We've used a box like that last item to hold individual postage stamps. The tilted bottoms make it easy to slide a stamp out of the box.

That's my guess too. I remember having to combine different valued stamps to get the right amount of postage on oversized letters and small packages.

The last item is a stamp box. I can tell you that with 100% certainty, as my grandfather collected these for years and has hundreds of them. The bottoms are often slanted like this one, or slanted for single stamps, and others are cylindrical with a slit on the side for rolls of stamps.

The wash bowl and pitcher sat on top of the wash stand. The top drawer was for grooming items and the lower cupboard was for the "pot". ;)

I've used pesticide sprayers like the one at 1:00. They're also known as 'flit guns'. When I saw the item engraved '4-in-hand', I immediately thought of ties. It did occur to me that it might be a tie-clip, but it wouldn't read properly if put in place with the right hand. Love the foot-warmer. I've seen brazier-style ones before, but not sure I've seen this style. I've never seen the inner workings of a clock reel/weasel before, but I guessed correctly as to its identity. Since a clock reel makes a loud 'tick' every so many turns, an aid in calculating the yardage of the skein, and children were usually the ones to wind the yarn, this machine inspired the children's song 'Pop! Goes the Weasel'. Skein, by the way, is pronounced 'skane'.

Many times I can’t figure out a single thing and sometimes I can get at least one! I immediately got the wash stand and was chuckling during the description.

A lot of misinformation about "four-in-hand" going on. The club was founded in London in 1856. Automobiles did not become common until the 1910s, and horses didn't disappear from city traffic until the 1930s. So they had naught to do with it. However, like many clubs it was organized by a bunch of friends with too much leisure, so, yes, they were wealthy. Membership was limited to 30 men. Driving "four-in-hand" did not refer to driving four horses, which is driving "four-up." If you consult a period reference, not Wikipedia, say, =Driving= from the Badminton Library of Sports, it refers to driving with four reins in hand. Their chapter on driving two horses tandem points out that this qualifies as driving four-in-hand. This volume was written and edited by some members of the Four-in-hand Club!

I’m glad that you clarified the driving point. I was wondering, before your explanation, how you drive a horse with a single rein per animal, lol. I would like to ask: Is the club strictly for leisure of the members, or is there a charitable purpose or motivation behind it? Thank you for your time…..

First item is an adjustment tool for a microscope, In college we used this item to do point counts on thin sections. Fits flat on the stage. Microscope thin section slide mounts and that arm holds it in place, the knobs precisely adjust both the a and b axes in the plane of the thin section slide.

I actually have one of those 4 in hand clips. I always thought it was for a ladies undergarment from the 1800s because of the sliding pin like bar at the back and the clip on the front.

I'm thinking for coins. Three areas won't work with the US system, but three could work with the old British system: shillings, pennies and farthings.

the old UK pre-decimal currency had a few more coins than 3 :) farthing, hapenny, penny, threepenny piece, a sixpennny piece, shilling , 2 shilling piece or Florin, a half crown (2 shilling and sixpence) a crown (5 shillings) , yes I'm that old I remember them lol Even the nicknames of them
