I hate how everyone is bashing the writers and the actors. As sad as it is, it makes total sense that JJ was always going to die. He was the one most likely to sacrifice himself for the Pogues and everyone on the island knew JJ would eventually bite the dust. Everyone always wants a happy ending but the sad thing is anyone can die at any time and it’s a hard truth to swallow. It was never about how long we got with the Pogues but the fact that we did actually get that time and appreciate that for what it is. It’s literally how life goes. Now there is a chance he could be revived if they’re able to get the crown and the wish thing does actually work. I for one will definitely watch season 5 so I can see how this great tale ends

Everyone said that his time was going to be up eventually, it’s heartbreaking to think his own father did it but that’s literally a possibility in life. I think taking this approach was a ballsy move and it will be the darkest chapter yet for the Pogues because finally shit is actually real. It’s like when Dumbledore died and all of a sudden the school was fucked. This is the end game so big shit has to happen. I love JJ and I hope there’s a way back for him, but if his death to find the crown leads the Pogues to true happiness and success I think our boy would’ve wanted nothing less

On the one hand, they keep hinting at the fact that it can grant one wish. On the other hand, this show never does any unrealistic magic shit. Plus, the actors and directors in the recent interviews talk like this is Rudy's last performance as JJ. Maybe they're baiting us with that. Maybe not. Idk I'm just bitter cause in a few years from now. When i look back at this series, all I'll remember is how it killed of its prized character.

Season 5 is gonna be super dark. JJ was the heart of the show and was willing to do the crazy and hard things so his friends wouldn’t have to. With him being gone the show can’t be light hearted anymore and seeing how they are already being vengeful for his death, next season is gonna be very very dark. I can’t say that I didn’t see his death coming because through out the show he was ready to sacrifice himself for his friends, I just hate that groff was the cause of his death.

His one is a story of abuse, in my opinion what they tried to do with his death was to unpack the abusive relationships in the series, while Sarah has the strength to let go of her dad, even while being hurt of him not loving her, and eventually him sacrificing himself for her, provides a rather confusing relationship, JJ’s different. He’s good, a really good guy, softer than he wants to admit, and he’s been abused so many times, but lacks Sarah’s ability to cut off (or try to) his abuser, he still helps his “dad” escape, he still gives the water to his dad, he never cuts them off without providing them with help, because that’s what JJ is. Well. We all know that Ki would have NEVER done that. People that want to be abusers don’t want help, they don’t want love, the don’t want to be kind, they don’t ask for forgiveness and have no real remorse, they choose to keep abusing, they only want time so that they can abuse you once more, and JJ gave him the means to do that.

Out of every OBX character in every episode of every season JJ was the one that deserved the world. And in a way he got it... even if it was only for a little while.... He was abused, beaten, and mistreated but he still fought. His "father" abused him his whole and then his actual father killed him.... If Groff wasn't a murderer before.... he is now... JJ put his life on the line more than once for his friends... He went through so much in his life but through it all he stood by his friends through thick and thin, the good and the bad, that is the measure of a true friend, a true brother... a true Pogue... Even when things looked hopeless... like there was no way to fix it he still kept going... even when the others felt defeated... he pushed them to keep going... he brought them hope... JJ's life was far from perfect but he still did everything he could for his friends... his true family... He was a selfless friend. A hero. A jokester. Selfless. A fighter. A brother. But above all else... he was a Pogue. In life and death cause Pogues are for life! 😭😭😭😭😭😭 R.I.P JJ!! I am going to watch season 5 if for no other reason than to see JJ Maybank avenged.

JJ was suicidal the episode before his death and then he decided he wanted to get his life together after all this was over. Finally get back to normal, for him to have a family, become a godfather, open the business back up but nope. Netflix does what Netflix knows best. They kill off the best character. Frankly the only character people kept watching for. In my personal opinion OBX should’ve ended on S3 when they got the gold and were all happy they’d opened up the business and become successful but they had to drag it out and completely ruin the show. JJ died thinking that everybody back home hated him. That he was a murderer. He was framed for murder that he did not commit. Framed by his own dad. His own killer

They spent the night after nearly drowning at the beach, in the desert, no water whatsoever, they walk to the city for a few miles, Sarah feels sick and the plan is to rob something at the market, they go for APPLES! No water!! Pregnant Sarah and actually all of them would be in need of water first and foremost. This show has nothing of a real life vibe so no, I do not agree with this death but yes, the writers had great courage in killing a major character.

i find it absolutely ridiculous that JJ had to be the one to die. I mean in the entire 4 seasons, he never got a break. Like John B said in his narration, tough things were a part of his life but tough things were like the ONLY PART of his life and he never really got the happy ending he deserved. After years of physical and verbal/emotional abuse from Luke, the drinking, them being broke, the insults, Luke leaving him...and yet JJ still loved him. And then having to find out that the person that did all of those things to you turns out to not be your biological father, and have it be another asshole who killed your mother and then kill you is unimaginable...and for JJ to have suffered all those things and get through them was hard enough on its own, but then showing us how he was finally starting to live a better life alongside his friends and then just have him die in the shittiest way ever is so unfair to the character in my opinion. The writers might've just lost more then half of their viewers after making this poorly thought out plan

I find it VERY interesting that Rafe would be the one here digging the hole for JJ. I dont think that is by accident, which leads me to think we might be being guided by the show to feel a certain way to take us away from their true plans. And yes you can say that Rafe was the least emotionally invested making it easier for him to carry it out, BUT it is HARD for me to believe that JOHN B RUTLEDGE would not be involved with putting his brother to rest. There is on way. Im not saying that JJ is still alive but I fell the same way i felt when Jon Snow died. I dint think this is the end. They teased supernatural elements in season 3 with the cloth inside the cross. Maybe our P4L family is going after that wish. Or rather to see if it really works

The only way they can save this bad writing they did to kill him off is to resurrect him with the crown in season 5. Even if they do it in the finale episode or close to the end, that would definitely make sense seeing as it grants 1 wish. I know this isn’t a show that does this kind of thing, but we can only hope right? The writing was definitely not the best for his character because why make him so important just to kill off? It basically disregards his whole storyline this season and gives it little meaning. I’m curious how they’ll do season 5 honestly.

Although JJ's death feels sudden, it could be a way to raise the stakes in the story and show how much he means to the group. His relationships and growth over the season still have value, even with this ending. Season 5 might focus on how his friends handle the loss, honoring his impact and keeping his character meaningful.

okay this might be a helluva longshot but what if the pogues get their revenge and then wish JJ back to life with the crown?? even tho they did the whole montage from season 1-3 it still is very possible that they are just setting something up for season 5. but irdk i'm still in the denial stage. and if rudy doesn't want to be in obx anymore he would only have to be in the last 1-2 episodes after JJ is wished back to life. JJ was fr the best character and the reason I continued watching obx was because of JJ and his wild streak. hopefully the writers will realize that they made a huge mistake and rewrite a new script that brings JJ back to life in season 5.
