This is newly acquired for me and one I did not play during the time of its original release, unlike the majority of my other LucasArts posts. I'm glad I have it. It features really great, fully orchestrated music composed by Clint Bajakian spread over the game's two CDs. the other big draw is the great cut-scene and voice work. They are styled that is something between Don Bluth animation films and elongated Heavy Metal characters.
The gameplay itself isn't much to speak of and even judging by its 1997 release, probably wasn't impressive at the time. I will however be going through it to experience more of the cutscene. This game was also difficult to get running as with a lot of old games, it is 32bit, which makes it somewhat x64 compatible, the problem is that the installer and moreover the game patches are 16 bit and unusable. There is a custom installer that will get the game installed, but to use the patches I had to emulate a VM Win95, patch the game, and then overwrite the files on the installation on real machine.

Clint Bajakian really knocked it out of the park in parodying/homage to Ennio Morricone and the graphics were also so close to how European (Italian after all ;) ) these intro screens were in these westerns. A master piece :) indeed.

I wonder if the people who were in the LucasArts team know what kind of unique game they made. I mean LOOK AT IT! The soundtrack, the shortcuts, the story! This is not just a game you play for some months and never look back at. I am not even such a big gamer but the games I play never gave me the same feeling as Outlaws does. This is game that always come back to me every year. more than 20 years already. It is full of nostalgia and inspiration of the wild west for me (even if its just a game and not reality) and so many other people. Without this game I would have probably never been that much interested in the wild west. Thank you people of LucasArts for this masterpiece

I still remember buying a new computer to play a bunch of the "latest" games. I actually got a few games ahead of the machine, and I recall that Outlaws (and possibly Under a Killing Moon and perhaps Jedi Knight?) being the games I was so eager to play. I still remember loving every minute of this game, having recently discovered spaghetti westerns (beyond just the few classics like the Dollars trilogy), and being AMAZED by the cutscenes in this (and Full Throttle). Although the game engine has obviously dated, the cutscenes and voice acting is still such fun and the music - holy crap, the music! - is *still* one of my favourite game scores to this day. I was actually disappointed Red Dead Redemption reused so many real movie scores rather than write more of their own original material like Clint's awesome OST here.

seriously great animation, looks like Aeon Flux. Pretty sure that doc was voiced by John DeLancie, Start Trek TNG's Q. I recognized Slim's voice too but couldn't place it, and the little girl I'm pretty sure was one of the Rugrats.

Fantastic game. I played through it so many times and never got tired of it. Amazing soundtrack, amazing art style, just excellent all around. Glad to see so many other people who loved it, I didn't know anyone but my brother and I who were familiar with it when I originally played it.

For its time it's a masterpiece. Love the music and it's impact. Enio Moricone would be proud of the results of this game. listen to the Main theme from "The good,the bad,and the ugly" and you will understand where the game has its origin....

Man, Dr. Death was such a brilliantly done character. The very moment he started talking to Anna I got SO tense ... and then he put his hand on the door ("Oh, we know that") ... and everything afterward scared the living shit out of me. Easily one of the most disturbing murder scenes in video game history (esp. as it was HEAVILY implied that he also raped Anna).

When I had this on CD ROM in the nineties, the cut-scene / my computer had a bug which made it cut straight to the game at the point where the girl is on her swing - so I never saw the guys speak to his wife on the farm and didn’t really fully know what the story was (although kind of worked it out…)

Suddenly started humming the tunes to this game 25 years after playing it... Reminded me I needed to clear something up. On my version of the game, this opening cutscene always cuts suddenly at 4:35 then jumps directly into the first stage. Was this some kind of censorship for the UK version, or was it just a bug?

@SoulKiller7Eternal
@SoulKiller7Eternal 9 жыл бұрын
Chidoro41 1 - your an idiot. These level designs are classic...just because you suck so much you need liner levels...there is a problem with you. Not these games. Dark Forces was one of their best games - far from linear levels.
@Chidoro41
@Chidoro41 9 жыл бұрын
SoulKiller7Eternal nice try tiger. both games were very linear, you just had to find hidden spots in the geometry to move through them as opposed to walking through something more open, ie. crappy design. "your an idiot", priceless, simply priceless.
@SoulKiller7Eternal
@SoulKiller7Eternal 9 жыл бұрын
Chidoro41 Like I said - you clearly haven't played them. Those levels are far from linear. I know from experience, not the stupidity of some half-ass critic that doesn't know their head from a hole in the ground.
@Chidoro41
@Chidoro41 9 жыл бұрын
SoulKiller7Eternal clearly, you are incorrect. I still have the outlaws cd's lying around because I liked the music(the Dark Forces discs are in a landfill somewhere). And you, clearly, don't know what qualifies as a linear experience, but hunt for a keys and backtracking to find hidden walls in the geometry is, in fact, very linear. In your world, everyone seems to be the idiot but you. I find that amusing. You should lose the tough-guy attitude, it doesn't make your incorrect assessment correct
@Chidoro41
@Chidoro41 9 жыл бұрын
SoulKiller7Eternal You simply don't know what a linear experience is i guess. No sense in continuing carrying on with some goofy little nothing like yourself. Keep up the tough-guy image, it's really working for you, repeated incorrect statements and all. Enjoy your memories of linear titles you think aren't, simpleton.
