I really appreciate this view and thank you for being honest, this take will not leave my mind for a while trust me. Something I worry about constantly the more I grow. Being honest with you, I never claimed to be the face of sustainable shopping and living, facts! I never said I was perfect etc. I’ve just always promoted buying second hand over new and small brands over bigger brands. This hasn’t and will never change. With the nature of this job it’s hard to be as sustainably minded all the time, esp compared to when I first started as now I get the opportunity for so much free things from big and small brands, and tbh I think anyone would be crazy to turn those offers down when there from your fave brands etc. everyone loves free things haha. with that said I’m always turning offers down every week as I don’t like to have things for the sake of it. and gifting things to friends left right and centre when I know I don’t ‘need’ something. As I’ve said a lot recently, I’m collecting items for a giveaway for my subscribers which is so exciting - as I don’t want to waste products and the PR in this industry can be so crazy so I want to spread the gifts to others as much as I can. As also mentioned I’m really focused on selling on a lot of my wardrobe this year on depop, making sure there’s a purpose for everything I own. Being so honest 90% of my wardrobe is vintage, second hand, or from a genuine small brand ! Trying to think what big fast fashion brands you mentioned I’ve been promoting, ofc there’s a few as it’s hard to be fully sustainable in this capitalist society as we know. I could choose to not say where my Uniqlo tights or adidas trainers are from but then I don’t want people to think I gatekeep everything etc. and I love how honest I can be with my subscribers ! Just typing as I think so probs not the most well rounded answer but hope that clears anything up. I don’t think anyone is perfect, esp when it comes to capitalism etc. Finally, a sad reality of being a fashion ‘influencer’ is that you’re may end up consuming more than the average person, having trendy items and points of reference within your own wardrobe is highly useful for giving visual references to what your chatting about. I love that I’ve purchased from and own SO many of the amazing brands I promote, I love supporting them financially and being able to show how I wear their pieces across videos to inspire others. And like I said, I’m constantly checking myself for what new things I bring in and making sure what I have is valuable and this will continue into 2025 as I hope to be more minimal everyday. Eeek don’t know if what I said was said well but yeah, would love for you to elaborate on your comment as well because of course it’s not nice to hear and I’d love to do better as much as I can and I really appreciate the criticism so thank you 🩵
