The Trail Running Couple

Күн бұрын

The Outside Hope Valley Round originated on 28th March 2019, when a team of staff and suppliers from ‪@OutsideHathersage‬ and Alpkit picked a dark and cold night to run around the ridges surrounding the valley. Tired, freezing and triumphant, they decided to give the route a name and see if anyone else would like to get involved in a circuit of the stunning Hope Valley.
Fast forward to now - many have indeed got involved including us today.
Checkpoints Grid Ref

@TrailRunningCouple I saw your tattoo Gary, first time I have seen yours Cheryl. Need to work out if you have both matching legs now! 😁. I did post on your last run of the new year but I think I pressed on the next video too fast and it never got posted. I was near you at Christmas but not been feeling too well lately. Anyway, as always love the videos. I don't know how you keep motivated. That's a massive achievement in itself.👊

Yes, have matching legs 😂 I think motivation comes from each other so I guess that makes it easier than if you’re running on your own. We’re pretty lucky in that way I think. Definitely have to catch up as some point if you’re back up this end 👍

Have you guy's ever thought of doing the Lyke Wake Walk route..?(40 miles across the North York Moors).Starting at Osmotherley & finishing at Ravenscar with around 5000ft of ascent & a lot of history along the route (would be a great summer run) with The Lion Inn at around the half way point for refreshments.Although you would probably need two cars or a taxi back to Osmotherley from Ravenscar👍

Thanks for the the 2024 race calendar update both, I believe the Fellsman is its 60th edition so that should be something to savour. As for the Apocalypse, that takes place on where I do my Lakeland training in and around the Shropshire Hills, a real mix of terrain, right up your street, you should have a great time.

Thank you, yes, saw the Fellsman was the 60th edition so rather special. A good year to enter! As for the Shropshire hills - they will be a first. We have a couple of friends that like to go up the Wrekin though I don’t think it’s on this route. Was hoping it was though. Thanks again 👍
@joncadman4935
@joncadman4935 7 ай бұрын
The Wrekin is lovely but you've got some awesome hits within the Long Mynd area where the race will be, Caer Caradoc HillFort is a favourite and a great climb, nothing like Black Sail!! but it'll get the lungs working, for what its worth under foot will be a mixture of stony paths and also some very slick / wet & muddy grass areas if that helps at all👍@@TrailRunningCouple

Thanks Jon, that helps a lot. Really looking forward to it though we’ll have to make an alternative effort to visit the Wrekin and its surrounding trails 👍

Cracking route as usual, tough, and a lot of people up there! It must be murder in summer! It wasn’t as busy round there in the 60s when I lived near there 😂 You have planned a tough year ahead, but nice to see some great events planned, way beyond me these days but still love to see your videos of your adventures, well done again 👏👏

Thanks Ian. Some great trails in the Peak District, especially the Dark Peak. You’re right though, lots of people on the ridge in summer which can make running a little difficult but we all have a right to be there I guess! Need to carry a bike bell 😂 Thanks again for watching, really appreciate it along with your comments 👍

@@TrailRunningCouple spent many happy days round the Peak, cycling, running, climbing and of course walking, favourite places are the edges Froggat etc but love Kinder. Living in Burnham on Sea in Somerset don’t get up there very often, but we have Exmoor, Dartmoor , Mendips and of course Quantocks 😊😊

Kinder is a lovely place to run or hike, so many options of ascents and descents. Definitely a favourite of ours. I feel like we’re missing out as we’ve yet to run in any of the places you mention in and around Somerset. It’s lovely down there though only ever been with work.

Thanks, I need to get a quiver for my pack as I can't stand carrying them in my hand, I've only used them a few times but hoping to get into The Lap this Year. I did it May last year but talked myself into bailing out coming down Loughrigg into Ambleside. Have a few trail runs planned up until then, Snowdon and Y3P plus others.
@TrailRunningCouple
@TrailRunningCouple 7 ай бұрын
A quiver makes carrying poles so much easier, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get one ages ago! As for the Lap, it’s a great race, we’ve done it in both directions. The 3 Peaks is something we also know very well having done the route many times. It’s a great go-to route and can be used as training for pretty much any ultra. Snowdonia is also one of our favourite places, so many options there but the terrain can be very challenging! Keep up the good work and I’m sure you’ll smash The Lap 💥 🤛

When I did this in October last year the ascent out of Bradwell was diverted round the quarry as one of the fields had a sinkhole. Was that still the case when you did it? As I’m doing it again this weekend. Great video , some different sights from the summer run you did of it.
@TrailRunningCouple
@TrailRunningCouple 8 күн бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply! The route we followed was pretty much as per the GPX. I wasn’t aware of any diversions made apart from maybe the odd wrong turn!! 😂 Did you manage to do it? How was it? 👍
@3manstack
@3manstack 8 күн бұрын
@@TrailRunningCouple it was fantastic. Gorgeous weather with a nice breeze. The field with the sinkhole was actually open so that was alright. We took a few wrong turns following the gpx route but they were soon noticed. 5 hours 4 mins in total. That’s over 2 hours quicker than last time but I was only using the route map and was solo then (tons more wrong turns that time, I did 22 miles that day!! 😩)

Hi James, not as such. We washed our packs after the Goat and haven’t put the quiver back on. Many times they’re there but not used. They usually only come out for either long events or something seriously hilly. We do try and do the shorter stuff without even if it is hilly. Thanks 👍

What day did you guys take it on? I did it on the 3rd this year. Ground was annihilated and I completely misjudged my shoes which made it hard going. Legs fell off at the twitchill barns ascent and poles had to come out. that footbridge into the boggy field was underwater so I had to use the nearby lane. Really enjoyed it but tempted to run it in the other direction to be honest. The first 8 miles were an uphill grind.

We did it last Saturday, 6th Jan. glad to have seen some of the water drain in that case, sounds pretty bad when you did it! It’s a great route though, well apart from the ascent to Win Hill from Twitchill Farm - that’s tough! It’s the second time we’ve done it though couldn’t get near our time on this outing. Well done on your round 👍

Haha! We started off January with a run every day plan. We said keep the numbers sensible so we would get to the end of the month in one piece. Then we’re reminded (totally forgot) of the Ultra which still had places so booked on it last Sunday. Should be an interesting month as it’s a wonder if we even have 42 miles in our legs at the moment!! Thank you 👍
