The Newt does have one advantage over Dreadhorde Arcanist and other sorcery-speed Snapcasters (like the UB Faerie from MOM): it literally gives the spell flashback. You actually can target a counterspell to protect your second main spells proactively. It also doesn’t cast the spell immediately so it gets other spells around t3feri.

Interesting thing about High Noon is that, barring removal, the controller decides when to turn it off. So you can fort up behind it then let it go when you're ready. Almost certainly irrelevant for Canlander, being wildly expensive with this plus whatever multispell turn you want/not having a home, but it is interesting.

Does "anything they control" include spells? That would make counter spells crimes which seems good. The big thing they missed about Forsaken Miner is that Blood Artist commits Crimes. So does Goblin Bombardment.

Yes, targeting an opponent, anything they control, or any card in their graveyards counts as a crime. "Controlling" includes permanents on the battlefield and spells on the stack.

35:30 I think Jace could be pretty decent, but the first turn is definitely the roughest due to plot’s future turns restriction. Turn 4-5 you could play him, plot a draw spell or a kill spell, and still leave counterspell or kill spell mana up. Then each turn after that the cards you’ve plotted can help protect him and he becomes like a narrow 2 mana Gilded Lotus. I think he might belong in tempo?

Jace will be good in a lot of decks, looting feed your grave and filter cards. the second ability can protect jace if your deck is built around it : like having a removal or a boardwipe in hand and play it for free and maybe play a second removal with the mana left or keep mana for a counter. And the ult is copy a spell wich can be a combo. I see jace to go in grixis control or reanimator, maybe and izzet deck

As a planeswalker that doesnt protect itself, jace interests me for the kind of decks that are ok with it getting one ability off and then being a fog. Something like breach or thoracle is a card that is plausibly safest plotted, and also a card you tend to want to play at a later turn alongside other things, which i imagine is where plot shines. Decks like that can be very real threats with the ultimate, and benefit from looting, while also sometimes wanting to buy a turn, which i imagine jace being capable of doing

I do love the minor "immediately flood the board" you can have with Geralf, Gravecrawler, and Phyrexian Altar. Like, I know it's not a new combo, but making an arbitrary number of arbitrarily large zombies is still very fun.

Neat thing about highnoon its a symetrical effect with a sacrifice outlet so it can be 1 sided late game. Sacrificed at your opponents end step. Actually wouldnt sleep on it

Honestly I feel like plot is going to show as being far better than anyone thinks. The new Jace I think just lets you double spell almost every turn after you play it. The Plot feels like Sorcery speed Aether Vial and just lets you cheat on so much mana. Could be wrong, but I think its busted in half.

I did a sealed event last week where I pulled Jace and Sword of Wealth and Power. I full sent my whole deck around the two cards and went 2-1-1. The dream was to live until I could get Jace on the field. Uptick Jace on T4 to plot sword. T5, cast sword for free, attach it to an idiot, then copy a niche spell after swinging with the idiot. I got one game where it all lined up to where I actually got to pop the -6 in a turn, swing with an idiot with the sword and copy skullcrack, copying it 3 times and doing 9 to the dome in a turn for a kill. My opponent tilted and left the event after that lmao. Moral of the story is, I think Serge is right. Jace coming out T4 at best is too clunky in a format that isn't sealed, where the power level is usually lower in general.

Cards I think might be worth a 2nd look are Nezumi Linkbreaker(1/1 dies into a better 1/1),the Smirking Spelljacker(like a draining whelk/desertion mixbut gets around uncounterable) , the Sand Scout(does lands play white?) and Orochi Soul-Reaver(its not fallen shinobi but noone expects ninjas)

I'm pretty high on High Noon. I don't think it's just good against storm decks, a lot of decks really jump out ahead by casting 2 or 3 spells per turn. This slows the game down to a crawl, and I don't think the 5 cost to lava axe is too much. Pretty solid card, imo

@@CoL_Drake huge difference: those cards were designed to be drafted originally and then were curated to fit in the set they were added to. These cards aren't either of those. Your opinion is valid. I'm not trying to yuck your yum, but I don't think it's going to be a majority held opinion. As a guy who doesn't draft much anymore I care less about that. What I do care about is that it creates artificial card scarcity by reducing the number of OTJ cards that get into the wild. Probably won't make too much of a difference since cards these days don't hold the value that they once did, but it's an actual cost that was unintended by Wizards and might lead to similar bull hockey in the future.

A swingier and more explosive set with the pushed aftermath style cards can be fun for some people, but the pushing out of steadier, more synergistic decks playing with the sets mechanics or games getting repeatedly lost to bombs from the third list of cards to try to play around and remember is a sacrifice that Wizards chose to make when they changed the set to include the aftermath style cards to Outlaws.

I am somewhat annoyed that the have a different set symbol rather than counting as cards in the main set. It makes it so much harder to look a card up if you can't remember wether it was in the main set or just one of the other cards that were also in the boosters for the main set but weren't in the main set.
