Hi Capt.... this is one of the best 'how to do' videos on KZbin... Thank you!.... The last time the mechanic did this on our Yamaha, he broke that nylon nipple when re-installing the lower unit. Instead of me having to get the boat back on the trailer, and taking it to their shop (which is a major pain-in-the-stern ☺for me), he came to my house in a work-boat, dropped the lower unit and fixed it all with the boat on the boat lift. He's a great mechanic, like you!

Excellent tutorial on changing an impeller. Having been born and raised in Miami and working there for many years I had many Cuban friends and co-workers. I noticed several things about their English pronunciation . One thing was that “B” and “V” sounded identical when you called Yamaha “Jamaha” it took me back to Miami days. That looks just like I did it 24 years ago on a Yamaha 175, Captain. For Woodruff keys, I start out with the biggest chisel I have and when replacing. Getting that impeller started is a pain sometimes because you think you are going to damage it. In addition, I use Scotch-Brite on the vertical shaft and the prop shaft to keep the corrosion down. ( I used to work part time at several marinas and did just about all of my own boat maintenance on Mercruiser and OMC outdrives, grew up working my Dad's boats which where I learned). Great job.

Nice work. Pro tip I learned from an older gentleman that worked in the outboard racing business. After removing the plastic housing on the water pump. Remove the 2 alignment dowels on the steel plate and you can remove the plate around the woodruff key without needing to take the key out. The hole in the plate is just big enough to slip by it. Saves so much time and no need to ever remove the key, just clean around it.
@OutOnTheReef11 ай бұрын
Very true, captain and the Woodrow key I did not remove it last time. I did the impeller change so it was well overdue. Probably on the next time. I will not change it but if it removes easy. I will change it again because it gets stuck with a salt water environment. And I really like to take that off but I see your point. Thank you for your comment and for watching captain.👍🛥⚓️

Upvote for you! That's a great tip. I've had to cut the woodruff key down the middle with a Dremel to get it out before.
@Grady25210 ай бұрын
The woodruff key is a pita for sure. A tip for next time which has made removal much easier for me is to grind a small amount off the back side (rounded half) that goes into the shaft to make it more tapered. Not too much, just a very little and it does not get stuck too much.

For any other F200's owners who put it all back together and get a bad clunk at low RPM's (it sounds like prop chatter, but worse)....preload the the shaft/pinion space by PULLING UP ON THE DRIVE SHAFT while hammering down the metal collar over the plastic bushing / 3 washers. Its a lot easier to have someone help to do this step.

As I watched you disassemble the outboard, I wondered if having some Barnacle Buster in a small bowl wouldn't be helpful. It would be the equivalent of spraying PB Blaster or WD40 on metal parts before trying to disassemble them. In this case, soaking it would soften the salt build-up and ease its removal. Congrats on doing your own service, once again!

@Grady25210 ай бұрын
Was going to ask why you run on the muffs. That can lead to many issues like you experienced for overheating if you have any leakage or not enough water pressure/volume. Best to just flush via the flush connection.
@OutOnTheReef10 ай бұрын
@Grady252 good point but if i did not use the muffs i would not find out that is was a problem cap. But i see your point👍
@Grady25210 ай бұрын
Haha, but using the muffs caused the overheat problem in the first place right? Anyhow, normal maintenance should change impeller every few years or sooner if notice a reduction in the pee spray stream. Some folks don't trust the flush port with hose, but after 1400 hours on mine, when pulling out the thermostats, there is very little corrosion, so it must work good enough.
