Apart from the fact that the Dreamcast version has more nuanced colors and some more visible rendering like clouds or mountains, what I especially take away from looking at this old game is that Yu Suzuki was really ahead of his time. Whether in the 80s with arcade machines that made Space Harrier, OutRun, Hang-On, After Burner, or in the 90s with machines like the Sega Model 1/2/3 up to Shenmue 1 and 2 and Virtua Fighter 4 on Naomi 2, we don't really realize it today, but it was the future, years ahead each time. By the way, OutRun is also available in the arcade for those who are in Kowloon in Shenmue 2.

Guess everyone is missing the fact the clouds are all white on the Xbox but have grey to show depth on the Dreamcast version. Very simple but an easy pick out, and the car colours too....

I really wish they would re-release outrun on xbox. I know you can't buy it because the Ferrari license ran out, but it wouldnt be too hard to change the cars to something else.

Sega Dreamcast Arcade & Xbox Arcade , both look great they Are original Arcade version , is not very easy to see the difference when the both versions look same you can't see different is hard to say 1 is better than 1

The Xbox version appears to be missing the transparencies, the image is brighter and the clouds at the start are just white. The high score screen on the Dreamcast seems to be lacking some colour, though (and there are the obvious changes to the car).

O q mais me incomoda no OutRun é o fato dos pneus nao ter efeito de movimento, a unica versão q já vi corrigindo isso é a do Mega Drive.

Se observar com mais atenção, verás que há uma animação sútil no pneu (o que indica que estão rolando), o problema é que é sútil e por isso muita gente pensa que os pneus estão parados.

It’s important to consider that it’s a game from 1986, and at that time there weren’t many talented pixel artists... hence the strange design.

Either you messing around or that is a convoluted way to unlock the Original Outrun on the Xbox classic. Also the Xbox version is a Ferrari Testarossa while the Dreamcast is some generic sports car. Also the clouds are fluffier on the Dreamcast version. But the banner at the start of the race the Outrun logo is squashed and unrecognizable. At 60fps I had to slow this down to 0.25 speed. The Dreamcast version has two toned grey shadows that look better than the Xbox version. Tough call I think the smooth scrolling background layer looks better on the Dreamcast version.

I'm glad to know that someone else was able to notice the difference between the clouds, but I hadn't noticed the difference in the banner regarding the logo and even the word 'start'... and another difference is during the gameplay, where the Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 numbers are cramped on the Xbox. There are other differences besides these, involving the car, clouds, interface, etc.

Observations: 1. The score next to the TIME is closer and much larger font on the Xbox version. 2. Wow! You gain more points quicker...much quicker on the Xbox version. 3. This was difficult even at super slow playback the LAP times may be different in pace speed. 4. The STAGE Level and Route map are very close together on the Xbox version. While the Dreamcast version they are spaced. 5. You travel much faster on the Xbox version. You reach 100km faster. 6. Radio station screen says Free Play on the Dreamcast while CREDITS8 on the Xbox. 7. The car itself is different. The Dreamcast version the engine cover is different than the Xbox version. 8. Holy Sh#%!! The traffic on the both versions have readable license plates!

It was nice of them to put this much effort into the Xbox version, considering it was tucked away as an extra in Outrun 2. As for Outrun 2, that game was perfection.

mmm neither version is arcade perfect, the Dreamcast version has an obvious recreated car and different shading system, the XBOX version lacks some shades on the clouds for example... in the end it was better to insert an official emulator instead of playing a game that was and is perfect in gameplay and graphics.

@@flaviorpg-zeiro1133 infelizmente não, apenas pelo analógico, e normalmente sou melhor jogando pelo dpad... se vc reparar na comparação que fiz do Outrun entre Dreamcast e PS2, perceberá que no Dreamcast joguei pelo analógico, enquanto que no PS2 joguei pelo Dpad.

Compared to the 360 version, the PS3 version is blurrier, has lower textures, lower LODs, and a slightly different color grading Both of these HD versions comes from an arcade port that itself is already both a port and an upgrade from an other arcade version Whereas the Xbox version you have there is the original untouched 1st arcade version which is great to use as a reference. But I think this Xbox version does not contain the tracks found on the PS360 version so you would have to use the 2006/Coast2Coast version on Xbox instead

I just noticed something. During the final part of the video with the Best Runners score list it is in the autoplay. The brake lights shine on and off. Didn't notice because you never seem to slowdown during run.

Obviously XBOX is running the Arcade code enulated and DC is a port from the Saturn reprogrammed for the Dreamcast, the same version as in Shemnue2

The Xbox version is not the arcade version, and the Dreamcast version is not the Saturn version. There are differences between the arcade and Xbox versions, and there are differences between the Saturn and Dreamcast versions.

The Xbox Outrun wins for the simple fact that it has the Ferrari license, seriously the original Arcade Outrun had the Ferrari Testarossa brand behind the car but without a license, but when Ferrari licensed the brand on Outrun 2 Sega decided to take advantage of the Ferrari license to put it in the original game on Xbox.

Yes, it didn't make sense for Sega to pay for the Ferrari license to release the classic game on the Dreamcast... but on the Xbox, since they already had the license because of Outrun 2, Sega simply took advantage of it so that the classic game could also feature Ferrari.

I'm not sure if it was on accident or not, but the Ferrari logo seems to flip on the Xbox version when the car turns left. Speaking of Ferrari, it seems like Sega didn't *pony* up for the license the year that the Dreamcast port came out. ...I'll see myself out for that one.
