Good coincidence this video! I have followed you for about seven years, because of the article “How do you fail to complete your doctoral dissertation?!” You, ma’am, were one of the most wonderful researchers I had the pleasure of seeing, but I faced harsh conditions from my relatives in our home, and hostility with the dean of my university, who insulted me at every opportunity we met. A cancerous tumor in my chest made me expect to lose my letter after a month. Despite this, I will remain a free scientific researcher, like an eagle in the sky of science and knowledge, writing for the sake of God, in order to leave something that will benefit people. I feel hope in God that I will get an opportunity from the university to complete my thesis, and that God will heal me and prolong my life.

Most of these strategies are very helpful. The problem is that I have known many brilliant PhD students that had publications before their 3rd-year PhD and they finished in 7 years. How to explain that?

Easy answer to that one, superstar. Refereeing and examination are different entities. It's easier to publish an article than complete a PhD. The focus must be on the PhD completion. The publications are crucial - but they are not the foundation of the examination. That confusion between peer review and examination is causing so many problems. Thank you so much for highlighting that! Biggest hug to you! txxx

OP are you asking that from the perspective of a 3-4 yr PhD context (eg where Tara is) or a 5-8 yr one (eg the US)? Because that's important, too. Also, publications can have multiple authors, but the PhD dissertation can only have one -- you (the documents are also MUCH longer but yeah).
