Absolutely brilliant!! I love describing costumes as tools, I feel like that really fits in well with the themes of Glass Onion! The first time I saw Birdie's rainbow dress it made me think of a bird of paradise. The only thing I'm still wrapping my head around is Lionel's wishbone. I can't grasp what it might mean thematically but sure is a cool brooch!

Well I suppose the wishbone "game" could be seen as similar to the "game" that Andi and Miles played. You each take half and pull it apart until it breaks and the winner takes all. Miles got the metaphorical larger end of the wishbone and he got the entire company and all his wishes came true, leaving Andi with nothing.

The costume design really made each character feel iconic, like they were all characters from Clue that we should all be well acquainted with, even though that's not really the case. But I kept thinking, "Oh yes, of COURSE Birdy Jay would wear that. Of COURSE that's SO Lionel" even though they were all brand new characters.

Birdie's rainbow dress looks bad. I don't know why they keep talking about it in BTS content like it is an incredible, glamorous piece. Rainbow itself is already tacky, and the actual rainbow colours on the dress are too dark. The colour isnt vibrant and popping. And shiny fabric tends to look cheap, especially if the fabric itself is heavy, and doubly so if there are prominent seams. IMO it fits the character in the sense that although she used to be a huge celebrity, she is getting older (replaced as arm candy love interest to Miles by Whiskey), and isn't as relevant in the industry anymore. It is really cool character costume, which I love about the film. But it is not a show-stopping designer gown, it looks like a competent seamstress made a nice party dress using fabric she found at her local fabric outlet.

The scientist's outfits made no sense. Why would he dress like that? Only because the actor wanted to look good. The costume designer's job isn't to service the desires of the actor, but to service the character and the story.
