Big Boi is so criminally underrated. He shows off some insane technical skill on this track but everyone's always talking about Andre. He deserves more love.
@rodrigoodonsalcedocisneros9266 Жыл бұрын
Big Boi has had the worst luck ever: being overshadowed by a more unique voice in Andre. Andre is not as good an MC or freestyler as BB, but he is a far superior musician. Had BB been in a duo or group with other rappers, he would have been given more credit because his delivery and style is top notch, the problem is that everytime he gets mentioned, everybody thinks of him alongside Andre, who had more unique writing, a more unique cadence and a more unique sound to his stuff, his presence kind of took over musically.

@@skyofthelivingdeadI wouldn’t say he should be included in the greatest ever conversation but he is a great no doubt. Outkast is what happens when artists are unafraid to define themselves rather than be defined by an industry with their own ideas of what rappers are supposed to be. Music defines entire generations. It defines culture. Rap is more than trapping and hustling, not to knock the hustle, but why limit it to one aspect of life? Let rap breathe and grow like it is with independent rappers resisting the system today. Sometimes you have to take a Chance. An observation, not criticism. Love live creativity.

I think it's hard for people who weren't around at the time to appreciate how revolutionary this song was. Mixing EDM, hip hop, rock, breakbeats, even gospel... it just wasn't normal at the time. @dwayneturner93954 жыл бұрын
@@jaysmith2925 when did it "stay in the west"? If you're talking Snoop/Dre(thats literally the biggest names from west), that's still early - mid 90s?! Nas, Fugees/Clef/Lauryn,Jay, Busta, DMX, AZ, Ghostface, Raekwon, ODB, Method Man, GZA(really his 2nd), Biggie and Bad Boy, etc., all dropped debut albums after the Chronic and a lil after Doggystyle. And there's no denying that from 98-2001...DMX, Wu, and Jigga dominated(Busta first 5 went platinum too, but these dudes had bigger names). So im saying, it started in the East, went west, came back east, then they shared it with the Deathrow/Badboy days but East STILL had a stranglehold. Then after X, The south took it. And now its global. And yes, there's always groups or artists (Geto Boys!!!, 8Ball&MJG, UGK, 3-6, etc)scattered from other areas that was poppin too. Its all love. #RealHipHop

R.I.P. to the Black children murdered in the infamous "Atlanta's Missing and Murdered Children" case. As Andre 3000 is running out of the apartment complex, the painting on the wall of a child in black and white was painted in tribute to the children that had already been murdered up to that point around 1981. Those buildings are gone now.

This song has not aged well. Still catchy, but embarrassing now. - [The song became increasingly popular during the Iraq War in 2003. Many radio stations increased its airplay and U.S. troops were using it as a battle cry. During the 2003 NASDAQ-100 Open, tennis player Jennifer Capriati requested it to be played. Both members of Outkast have clarified they opposed the invasion, with Big Boi wishing that the U.S. government consulted the United Nations before taking action and Andre 3000 stating that the half-hearted bombings are a metaphor for lack of dedication in the music industry.] - wiki

Andrew A this song is a masterpiece but your comment is so ignorant towards all the other kinds of music like seriously no this doesnt have everything thats good about music in it if you were to make a song like that it would be atleast an hour long or it would just feel way to weird switching through all these diffrent soundscapes without proper transitions(although it would also be an experience woth my time) pls keep an open mind and give other music a chance i myself disliked hip hop like i disliked classical and jazz but i gave them a chance took a couple tries now i couldnt do without them (like your missing out on so many other types of emotions mindsets and cant really experience live fully through always being affected by 1 kind style) my ego was standing in my way, stopping me from taking it in as it is i was looking for the music i already liked in all these very diffrent kinds of music but i gave it time i waited a few weeks and gave it a chance again and again, in my subciounces it was echoing and echoing i started havingh a earworm and didnt know what it was untill i gave that stuff i didt get the first few times anorher chance and low and behold theyre was my earworm only greater much greater because theyre was so much more to get than the little catchy part my mind saved so to speak so yeah i hope for once somebody actually accepts my "wisdom" cause im telling you it will be worth it, i know its hard to get over your ego but just take your time step by step. you will realise all sound is music

THIS video and song stood out by a mile back then, and still does. It's like it fell from another planet. Like, wtf is this, and howcome it's so good. As if this was a sound that had occured before.. when it hadn't. The song is/was so unique and so proud, despite being like nothing else being played at the time. And this video, omg. The effects, the colours, the imagery, so lush, so rich, so colourful, so cool, so much going on. And the people, the culture of these Atlantians, so full of flavour and unique yet cool styles. And the ideas/lyrics/concepts being said here, just completely unique and interesting. Just what an incredible orchestra of spectrum !
