It really baffles me why France, a western country that is one of the most "democratic" and "progressive", still systematically dislikes (or even despises) its other languages akin to old imperial powers. Like just because its constitution only recognizes "French" throughout the state, doesn't mean it has to systematically discourage and disadvantage the various Langues d'oil, Langues d'oc, Corsican, Breton, Basque, etc. It's also one of the countries that still reject the European Charter for Regional and Minority Languages. It's also outrageous if it has the same policy in its overseas "territories" (colonies) like French Polynesia, New Caledonia, and French Guiana, slowly killing their rightful indigenous languages. Italy is also like this.
