When at the end of the 19th century the ornate floral, natural-feminine and simply delightful Art Nouveau style had just emerged, no one could have imagined that the works of the novice jeweler René Lalique would drive the world's first fashionistas crazy. When the talented master got tired of staying within the framework of "precious monotony", he decided that it was necessary to dare. To realize his childhood dreams, to create something new, daring, even outrageous. And he certainly succeeded!

I was lucky enough to see an exhibition called Artistic Luxury and featuring pieces from Lalique, Tiffany and Faberge. The emphasis was on the design and artistry of the pieces and showing how these masters would allow the design intent be more important than the materials--as precious as they were--in the final composition. In some cases they displayed the artist's design drawings along with the piece. If I remember correctly there was a focus on pieces displayed at the 1900 Paris Exhibition. Several months later I saw an exhibition for the anniversary of "100 years of Cartier in America". Let me just suggest that upping the carot count doesn't always make for a more beautiful piece of jewelry.

Incredible creativity and artistry. My favourite was the very first piece ~ I only wish that the whole piece had been shown and for longer.

Why don't you enjoy the beauty of the jewels displayed, instead of bitching about the script? It's what matters, after all.

The best jewlers are the ones in Paris, place vendome area 🤗

The jewellers from the Place Vendôme use generally white gold and a lot of expensive precious stones, but Lalique’s genius was another thing entirely. He uses few precious stones, rather semi-precious ones, or pearls, or enamel on yellow gold or bronze, but what makes Lalique’s creations so great are the beauty and originality of his designs. They are an epitome of Art Nouveau aesthetics. That's not something you would have found at Cartier or Van Cleef.

These are such lo ely pieces. It's a shame that the AI narrator doesn't know the correct pronunciation of the word BROACH. The oa is pronounced like a long o in the word go.
