Bare in mind I don't play the game but when he revealed lasers why not build the shield defense?

There are two reasons in this situation. I was shown how to build pro bases like this but the wood boxes at the front registers to me as an efficient defence. Secondly I had not enough reserved metal to place a shield (shields cost more and consume energy) but only metal as you saw me sell the last piece in front of my core, including that my resources are getting stolen at the same time as my opponent is Spook. It doesn't matter thou, in cases like this I'm only delaying the inevitable. My opponent sees everything and counters all my strategies. My opponent also had more APM than me and killed my primary weapon early. Eventually they would have just built an EMP to disable my shields if I did manage to build a shield in time.

shields generally don't work. You can't cover the whole base and still have energy left to do other things. The enemy can just shoot where there's no shield. Shield is really only useful to protect your wind turbine

wasn't the issue with those doors that the lower part below the actual doors was just wood? Wouldn't one need to place two metal beams to the section below the doors to maintain durability?

The point I learnt about that key tactic is that you don't need metal below the doors. The beauty of it is that you could add more wood (which I should have done) and the opponent would most likely hit the metal most times. But in this case my opponent must have been accurate enough to only get the wood which is why I do not like the logic of the small doors. I bring up the issue with a high skilled player and they say it's not really an issue. I don't know, I learn and copy what I know and it still doesn't work. But hey I was versing a high skilled player that much. I had no chance in other words.
