay and it was as good as what I'd lost. Used to carry Enduras (particularly a full serrated in ZDP-189) for a while, back when bigger/ longer knives were all the rage, but those are kinda frowned-upon for EDC, hence the downsize to the similarly shaped Delica. Lately, I've decided I prefer a little more handle-size, but am staying with the shorter blade length, so, Para3 G10 in SV35, and a Para2 Blue G10 in SPY27. If I want something really small and slim, i have a Benchmade Mini Osborne Burnt Orange in Magnacut that is a delight to carry. Locks are a bit of a puzzle for me. I still really like the "traditional" Back-lock on my Delica/Endura knives, over some of the Axis, compression or liner-locks...mostly for the one-handedness they offer, but I can use them all about the same. Love the content, and the humor. Keep it up. Best knife/ sharpening channel I've encountered.

Seeing these knives makes me think you'd like a button lock knife, I mean, if you haven't already tried them. The Elementum or Elementum II seem pretty similar to the Kizer and the Qubit is somewhat similar in blade shape to the Manix. Kizer has several nice looking models. Vosteed actually has the Raccoon in both button lock and button actuated liner lock forms. I only have the CIVIVI Elementum which only has the button lock for opening and closing (no thumb stud or flipper) and it's been rock solid. Locks completely in both positions. Having it as my EDC has made me a fan.

I've just been carrying my multitool around, but recently I started carrying thr Roxon Flex Companion. I have it modified to my liking and it gets the job done. The Blade is pretty good. Not 100% ideal, but I prefer it to most Victorinox SAKs because I don't really like having nails, and the blade locks. I also am not worried about breaking the blade since you can replace it for $8. I would recommend you to do a cut test since the blade is so cheap. $8 one handed opening/closing ambidextrous D2 knife blade, in a modular tool frame. I also carry my S110V Manix 2 when I feel like it.

Nice... My main EDC is a Spyderco Yo2 in cruwear, with a titanium deep carry clip and engraved G10 scales. It holds up very well to everything I put it through. I occasionally carry a standard S30V model, as well. In my off hand, I've started carrying one of the M4 Manix 2's. I like it, but the hollow grind of the other generally works better for me than the flat grind. That said, it's still a wonderful knife. I also keep an assortment of other knives in my backpack - Opinels (No. 9 & 10, regular and slim), and another spydie, the Bow River. Both are well made, inexpensive, utilitarian, but good-looking. I may get a Native Chief cruwear, as I love that style. I had an M390 model previously that I gifted, and I find myself wanting another.

Amazing Alex! I purchased a manix in Rex 45... I didn't get it yet but I am sure it's fantastic. Do you know anything about the PM2 in Rex 76?
@OUTDOORS555 күн бұрын
I have a pm2 but in s30v. That knife missed out this year because a pivot screw fell out (my fault after disassembling it) otherwise that would have made the list. Don't know about rex76 yet. Will be interested to see how it performs.

@ I think your friend Jerad got one as well. Seems to be a Sprint run and I couldn't find after Black Friday anymore... Let's see! Are you not able to find a new screw? 😳

I regularly carry two knives at a time, different sizes for different purposes, and one knife that is always with me if I'm wearing pants. Around the house you'll find me in sweats. In the pocket of those you'll find: One of the original Gerber Paraframe I half-serrated knives. Laugh if you want, but it serves its assigned duty as a package opener and cardboard bod breakerdowner (is that an actual word?) quite well. It seems to always have a good edge (I touch it up twice yearly) despite more than a decade of daily carry and use. Next up is a CRKT LKC+ Large that I recently stopped carrying. It was being carried for backup self-defense in my left-hand pocket (I'm disabled and walk with a cane in my right) and it opened and stabbed me in my hand quite painfully. I'm looking for a replacement. If I was outside last year I always had three knives on my person, a Petrified Fish 818 (flipper) as my primary, a Buck Squire for delicate tasks and when I don't want to frighten the easily intimidated by snapping open the flipper, and clipped to my suspenders so that it often just gets overlooked as a pin, a Kershaw Ken Onion Chive, in pink. Legal even to take into schools and courthouses, I often forget it's there and it has never gotten me stopped at a checkpoint. Even when it's spotted as an actual knife, and an assisted opener at that, most people consider it a cute toy. The only one who has ever confiscated it from my is my neighbor's wife who plucked it off my suspender and dropped it in her bra, knowing full well I wasn't going in after it. SHe claimed it as hers and I only got it back after promising her one of her own for her birthday. I kept my promise and she wears it on her nurse's scrubs at work.

Do you have any experience sharpening silky saws, if so, can you do a video about that?

Ah, the manix 2, so several years ago, I was looking at spidercos, and I also, wanted a clear blue handled knife, or I just came across it and realized I needed such a thing, don't remember, but I like blue, and I like clear things. At the time, it was 105 bucks, and I didnt make that much, fastforward to this year and you dropped some video talking about how you liked the manix 2, and that knife I wanted was now 135 bucks. but I did some digging and found one for 95 with shipping and tax. looks unused, just had to clean sticker residue off the blade, and it didnt come with the belt clips, which i basically never use anyway. I don't carry it myself, but I'm happy to have it, and to be truthful, i generally carry stuff around 30-50 $s because if I lose it, it's not the end of the world, but it's expensive enough that I can trust the material and build quality. I need to learn more about this CPM and REX.....

It blows my mind how little experience you have in the folding knife world, yet how much experience you have in the knife world. Kunwu is an excellent company. All those companies are. Im surprised to not see any Magnacut or Vanax on the list. Or one of my favorites, Elmax. It takes a screaming edge.

I have many knives, and steels. These were just the ones in my pocket like I say. I could have cherry picked some more interesting stuff, but I didn't. I have heard of kunwo, but never did any research into their knives, since they aren't designs id normally buy. Thats why i was pleasantly surprised by this one.🙂

@OUTDOORS55 theyre excellent. I know you have tons of knives. I didn't mean any offense. Just that you buy knives based on use as a cutting tool mostly and don't get too caught up in every drop or pre-order from every company. Kunwu is a major player these days. In the folding knife communities I'm apart of, half the guys buy expensive knives and never cut with them or carry them and it would almost be unimaginable to only carry 4 knives 99% of the year. Im kind of in between. I like to play the game a little but I also want a knife to function as a cutting tool

I carry a 45acp on one side and a G44 on the other with an AR10 on the shoulder and a 10/22 in 1st vehicle an 870 12ga in 2nd vehicle, and an 870 20ga by the bed, and over in the corner there sets a 6.5mm, 7mm, 7mm mag, a couple 7.62s and the butter 8mm.. now, all these steels don't cut very smoothly, but you should see what they do to the paper towel..!!! And definitely will split hairs..!!!

I bought the Raccoon on black friday sale after I saw it in your walmart d2 knife video. I really like the form factor and the action is great too. I spend more time fiddling with than using it

Ned foss beast d2. I dont carry it all the time but earlier this year I had to cut some conveyor rubber. It was a horrible. I tried using a regular razor knife which was also horrible but almost seemed better sometimes. I have not gotten it sharp yet but I am going to get a shapton 2k and hopefully not regret not getting a strop. Maybe ill get one next year.

Recently I've mostly been mostly carrying a Spyderco Endela with the K390 Wharncliffe blade. Probably my most carried knife this year though is a Microtek MSI. One of the ones with the injection molded handles because a $120 markup for G10 is a bit much. Either that or the Hogue Deka.

Yeah, the Manix 2 XL is one of my favorite knives of all time. Carried my original for so many years that the G10 is perfectly smooth on the clip side. Always been curious why the bearing lock has only been used on the Manix 2's and a couple weird or limited collab ones (P'Kal, Dodo, Veile & D'Allara 3).
