Have you ever used a Windom ham radio antenna? I get my first crack at one and you're invited to see how it does. Check out Tim's relaunched eBay store at www.ebay.com/str/N9SAB?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 .

Hi Tracey I always enjoy watching your KZbin videos. Many thanks for taking time making them. Like you, I have a Yaesu 897 and 817. I go hiking in the Peak Distirct in England, taking my 817 and G5RV antenna in my rucksack 😀. Best 73s, Tim

Tracy, you always have great videos and the information is appreciated. BTW, I was "Outdoors and on the Air" 11/25 activating a SOTA summit. Made 32 contacts on 40, 30 and 20M over 2 hours and had a GREAT time.

Fantastic! That's an outstanding QSO count for just 2 hours. I'd like to know what you were using for a station and what mode you were using.

Conditions smiled upon me on Candler Mountain, W4V/RA-057. 12 QSO's on 40M Phone, 10 on 20M phone, some on 20M CW, 1 on 30M CW all are uploaded to the SOTA www site. I was VERY surprised that there were no takers on 40M CW. Ran a KX-3 @ 10W and the antenna is a segmented dipole @ 20' giving full sized coverage on 40, 30 and 20M. Just connect / disconnect the alligator clips to change bands. Power came from an 8AH SLAB battery built into a .30 plastic ammo can along with a PWM solar charge controller for the battery, a pair of USB outlets to charge the cell phone, etc. A 50W solar panel came along but stayed in the car as it would have been a bit clumsy to take to the peak. Took a "Rite in the Rain" notebook with me to both enter the contacts into the log but also record those items taken but were excess to the effort as well as items which would have been beneficial had I taken them along. Weather smiled also as it was 65F / 18C and sunny and was also happy about being able to ride about 1/2 way up the 1800 ft climb to the summit. Next effort will definitely see the SLAB battery replaced with Bioenno Power, 15AH LifPo battery: tinyurl.com/y7nslbtg at 1/2 the weight and about 2X the power density. At the end of the day, I was VERY surprised that my phone contacts so outnumbered those made on CW. I would have thought it would have been the other way around. -73-

Excellent video, thank you! I'll have to get one of these windoms. This will be an excellent antenna for my SOTA QRP work!

Thank you! You are going to love the N9SAB Mini Windom and make a lot of contacts if you can get it up high and in the clear.

Just got home from being away, and I was excited to catch up on your videos. You always seem to do videos on exactly what I need; I was just looking at this antenna! Thanks. Wish the Tabbies were doing better!!! LOL - VE7KPM

Mike, please forgive my tardiness in getting a reply back to you. Thank you for your comment, it's much appreciated 😀 It's a terrific antenna. Now that the Cats are out of the playoffs I can focus on radio...the CQ WW SSB Contest is right around the corner and I plan to be out for that one.

nice and I'm glad you mentioned the blown finals. I have told the same thing to many only to get laughed at. I'm on my 4th set of finals before I learned.

Where is the hot side of the coax connected to in the Windom antenna? Long leg or the short leg or no difference. Thanks.

At the joint of the two, just like a dipole.

Hi David, thank you for your comment! Due to other priorities in my life I do not get to spend much time on the radio. I don't hang around on any specific frequency but move to where the action is. I'd enjoy making a contact with you too, but of course conditions have to be just right. I've only made a contact with ZS once before in 26 years of hamming and it was a big thrill. 73 from Tracy VE3TWM.
