I think they should have renamed and rethemed the ride, with different music

It would still be the exact same coaster. Smilers identity is largely what made it so loved to begin with. By this logic, Thunder Mountain should have been totally rethemed after its hellish derailment too. Nothing was wrong with the ride. It was human error. The ride itself correctly detected the problem. A person overrode that. Smiler itself was never the issue this could've happened on any of the rides.

@@yes2591 no I wouldn’t, it’s not the fault of the ride it’s the operators. The ride did everything it was programmed to do it was the operators who sent the other cart round, the ride alerted the operators telling them the cart was stuck and they override the system. Since the crash nothing yet has happened at Alton Towers. Shall we try and ban cars because thousands of people die or lose limbs from crashes every year?

Do they even know how it happened?? It was not the fault of the ride, this was human error!! Clearly they know nothing about rides if they're saying this, sick of ppl spreading misinformation about rides and making ppl think they're dangerous

They don't want it to reopen because of their lingering PTSD. They will have been explained every detail of how it happened, and these two in particular could be seen during Nick Varney's speech. It's completely reasonable for them to have that opinion. If you lost a leg in a car crash, you wouldn't want to see that car stay on the road.

@@UK-Government Yeah I agree with that I don't think they should get it shut down but I don't think Merlin would have done that. It's also quite sad how all references to marmalisation were removed after this accident, but that was due to the general public
