McCartney, First of all thank you for all your informative videos. I'm a "new-bee" to beekeeping and today I needed to try out some manipulation. My bees started to build from bar to bar and it was time to put a stop to it, It didn't go to well.... so.... I had a thought. You should mention with a text box on this video to "Be sure to have hair clips and zip ties handy in case the comb should fall off". Please keep the camera rolling and I still owe you a cup of coffee.

McCartney - how do you connect the hair clip to the top bar when you want to attach comb from a cutout to a top bar. This video was very helpful to me. Thanks for taking time to make it.

Thanks for the tip about jiggling the bar to get the bees to move out of the way when putting the top bars back together. I'll get my wife to give it ago when we next look in her TBH.

Are you guys still into bees?
@OutOfaBlueSky14 жыл бұрын
@Scott1844 First, when you buy the hair clips, make sure they have a hole near the top of the clip so you can tie a string from the top of the clip to the bar. The bees will take care of the string within 2 weeks. All you will have left will be the string above the bar.

@1artisfun If you start another hive, take a straight bar from one hive and put it in the hive that you will start with a package. This does 2 things: 1. Stops any absconding because they have brood 2. Keeps them fairly straight.

Great stuff been running a few top bars past 10 years and still learning. Thanks so much for the hair clip trick. I have wired them in in the past......what do you do for the dreaded double combs on one bar?! always happens

@tappakeggaday1 Don't worry about the bees being sanitary. They are wild creatures. You just worry about the honey area in the hive. You'll cut off the combs so they will always be yellow comb.

You didn't need your fancy engineer's lingo to give you away, the socks + sandals had you pegged long before the words ever came out of your mouth. BTW, I couldn't agree more about the bread knife. I started using one last year on my TB Hives and it's MUCH easier for getting in there to do some work.

Apparently, this is a much sought after question. The answer - I use tie-wraps to attach the hair clip to the bar. The trick is to buy hair clips that have holes which the tie wraps can go thru. When the comb is re-attached, you cut off the tie wraps.

I have a "silly question"when do you decide that the comb is to dark?I'm all for them making new comb to give them something to do but I was thinking of helping the bees stay sanitary.Does that make any sense?

Hey this is a great video! I just have one question (since i dont know a lot about bee hives). Why is the hive black?
@tyg.3348 жыл бұрын
The comb is black due to the age. As it ages it becomes darker and darker.

Beaumont Texas.. would it be unethical, to find a nuc this time of the year? Considering zone 9a Texas.. Can you coerce them to stay, with over winter syrup and such? i have a store bought brood langstrom, and a home made lure box a little bit bigger than 10 frame box. They have no interest in lemon grass oil, despite putting the box next to my garden with pumpkin flowers they constanly nibble on.

Drill a hole or holes in the top bar preferably the size of a bamboo Barbecue sqewer and push them to where the comb will end and then you can tilt the comb when it is built. you can also add them to built comb!!!!!!! Please feel free to share this tip

are bee hive are soft or hard ?
@dempsy972710 жыл бұрын
Soft when new (bright white color) and stiffer as it is used season-after-season. It gets tougher as it gets darker.
